Today illustration is a sight-seen using Disney Fandom photos to base my character from the TV series(1992-1994), Dudley.
I’m scratching my head wondering why we never watched this series. Our daughters were two and four when this showed released and I know they would’ve loved it. Anywho, Dudley is kinda like King Triton assistant. He’s the overseer of important documents which he stores inside his shell. Now, that’s gotta be cramped! lol Dudley isn’ t like other sea turtles. He doesn’t swim, instead, he walks slowly across the bottom of the ocean floor like a land turtle.
Offering two images for display one with and one without color is time-consuming. For right now, I’m going to have to stay on course to complete all drawings in pencil. It’s not that I don’t want to share a more ‘finished design’ because I really do. In fact, I thoroughly enjoy applying color to my illustrations. With that in mind, what I hope to do is at some point this month is to add the color fill illustrations to these posts. When I do, I will slip a reminder to you to notifying you to check it out. 😉 How does that sound? It’s going to be fun sprucing this drawing up with color!

awww love Dudely!
We love your Dudley, in fact we love all Dudleys. Granny has a Dudley on the back of her car because she is a slow driver…MOL 😀 Great drawings, we love the way you put the impurressions in their faces, just pawsome! More Pawkisses🐾😽💞
There were so many new cartoons back in that time frame. It’s no wonder you missed it. I did too lol But Dudley is pretty darn cute!
Poor Dudley…his name seems to suit him:)? I love the sketch and had no clue there was a tv show. He is an important character. Off to see your coloured one and, if you need to post them later, then do so if it makes it easier for you.
Love it! The detail is great. And I like what you did with the colour (in the update post).
Ronel visiting from the A-Z Challenge with Music and Writing Something Different
Ronel,
Thanks for letting me know which you prefer. I probably will continue to do separate entries like this as well as mention the update in the following day post. That way more people will get the word instead of those who subscribe to my posts. 😉
I don’t know Dudley, but I love your drawing! He looks like how I feel today… tired and moving slow.
Trudy,
I feel like Dudley on days, too. I think we all do but we keep going. 🙂
Dudley is really cute and I’m looking forward to seeing it “colored” in ..painted in… you are going to have a busy month with these illustrations.
Sandy,
I shared Dudley in living color last night around 6pm. This little character was a dandy fun drawing project for me.
Great sketch of Dudley! I enjoy seeing peoples art and drawings!
Thanks for dropping by for a visit, Morgan. I’m always delighted to show my art to others with the hope of inspiring them to believe in themselves. 🙂
I had never heard of Dudley, but then again, I am not sure I’ve seen the entire movie! It’s been on in the background while my kids watched.
Nice sketch to introduce us to him.
Lisa,
Dudley is from the TV show, not the movie, so unless your kids watched it then he’d be new to you, too. Thanks for visiting. 🙂
I don’t know Dudley either, but we never watched the TV program. Guess the kids were older by then. I can see how coloring would be time consuming! Your pencil drawings are great anyway.
Janet,
Regardless if we watched the TV show or not, we certainly enjoy the cartoon characters in this series, can’t we? Thanks for stopping by!
What a fantastic drawing, you’re really talented
Debbie
Thank you, Debbie! It’s such a pleasure to meet new friends. Heading your way next to see what’s up!
Hi Cathy! I liked this character, too. I haven’t seen more than a couple of episodes of that cartoon, so it was a new face to me. It seems endearing to see him walking slowly to do his job at the royal court.
See you tomorrow. 🙂
Ah, so you watched some of the show! That’s neat. I wished we had known about it because my girls loved The Little Mermaid. I’ll catch ya tomorrow, if not before. Be on the watch for an update later today regarding this post. 😉 TTFN
Thanks, I’ll be on the lookout. I haven’t posted mine yet, but I’ll work faster
I totally understand. Try to take it easy and don’t stress it. This is all meant to be fun. 😉
🙂
Okay, now you’re getting into characters I don’t remember because I haven’t seen the movie. Good picture nonetheless!
John,
That’s alright if you haven’t seen the movie. Dudley is from the TV show which I didn’t even know existed until I began my research. I hope you’re enjoying my art contributions despite no past connection with the film or TV series. Thanks for stopping in, I’m coming over to see you now. 😉
Dudley is an elderly sea turtle who also serves somewhat of an assistant to King Triton besides Sebastian. Dudley mumbles when he speaks and does not swim like other sea turtles in this show, instead he walks slowly along the sea floor like a land turtle and keeps important documents within his shell when he retracts his head. His conversation is always interrupted by his employer as he understands what the former is about to say. Well done.
Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Hugs and love. ♥
I’m I the only person who’s not heard of Dudley? I like him, he sounds my kinda’ turtle!
My A-Z of Children’s Stories
Keith,
How is that Dudley is your kind of turtle? Is it because he walks slow or mumbles when he talks or both? I’m sure he’s in no hurry to get where he’s going and judging by his age I’m sure he’s wiser than most, too. 🙂
Exactly that. Everyone is in so much of a hurry these days! A wise turtle indeed.
Keith,
There’s much to learn from those who’ve lived more years than us if we’d only pause long enough hear what the older generation wants to share.
Wow. That is excellent. 1979 was probably my favourite year . Gotta love the seventies. I don’t remember Dudley the turtle but he’s cute. Anyway we are all getting old aren’t we? I’ll keep in touch.
Jackie’s Bookbytes Letter D
You said my post reminds you of Puff the magic dragon and your turtle’s name reminds me of Dudley the Dragon! Lol Isn’t that amazing 🙂 ha!
Jackie,
There’s a dragon named Dudley? What a coincidence is that? lol
Jackie,
Yep, we’re all getting a bit older if we’re lucky. 😉
Dudley is super cool!
Thanks, Brian!
Good Morning young lady and how are you this morning? I’m drinking a wonderful cup of coffee and checking out your post, which is my first post of the day! Last night my leg was throbbing and I decided to go to bed early. I find that cold does better than hot and the swelling makes me very nervous so sleep was the right remedy for me. Now I decided being as it’s not so huge as last night hot coffee is the better of the two! ~hehehe! I put on a Ace bandage and we’ll see how that holds up for today! So I’m so happy you liked my “HELLO DOLLY” as my choice. Ahhhhh my friend you know me to well. I also think that your circle of friends is letting me in. I love them all and I think they’re starting to know and like me too! I’m so happy about that. You are the first that I had to win over and you’re a pushover. ~hehehehehe~ Come on now girl, you know I loves ya! Now lets see whatcha got! hmmmm gimmie some of that talent I knows ya got. Who are we showin’ me today? Awwww really??? Dudley??? I love him and you definitely did him justice. Did I tell you I have the DVD of course and the VHS tape and pictures everywhere and my granddaughters have their tails here because they THINK they’re too old for tails, but I don’t think 12 is too old do you??? My Jenessa is growing up and I hate that because she’s the last of the granddaughters, but now I have two great-granddaughters so we’ll see how long that lasts. ~sigh~ I love, love, love your Dudley (& I love turtles). Your drawing that comes from the heart is better than your camera. Thank you for sharing! BIG HUGS! Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with us! HUGS!
Marie,
I’m sorry your legs were bothering you last night but that a good night’s rest helped. Cold weather causes my legs and feet to cramp sometimes, so I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it’s affecting your legs, too. I’m delighted you liked my sketch of Dudley. He’s a sweet, old thing. Probably has seen a lot of years, knows a lot of things, and keeps stuff to himself so to not get in trouble with the King.
You’re right, I am a pushover. lol Actually, I’m so easy going and I openly accept my friends for who they are, especially if they are as nice as you. 🙂
Goodness! An underwater postie! I wonder what the documents are made of? 🙂
Sue,
Perhaps the documents are made from seaweed. 🙂
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Thursday to you, dear friend! I love turtles. Recently Mrs. Shady and I visited the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium on an island off the coast of Sarasota. It had many turtles, some small, some huge and dangerous. Signs posted on the tanks warned visitors to keep their hands away from the water because the turtles can easily bite off fingers. The facility also housed manatees, my favorite animal. When I was young, I often spotted box tortoises in my yard or down at a nearby park along a stream. Dudley is a good name for a turtle. It fits. I read that, in addition to walking slowly across the ocean floor, Dudley speaks slowly and mumbles. I read that the voice of Dudley was that of actor Lawrence Montaigne who died two years ago at age 86. I can also imagine Tim Conway voicing Dudley. As for your sketch, it is excellent, well drawn and rich in detail. It appears to capture Dudley in mid sentence (mid mumble). If you have time to colorize this one during the hectic Challenge, I’d love to see it.
Have a wonderful day, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
I began last night working on colorizing this image. I’ll be using my Prismacolors on my illustration. I was to learn how to get the rich vibrant colors from pencils if possible. I’m not ready to experiment with color markers just yet. I think that requires a bit more skill and I’m not very confident to do that now. I remembered that you liked my turtle couple from last year’s A2Z challenge. I just noticed that your comment on that post is missing. I reckon it has something to do with Google’s changes. Anywho, I will keep you posted when I share my revamped Dudley illustration. Thanks for visiting this morning, dear friend!
