Hop over to see Sandee for more Awww Mondays fun-spiration!

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! It’s fabulous to see you! Are you ready to groove to some mewsic?  It’s the second week of December and this month our theme is ‘All Things Christmas‘.  Being the kind of gal that I am always trying to think of a theme within a theme.  Today feature mewsic comprises of food inspired tunes.  The list is extensive and you’re welcome to listen to it without any interruption or skip around.

Many of the songs in my playlist need no explanation but for some you may not recall the specific food the song reference.  I know I wouldn’t have thought of the songs had I not had Google’s help. I’ll list the song in order of my playlist with a brief description.

  1. It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas   …with candy canes and silver lanes aglow
  2. Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer She’d been drinking too much eggnog
  3. The Wassail Song   I had no clue what this song was refering to until I read one Google source mentioned that wassail is spiced cider (my recipe).
  4. A Marshmallow World   Have you ever made home-made marshmallows? It’s really quite simple and yummy. Check out my Peppermint Marshmallow recipe!
  5. Christmas Cookies   I love to bake at Christmas! My favorite cookies to make are sugar (various shapes), gingerbread (boys, girls, and houses, and shortbread.
  6. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on An Open Fire)  Years ago, I tried roasting chestnuts in the oven.  I can’t remember how that turned out but I love the idea of roasting chestnuts
  7. Let It Snowbrought some corn for popping
  8. We Wish You A Merry Christmas  bring us some figgy pudding. Have you ever eaten figgy pudding?  I have not but Chowhound suggested this recipe.
  9. Over the River and Through the Woods Hurrah for fun; the pudding’s done, Hurrah for pumpkin pieTraditionally we do not have pumpkin pie for Christmas.  I tend to associate the song and dessert with Thanksgiving but I know many think of Christmas.
  10. The 12 Days of Christmas you need to think a little out of the box the lyrics refer to a partridge in a pear tree (Partridge with Pear recipe), two turtle doves (9 Mouthwatering Dove recipes), three French Hens (Cornish Hen recipe), four Colly birds (blackbirds, recipe for Blackbird Pie), six geese-a-laying (How to Roast a Goose and Goose Egg Custard), eight maids-a-milking (milk…Eggnog or My Boiled Custard recipe)
  11. You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch lyrics refer to Mr. Grinch as a bad banana and garlic in his soul.  When the kids were home I kept bananas on hand.  DH is allergic to them so I don’t buy them often anymore.  However, whenever my bananas went bad, I made Banana Nut Bread. 🙂  I haven’t made Chex Party Mix for Christmas and that recipe calls for garlic powder.
  12. (There’s No Place Like)Home For the Holiday …I met a man who lives in Tennessee, and he was headin’ for Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie. Again, another song mentioning a dessert I commonly link to Thanksgiving.  I may as well share my recipe with you.
  13. Holly Jolly Christmas  …a cup of cheer.  I always thought a cup of cheer meant an alcoholic drink and while some of these drinks (5 Classic Holiday Drinks ) do have alcohol they certain can be enjoyed virgin style.
  14. Christmas in Hollis I don’t like rap mewsic but this song is an exception and is actually quite fun.  The song clearly mentions Mom’s cooking chicken and collard greens, Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheeseThis definitely sounds like some good eats to me.  I can chicken just about any time of the year, especially if it’s fried. 🙂  I’ll pass on the collard greens, though.  That’s one green vegetable that always tastes too bitter for my taste buds.
  15. Sleigh Ride This song mentions…The chestnuts pop; Pop! Pop! Pop and When they pass around the coffee And the pumpkin pie.   What’s not to like about hot coffee and pie?  Sounds like the purrrfect combination to end a meal with, eh?  Of course, I always like making homemade Peppermint Lattes at Christmas.
  16. Nutcracker Suite I went uptempo on Tchaikovsky Christmas classic.  The song itself represents may flavors of the holiday – chocolate, coffee, tea, candy canes, marzipan, and ginger.  However, the one thing that always comes to mind when you think of The Nutcracker are the Sugarplums.  While I have not made this recipe, it’s certainly worth a try.  I’d have to leave out the honey since DH is sensitive to it.  Once many years ago I found a truffle recipe referred to as sugarplums.  I made it and it was good but the truffles weren’t quite as firm as store-bought ones.
  17. We Need A Little Christmas  The season wouldn’t be complete without …Slice up the fruitcake… as mentioned in this song.  In years past I’ve made home-made fruitcake and we always buy a Benson’s fruitcake but what I really enjoy making is home-made stollen. Basically, it’s a german pastry that’s kinda like a fruitcake.  Overall I like a stollen better than a fruitcake but I won’t pass on a good fruitcake.

Please join my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), Stacy,  Alana, Colette (taking semi-blog hiatus due to eye issues), and little ole me onto the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts) below.

It’s time to tell announce the winner of Julie London ‘Warm in December’ #BoTB Showdown with Clare Teal & Seth MacFarlane.  Everyone seemed to enjoy both contenders’ cover but it was Clare who stole the show and knocking good ole Seth off center stage with a 9 to 3 victory!

Here’s another song from Clare’s 2013 Christmas album, That’s What I Want For Christmas!

DH & I are taking a bit of staycation.  Blogging life will resume later in the week and while I’ve tried touching base in Blogosphere while away, I haven’t had near the opportunities.  I’d like to say we’ve been having big ole time but we found ourselves in need of a new car just before our vacation started. We got one thank the good Lord and I share spill the details of this craziness next week. Meanwhile, keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.

McGuffy’s Reader is the brain-child behind “SPARKS” inspiration. Have a sparkletastic day! 😉
