Monday's Music Moves Me

Wendy Moten

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

This week on Monday’s Music Moves Me there isn’t a music prompt.  We’re boogieing to whatever music moves you.  Let’s get this party started!

One of our favorite reality shows is The Voice.  I thought I’d have the chance before now to share one of my favorite artists from Team Blake from season 21, the year before last, but you know how hectic things were for me.  Anywho, I’m here to do that.

Meet Wendy Moten!

Wendy already had a music career as a long-time backup singer for these well known artists, Vince Gill, Julio Iglesias, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill.  It was obvious in the blinds she wasn’t a newbie or a wannabe singer, but the real deal.  Moten didn’t win but she was the runner-up. This gal can sing any genre and blow the socks off of you doing it.

I borrowed three of Wendy’s YouTube album playlists to introduce her amazing vocal talents. I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll totally dig. Just click play to let the music flow to your soul!

Matter of Fact album playlist
Life’s What You Make It album playlist
I’ve Got You Covered album playlist

This is a music linky party.  The co-hostess are listed under the 4M banner in my sidebar menu.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

4M design by Cathy Kennedy

I will be back mid-week but instead of my vacation photo and memories series, I’m sharing my last James Bond Theme Song BOTB and you’re invited to cast your vote for your favorite cover artist! This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

I love Wendy’s smooth, honey glazed voice. Oh! It seems I have missed a whole lot of your vacy posts. Will try and catch up.

Thanks for hosting sweetheart, it adds spring to my feet. After all someone rightly said, “If music be the food for love, play on…”

Kindness is my forever goal and Word of the Year and your posts are a lovely reminder of the same.

    Hugs and Kisses.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Natasha,

Kindness is a good forever goal. I think we all need to practice showing more kindness especially when our personal world is topped upside down. If one can do that, then the impossible seems possible. 🙂

It’s taking me a while to make the rounds this week but I’m trying to catch up today (puff puff). Interesting how a singer’s albums can differ in style. I was not crazy about the songs on Matter of Fact but Life is What You Make It was a different story – very enjoyable. She does have an excellent voice. Speaking of voices, the only talent show I watch is America’s Got Talent – I like the variety show aspect of it. Alana ramblinwitham

      Alana,

I’m running behind as well, so don’t worry about it. We watch AGT, but haven’t started the current season yet. We finally finished the last season of The Voice the other night. I’m glad one of Wendy’s album was a good suit for your ears. Have a boogietastic weekend, my dear!

What a beautiful voice Wendy has, and the way she purrformed the Talking Heads is amazing! Great found my furriend😸Double Pawkisses from us for a Happy Tuesday. Oh and that cute little pussycat with the ducky is to awwww🐾😽💞

  • Iris Flavia

We have, and it is really called as stupid like that, “The Voice of Germany”.
The show is so bad I cannot watch it.
We also have “Germany´s next Top Model” with that noisy Heidi Klum, a pain to only see the ads!
We used to have fun shows. Either I am too old or they all really went down the drain – glad you can enjoy yours 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Iris,

Heidi Klum hosted The Next Top Model here in the states and we never watched it. That just didn’t appeal to us but we do like Heidi. She’s a hostess on America’s Got Talent. To us, Heidi seems like a nice, sweet person. Her voice sounds so chirpier and at times quite innocent. It’s because of Heidi that we continue to watch AGT. 🙂 Simon and Howie are fun but not as fun as Heidi. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

    Hello sweet-pea
Big error- posted my link as Word of the Year 2021 – of course it should be 2023. My bad. If you could help repost.

So glad to be back. Been on a longish hiatus, traveling most of January.

And can you believe it you write about throwing Kindness like confetti and that’s my go to word. And my quote for the year 2023. 🙂

Sending you loving vibes and loads of cheer, sweety.

    Big hugs.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Natasha,

Long blogging hiatus are sometimes needed. I’m happy that you’re back. Maybe, we’ll both find our way again to a good blogging routine in this new year. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor and don’t worry about a thing, I fixed your post title to reflect properly on the linky. 😉

  • Debbie D.

Hi Cathy, we enjoy the level of talent on The Voice, but the judges get kind of silly and annoying, at times. 😛 Wendy Moten could have easily won – she’s such an amazing vocalist! Thanks for showcasing her.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

I think the judges being silly is part of the fun. I believe it’s a little bit of an act but mostly them just being goofy. I always liked how Blake and Adam went at each other. Then, there was Kelly and Blake butting heads. I suspect Blake won’t be on the show much longer, though. He dropped a hint this season making me think it’s possible that he’ll step down. Oh well…that’s the way things go, though. Thanks for visiting, my dear!

  • Brian

That is some voice. They do have a lot of talent on that show, I just can’t stand the judges, with their egos they need bigger chairs.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

The judges make the show fun. I think Blake is super silly but honestly I believe he knows this and it’s part of the show’s appeal. The judges’ egos used to bother me a bit but I soon learned to look past their flaws to see the better side of their personalities. It’s then I was able to connect with them better. 🙂

  • csuhpat1

Very nice. I had never heard her music. I will admit I have never watched The Voice. After listening to her music, I like the way that she sounds. Thanks for hipping me to her.

  • Sandee

Awww on the kitty protecting the chick. Adorable.

