Born Peter Charles Green is an English pop artist from the 60s and 70s who is better known under his stage name Daniel Boone, not the great frontiersman, but US one-hot wonder of the 1972 song “Beautiful Sunday”. Recently, my curiosity was peaked thanks once again to Tom from SPMM.
Someone on YouTube set up a Daniel Boone channel with the above playlist I shared. The author wrote this about Boone’s one-hit wonder, Beautiful Sunday.
The song was written by Boone and Rod McQueen and sold over 2,000,000 copies worldwide. It peaked at #15 on The Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at the end of the summer of 1972, having already reached #21 on the UK Singles Chart earlier during that same year. In 1972, Boone was the recipient of the “Most Likeable Singer” award from Rolling Stone magazine.
For those who remember the ’72 hit song, Beautiful Sunday, I invite you sample The Best of Daniel Boone!
Ole Pet had a few associated acts. He’s recorded under the names Peter Lee Stirling, The Beachcombers (later becoming The Bruisers of Tommy Bruce & the Bruisers), studio band “Hungry Wolf” which later became Rumplestiltskin, and Daniel Boone’s Boogie Band. I must confess, perhaps you will too that most these bands do not ring a bell. I
Maybe my friends across the pond know the singer, Daniel Boone better than us yanks and perhaps you would’t mind enlightening us on some of your favorite Boone songs or maybe some of you my North American music enthusiasts have a say so on Boone’s music. Whoever you are and where you live, please chime in if you want regarding Boone and any of his associated music acts.
Thanks for including me in your day. This music post is strictly for your enjoyment. I get carried away asking questions, so don’t feel pressed to answer them and you don’t even have to leave a comment but if you want to let me know you stopped by then click the “Like” button. On his friend’s head playing Daniel Boone – heeheehee! The real Daniel Boone hated coonskin caps and never wore one, but that’s very funny.
Thanks for the fun info about this singer, it sounds like he had a steady career even if he never became hugely famous.
Mimi,
I think DH had a coon skin hat when he was a little boy. I think I have a picture of DS wearing his daddy’s Daniel Boone costume. 🙂
I didn’t remember the song until I put it on. He definitely had that early ’70’s feel…
John,
I figured you would know the artist. I appreciate you stopping by to listen to my music set on Saturday!
Dang, I didn’t know that there was another Daniel Boone!
Brian,
Yeah, I didn’t know, either. This one was more into the music exploration instead of the great frontier. 🙂
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Songsuasion Saturday to you, dear friend!
Thanks for mentioning your friend Tom and SPMM, dearie. It makes me happy to know that you enjoy browsing my archives for song and artist inspiration. Regarding Daniel Boone, when I recently I posted “Beautiful Sunday” in Mona Wu’s show, I merely searched for the YouTube video containing the best quality sound for that one hit song. I didn’t do any other digging, and therefore am not familiar with any of his other recorded works, so I am in for a treat and an education this morning here at CAAC. I never knew that Rolling Stone has a “Most Likable Singer” award category. If there were a “Most Likable Friend” award, you, my dear, would stand a good chance to winning it week after week.
I am not familiar with any of the other bands associated with artist Peter Charles Green who apparently was most successful releasing records as Daniel Boone. As I begin listening to his song set, I immediately recognize “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast” as the song Wayne Newton famously recorded in 1972, a #1 charting hit for the Vegas crooner and the title song of his 1972 album. “Sky Diver” is a clever, bouncy, toe-tapping song with an interesting touch of cello. As I listen to “Hello Hello,” I am reminded how popular this style of song was, especially in the UK, in the early 70s. Many glam rock acts arose and performed on Top Of The Pops and other British and Euro TV mewsic shows singing light pop rock songs with catchy words and melody on the chorus. Daniel Boone’s “Alright Now” seems to borrow heavily from the refrain of “Fox On The Run,” the 1974 hit by the British band Sweet. It was around this same time that ABBA became a worldwide sensation and influence to many other artists. To my ears, “Sunshine Lover” sounds like the kind of song that ABBA might have written and recorded. I checked through your second block of Boone songs and found the re-recorded version of “Beautiful Sunday.” It’s very close to the original and an equally pleasant ditty.
I’m Songsuaded by this Daniel Boone block party, and I got a kick out of your bonus Friday Sillies cartoon, ideal for your mewsical tribute. The topic of tamale’s 4M Monday on Sunday looks interesting. I’ll try to stop in, but Mrs. Shady wants us to hit the road early and take a daycation somewhere. I’ll do my best to be here.
Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
It’s fun just to discover what an artist has done and by featuring them on my blog allows me to spend time researching a musicians discography that I may other wise not have had it not been for an introduction at your blog or someone else. It gives my brain a little exercise to dabble in something new. I like how you’re able to pick similarities in songs with others and I glad that you share that with me. I don’t always hear it but when I do, I’m usually stumped. Thanks for making me apart of your weekend, my friend!
