You gotta love the humor in this cartoon. Do you think this is what’s needed to show our youth how ridiculous they look?

The verdict is in, the John Frieda foam hair dye DIDN’T wash the gray out of my hair. Oh, nutty-fudge sticks!  Here are the results.

Oops, my before image vanished off the net when I changed blog platforms for some strange reason but  not the after picture.

The good news is it didn’t make my hair as red as the other hair dyes I’ve tried in the past.  Looking at the side by side comparison it seems there is very little color change, but my hair is definitely redder.  The gray is still there, but the color seems to have given my hair a bit of sheen.  Do you color your hair at home? If so, would you care to share any tips with me? Should I consider coloring my hair and then adding highlights to camouflage the gray more?

Sunday, we took a broken chain and our son’s class ring to be re-sized to our regular jeweler, while there. we also inquired about getting a simple engraving done on the inside of our son’s ring.  We were told it could be done. We had no worries, no questions, no second thoughts, no nothing.  The repair jobs would be done by 4pm Monday.

Late Monday afternoon I decided to call ahead to see if our jewelry was ready for pickup and it was.  My DH made stopped on the way home from work to learn…

  1. The work wasn’t finished. He waited.
  2. The person in charge of engraving didn’t get everything inside, as instructed.
  3. Two more attempts to engrave while DH waited failed.
  4. An informed ring resized.
  5. Instructions for a simple chain repair were not followed. Do-over in the process. Pick up another day.
  6. Goof up resulted in no charge to us, but gave us a headache instead.

If that isn’t enough to make your head swim, my DH gives our son his ring to find it had not been re-sized or at least not much, if any.  The ring was to be taken down half a size.  This would mean it should fit snug enough to where he had to wiggle it over his knuckle.  Instead, it slid off effortlessly.  Woe unto us, jeweler blunders and another special trip to see if we can get it right next time!

I consider myself brilliantly genius in my mind but the other day I did something totally ignorant.  No, ignorant would imply I didn’t know any better.  I did something incredibly stupid! That’s right – STUPID!! While loading the dishwasher, I placed two plastic candy molds inside.  I slightly hesitated thinking, “I wonder if these are okay to put in the dishwasher?” I shrugged it off. I mean, what’s the worse that can happen anyhow, right?

Lesson learned: Always listen to your quiet inner voice that questions your action.  There usually is a good reason for your hesitation. I found my two perfectly good candy molds warped and unusable. Yeah, like you didn’t see that one coming, huh? I gasped in semi-horror.

Here are a few things to consider, should you think about doing something stupid, like me. Be prepared to:

  • Slap yourself in the forehead.
  • Look for someone easy to blame (I was all out of people to point a finger at).
  • Quickly discard your blunder before someone discovers you’re capable of doing such a numb skull thing.

What did I do? To add injury to self-humiliation, I said out loud where anyone could hear me, “Aah, drats I melted my candy molds in the dishwasher.” Did my husband laugh at me? Were his words harsh or unkind? Nope, nope, nope! His reaction was, “Don’t worry, I’ll buy my little sweetheart some more.” Isn’t that the most precious thing you’ve heard?

Speaking of my DH, we spotted a new ice cream shop open in town while running errands on Sunday afternoon called Scoop’d.  The store front is nice and cheery. They even have a large seating inside. The good news is won’t develop claustrophobia there while ordering your ice cream unlike at Marble Slab Creamery.

The neat thing about Scoop’d is the name of their ice creams, really cool! I mean, you can’t find these flavors anywhere in town that I know of.  So, that’s unique. I tried the Kona Chocolate Cookie Fudge and Blueberry. Austin, our DS, got a scoop of Blueberry Cheesecake. Robin, my DH, didn’t have any other than a few bites of mine.

It would be great to say our trip had a happy ever after ending but it didn’t. Scoop’d ice cream wasn’t high-grade quality and it needed more dairy fat to give the ice cream that extra taste bud pleasing va-va-voom. Plus it had a lot of air whipped in making the ice cream too soft and on a hot day, you may as well get a milkshake before walking out with a cone of this stuff.

Recently, we got ice cream at Hilton Head Ice Cream. It had been years since we’ve been there.  They make their ice cream locally, as well and is better than Scoop’d, in my opinion. If you visit Hilton Head Ice Cream, then check out their Birthday Cake flavor. Mmm, so good and ooh, so pretty!

This is the last week of September reminds me of….

Green Day “Wake Me Up When September Ends”

We can all relate how summer innocence is lost. This was my initial interruption of the song.  Some folks thought it was written as a tribute to the events of 9/11 and certainly, we can see the loose connection of the songwriter’s words. However, according to wikipedia.com, Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song as a memorial to his father who passed away from esophageal cancer on September 10, 1982.

Wake me when September ends so October can whisper her secrets in my ear.

Eric Whitacre “October”