I love Wendy. What great videos.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

The kitty and chick picture is sweet, isn’t it? Wendy’s albums I put up really shows her talent. I love that she can sing just about anything and do it well.

  • DrillerAA

The Voice is one show my wife and I do watch and Wendy was an early favorite. As you mentioned, she obviously had more true professional and recording experience than the other contestants. For me, “Matter of Fact” has a little Michael Jackson vibe to it. I do like her take on country music. She is a truly gifted vocalist and I can see why she was a busy back up singer. Now it’s time to let her light shine.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Wendy’s “Matter of Fact” does have a MJ feel to it. A matter of fact, see what I did there?, one of the backup singers made a sound similar, “WOW” or “Ooo” to Michael 48 seconds into the song. The tempo, pop vibe, and the backup singers really pulls your mind to wondering if MJ had something to do with this song. It’s possible. Wendy released this song in 1992. Now, I’m really curious to know. 🙂 I agree, now it’s her time to shine and I hope she rises to the top of the business!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

Awww…. I just wanna smooch those little critters – the cuddling peep and kitten! They set an example for people. Just because we’re different doesn’t mean we need to fight like cats and dogs. We can help, support and love one another. It can be done if we try hard enough.

Before I discuss your moving Monday music, I want to report that I shared your recipe for Polly’s blueberry pancakes with Mrs. Shady, and last night she made us breakfast for dinner, with those pancakes as the feature attraction along with scrambled eggs, hash brown potatoes and sausage links. All three of us agreed that the hotcakes were delicious. I think they truly are the best I ever tasted. Thank you very much for sharing that recipe with us!

We don’t watch any of those TV singing or dancing talent shows, and therefore Memphis R&B/Soul singer Wendy Moten is brand new to my eyes and ears. WOW, I am very happy to encounter this fine artist. When the first song, “What’s The Matter,” started playing, I thought you accidentally posted a Whitney Houston recording. I see that this self-titled debut album was released in 1992, and that explains why the arrangements sound so much like the Whitney period. Song #2, “Nobody But You,” reminds me a lot of Janet Jackson, another major artist in the early 90s. “So Close To Love” is a performance video that gives me a good look at Wendy in action. The song reminds me of Whitney’s “The Greatest Love Of All.” Wendy is a huge talent. I can understand why those major country acts rely on her to add gospel soul to their recordings and live performances. “Come In Out Of The Rain” is Wendy’s biggest crossover hit to date. released as a single from that 1992 album. The song climbed halfway up the pop chart. Released in 1994 in Europe, it made the top 10 in the UK. I’m happy to read that the critic quoted in the article agrees with me and draws a comparison to Whitney Houston on that soul ballad. “Make This Love Last” might be my favorite song of all. It has that high energy Janet Jackson arrangement, and simply wonderful lead vocals by Wendy, with The Ridgeway Sisters on backing vocals. Yessum, “Make This Love Last” is definitely my favorite among many great songs on this album! “Magic Touch” sounds like Whitney Houston singing a Janet Jackson song. It’s another fantastic song!

Wendy’s second album, Life’s What You Make It, is not wall-to-wall greatness like her debut album, but I appreciated her imaginative arrangement on the cover of “People Got To Be Free,” the 1968 hit by The Rascals. “Stone Jumping” is also a very cool song with strong, dramatic lyrics and a power-packed arrangement.

Released in 2020, I’ve Got You Covered is Wendy’s most recent album and has her sounding like the great female country artists of the boomer years, Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynette. With a vocal style reminding me so much of those ladies, plus the retro arrangement, “Don’t Touch Me (If You Don’t Love Me)” sounds like it was recorded in the 60s. Wendy also nails the cover of Bobbie Gentry’s big 1967 hit “Ode To Billie Joe,” with the name spelled “Billy Joe” on Wendy’s version. I would have to say that Wendy gave us another classic rendition of that great country story song. “Walk Through This World With Me” is a beautiful country ballad. “Each Season Changes You,” featuring group vocals, is delightful, a fun song.

You did it again, Cathy. You introduced another outstanding artist on 4M Monday, and I thank you for turning me on to the versatile and talented Wendy Moten. That first album of hers is a smash, and I can’t understand why her record label dropped her. When they dropped Wendy… they dropped the ball.

I’ll be over to see you Wednesday to vote in your final Bond battle. For your information and planning purposes, I’ll have a new post starting tomorrow morning at Shady’s Place for a 6-day run. Thank you and have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    ..

    • Cathy Kennedy

Tom or should I just call you the “Early Bird”? Thanks for visiting bright and early on this not-so-sunny Monday morning. We’re under rain clouds today, so Mr. Blue Sky won’t be around. Boo-Hoo-Hoo! I’m ecstatic to read that Mrs. Shady fixed Polly’s Cornmeal Blueberry Pancakes AND that you LOVED them! You put a smile on my face and in my heart with that share. Now, I want pancakes! I’m doubly delighted that you enjoyed Wendy Molten. She’s the real deal capable of singing various genres with her personal style. I don’t understand why Wendy’s record label dropped her, either. She’s such a talent. I can’t wait to see what new songs she puts out. I’m glad to see you here today, my friend. I’ll be swinging by your place tomorrow morning. Have a boogietastic week!
