70s Disco Classics

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

If you’re joining me on Sunday, then you know this evening the LA Rams (NFC) and Cincinnati Bengals (AFC) met in California for the grand-daddy of all football games in Super Bowl LVI but if you ask me I think Maxine has it right.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sundays with this month’s special  honorary co-hostess!

The theme this week is whatever music moves you with your choice song picks!   While picking out tunes for last’s week ‘Love’ songs, YouTube began playing a track based on one I had been listening to and that’s how I discovered the 70’s Disco Classic Mix 10 playlist that I’m bringing to you this morning.  Hit play to enjoy the funky sound of yesterday and while you’re at it, get your favorite guy/gal up to boogie with you.

Song tracks: 1. The Hustle ~ Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony 2. Shake Your Booty ~KC & the Sunshine Band 3. Night Fever ~Bee Gees 4. Good Times ~Chic 5. And The Beat Goes On ~The Whispers 6. Every 1’s A Winner ~Hot Chocolate 7. Nice and Slow ~Shawn Elliott Santiago 8. Rock the Boat ~Forrest 9. That’s The Way I Like It ~KC & the Sunshine Band 10. Girls Are Always Right ~Any Trouble

THE PARTY BEGINS HERE!

This is a music linky party.  Your 4M hostess are: Marie, Stacy, Alana, and Me.  Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

4M design by Cathy Kennedy

This is CAAC signing off, please join me on Tuesday for my mid-month BOTB showdown.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. Awww on the kitty kisses. Adorable.

I agree with Maxine, but I usually do.

Love your playlist. The 70s had some great music.

Love that quote. It’s spot on.

    1. Sandee,

The 70s and the 80s really rocked. The music was super charged that got you to your feet and these days it makes me chair boogie when I’m not doing things around the house. Thanks for joining the party, my dear!

  2. Happy Galentine’s day sweet love.

Love Maxine – she sure got it right as ever!
And the last quote is indeed <3

Since I had added love songs to my 100-word fiction I hopped in too with some Parisian love.

    Huge hugs. xox

    1. Marie,

You can call me today, if you want. We did our V-Day celebrating over the weekend. 🙂 You’re not any trouble what so ever, so don’t ever think that, my friend. Thanks for dancing with me! 😉

  4. What a grand idea girlfriend! You have such marvelous ideas I must say! I’m proud to call you my musical sista for sure! You’re duh best! HUGS! Feeling so much better I can’t begin to tell you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for holding down the fort. You’re duh best! Love you so much! HUGS

  5. Disco returns and i need my sequined top and hot pants and blue eyeshadow! This was fun to listen to. Oh my did I laugh at the comic and quite agree about the toilet bowl. I heard the lineup for the mid part and it sucks since I can’t stand Rap.

    1. Birgit,

LOL, yeah blue eyeshadow! I remember wearing Cover Girl baby blue that came in a bottle that went on wet and dried. 🙂 We watched the Super Bowl but not the Half-time show. We aren’t Rap fans, either.

  6. What a selection of songs. It will take me several days to listen to all 34 tracks. I boogied to You Should be Dancing, by the Bee Gees. Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive and Heart of Glass – Blondie.but there’s a lot more good stuff here. Thank you for getting me onto the dance floor. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Alana,

I like bookmarking the long playlists to use for background music. Perhaps, this is something you’d enjoy doing, too. Thanks for dancing with me, darlin’!

  7. Happy almost Valentine’s Day, Cathy! I could care less about the Super Bowl. I loved the Disco era and the music it spawned. Some of the best dance music was from that era. Have a great day, my friend! 🥰

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

Awww, I just wanna join those two kute ‘n kuddly kitties in a smooth fest.

I’m with grouchy Maxine. A self-cleaning toilet appeals to me more these days than watching the Super Bowl. I used to be a football fanatic, but Mrs. Shady “cured” me of that and other bad habits. 🙂

I enjoyed this long block of disco classics. These are the songs I danced to in clubs during my second stint as a bachelor. At the time, I also worked as a freelance DJ doing private parties and owned a large number of these songs on 12-inch extended play platters. I even worked as a DJ in a nightclub for a short time, but it kept me up so late at night that I couldn’t perform well at my day job as a TV news producer, so I needed to quit. I noticed in this long set that there are many titles not listed in the text. I also notice that the set includes what I would call “house remixes” which is AOK because I often like those remixed versions better than the originals. “Rock The Boat” is one example I found. I also detect what I believe are re-recorded versions by the original artists and possibly some soundalike versions by session singers and musicians. Again, I don’t mind that at all. I bought several albums of soundalike disco anthems and enjoyed them very much. Kool’s “Celebration” hit reminds me again of pro football, because I used the song as a mewsic bed for a special showender on my 11 o’clock news broadcast showing game highlights after the Philadelphia Eagles won their big playoff game that year. I also like that this Studio 54 set is seamlessly mixed. It keeps you dancing because every song fades into the next with no “dead air” in between. I also notice that the mix includes edited versions of the hits, only small portions of the original studio recordings, which again is true to form for what was done in discos back then.

As I work my way through this super set, I hear several songs that are used in the soundtrack of one of my favorite movies “The Last Days Of Disco.” I have seen the film around a dozen times and never get tired of it. I also noticed the new wave disco hit “Heart Of Glass” by Blonde, a single that ushered in a fresh new sound and hip style that carried us through the 1980s. My other favorites are the more soulful disco sounds by Chic, Whispers, Hot Chocolate, Sister Sledge, Lipps Inc. To me, the greatest disco song ever is the one I just now came to – “Born To Be Alive” – by Patrick Hernandez. It was huge in the clubs where I hung out. Anita Ward’s “Ring My Bell,” a song written by then eleven-year-old Stacy Lattisaw, was also huge. “Disco Inferno” was another big big hit in clubs. The Trammps were the Philadelphia group that were originally named The Volcanos and released R&B singles played by Jerry Blavat and other Philly DJs. I am noticing that this mix also replicates an actual disco club set because the BPM rate (beats per minute) increases steadily as the set progresses. That means the last several songs are running quite a bit faster than the original recordings.”Everybody Dance” by Chic is one of the best songs used in Last Days Of Disco. I highly recommend that movie. It takes you back to to the end of the disco era. The movie’s setting is a disco nightclub inspired by the original Studio 54. Sylvester’s “Mighty Real” was HUGE. I am really getting into this disco block. The cover of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock On Wood” found at the end of this monster dance party is also in the soundtrack of Last Days Of Disco.

I thoroughly enjoyed going back to some of the most exciting years of my life when I was listening and dancing to these songs for the first time in nightclubs. I also appreciate the inspiring meme at the end of the post. Enjoy your Sunday, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back to vote in your band battle on TMT Tuesday!

    1. Tom,

DH and I are football fans. He has always enjoyed the sport and it grew on me over the years. 🙂 It’s actually a lot of fun watching the games with him. I think when I stumbled on this playlist I didn’t realize it was just snippets of popular songs from the day and you’re right there are many more great disco tunes in this set. I’m glad this music set tapped into fond memories from yesterday for you. It sounds like you had some fun in the day. The night club scene isn’t something I experienced ever. That just wasn’t my thing. I did enjoy dancing when I was in junior and high school, though. These days I just boogie around the house. Thanks for dropping by, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!
