We’ve entered the second month of the new year. Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. The eyes of the nation is expected to be on Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania as its most famous resident predicts the weather outcome for the next six weeks. Can we expect more wintry weather or will we have an early spring? We shall have to wait to see.

This tradition at Gobbler’s Knob has been a fun favorite over the years and with the 1993 release of Groundhog Day the popularity for that little corner of PA exploded. Last year, we watched the celebration and prediction air. Even with the pandemic, they found away around it to keep folks interest in their tiny hamlet and Phil. It looked like a lot of fun and if it weren’t for the fact that it’s so darn cold and possibly snowy in Punxsutawney then I’d love to take part in the festivities. However, the realization is to travel that distance and to be in misery, then the idea grows less appealing.

I thought it would be great fun to build a playlist of the songs used in the movie for my top ten picks but it appears there are only 8 song titles and since I ran short I then decided to share the soundtrack at the very end. Click play to enjoy while you continue reading. 😉

Song titles source credit

A few of the songs listed on the playlist like tracks 4 and 6 slip my memory and I can’t place the movie scene with the exception of 6 possibly where McDowell and Murray are dining. The source credit says these were a part of the film and other websites also reference the same ones, so I guess they did and I have no reason to doubt the source.

We can’t have a Tickle Me Tuesday segment without some funnies, so how about a little Groundhog Day humor?

“At a girl, Maxine!”
Dirty Harry ain’t gonna take any chances.
This is just too cute and so true.
That’s fine by me, Phil. Stay in your burrow until next year.

In a recent previous post, I shared my responses to last week’s Tuesday 4 questions. Today, I remembered to include this segment. Annie is taking us “Back to School” with today’s set.

 1. You are back in high school… what are you doing after school lately? If I’m back in school in rural West Virginia like I was the first time around then there is little to do. Forget hanging at the mall or going to a movie. That requires a long drive. I’d say I’d be doing close to what I did 40 years ago, either watch a little afternoon TV or hang at a girlfriend’s house nearby but only if I had my assigned chores done first.
 2. Do you do homework early or late? Do you really study? I would tackle my homework straight away, so I can enjoy the rest of my afternoon. Oh sure I studied and studied because assuming my brain works like it did eons ago I will need all the time in the world to cram testing material into my noggin’. A lot of good it’ll do as I’m sure history would repeat itself with my brain freezing up causing me to get barely passing grades. Or, maybe not….if I have the self confidence that I have now doing my studies then I might actually be an honor student. 🙂
 3. a. Do you go to the games? Football? Basketball.. what is your favorite to attend? b. Do you go to the dances? Prom? (what’d you wear?) a. If I were in school today in the same rural community of WV, the school I attended 40-years ago has since merged with another making it one of those super schools for the area. This means I would be able to attend games a little easier, especially those at home. Assuming once again, my preferences for now played into the picture then I’d most certainly would go to the football games. b. Absolutely, I’d go to my school dance or prom. As boring as any of them are, it’s still a part of the whole school experience and shouldn’t be missed. Assuming I could get away with what I wanted to wear, then I’d probably would wear a pretty sparkly short dress with a cut out back.
 4. Lunch! What are we having today? What is your favorite lunch? These questions are difficult for me to answer because the things most people were privy to do in the school years didn’t apply to me because of my location. In high school, I usually kept lunch very simple and I’m sure even today I’d do the same thing. I’d probably grab a soda and a package of snack crackers or chips from the vending machine. I suppose my favorite lunch would be either burgers & fries or pizza. That sounds petty good to me.

In southern West Virginia where I grew up today there’s a tiny bit more for kids to do but it’s nothing like what kids in Knoxville or surrounding communities have within a few minutes drive. Not to mention kids who have a drivers license has their own car or access to mom or dads around here. Despite not having these things growing up, I survived those years somehow. 🙂

Just a reminder, kiddies, earlier this morning my latest James Bond theme song “A View To A Kill BOTB showdown” published. If yo have a few minutes to spare, I hope you’ll click over to cast your vote for your favorite cover artist. This is CAAC signing off coming up next is the linky party where just about anything goes with Wild Wednesdays ! 😉

I think it was 2014 I stumbled on Broken Bells “October” for a BOTB showdown. I liked the band so much that I did feature of the group on the 4M dance floor. Stumbling across the tune again reminded me how much I liked it so I decided to use it again. 😉 I hope you enjoyed my Five4Friday playlist inspired by the new month with five ‘October’ song titles, most of which are new-to-me. Who here, other than me thinks this week zipped by? I’m still in a brain fog that it’s now October.

Before I forget, I want to point out much earlier this morning, I shared a new installment in my James Bond Theme song BOTB series. I hope you’ll click this link to cast your vote for your favorite artist. Not wanting to cause too much confusion, I rolled together a whole bunch of goodness into one post from funnies to fill-ins all in the name of friendship, right? Are you ready for some grins and giggles? Howdy-hi, folks! I actually knew a cat like the one pictured above. She was really a nasty furball and only kind to one of her human pets. The other she was a bit indifferent toward depending on her mood. Just a wee reminder, I restructured Fridays content by splitting Friday Fun Stuff into two posts. You’ll still find 4F (Feline, Fill-ins, Friendship Friday) content in Friday Fun Stuff installments but I moved the Friday Funnies (previously Friday Sillies) into its own spot and will publish right after this every other week. On DH’s Fridays off, I will share Five for Friday song picks. This change is an adjustment I’m struggling with and I don’t 100% if it’s going to work yet but I sure do appreciate your patience putting up with my squirreliness.

From Mt. Mitchell clouds part long enough to catch a glimpse of the Blue Ridge Mountain range and valley, a condition that’s quite common. The temperature was 25º cooler standing in the parking lot than in Knoxville on this day. Photo enthusiasts consider joining Yogi’s Den (Alan) for Skywatch Friday.

Ellen at 15andMeowing and Lorraine at Four-Legged Furballs share each Thursday four blank statements to copy and paste to create an entry for their Friday Friendly Fill-ins. I’m rounding things out by including my filling in the blanks with my responses.

1. Is it wrong to dance naked in the rain? Okay, that might not be wrong but seriously am I going to do it? Nope. I’m just being completely silly this morning, as you probably figured out. After all, it’s Friday. 🙂

2. I wish I had kept my daily happenings and thoughts in a journal to have a record to look back through time to read what was going onThis is one of those regrets and yet I struggle with starting this. It’s never too late, I suppose but I still just can’t get into it.

3. Life with DH is my idea of living happily ever after.

4. It’s been a long time since I made home-made donuts and this is something I hope to change soon!

I apologize for publishing this later than usual but I totally forgot to do my Friendly Fill-in section until this morning. Look for my Friday Funnies coming up next! Have a funtastic Friday, dear friends!

Feline Friday Sandee @Comedy Plus

I’ve restructured how I’m doing things on Fridays. I decided to split my Friday Funnies (formerly Friday Sillies) into its own spot which will publish right after this post every other week. On DH’s Fridays off, I will share my Five for Friday picks.

Ellen at 15andMeowing and Lorraine at Four-Legged Furballs share each Thursday four blank statements to copy and paste to create an entry for their Friday Friendly Fill-ins. I’m rounding things out by including my filling in the blanks with my responses.

1. DH is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Seriously, DH is a lot of fun. He’s not silly like a barrel of monkey…well, he can be sometimes but he’s mostly just a fun person to hang out with.

2. One should take time to eat dessert every day. Really it’s a good idea to have a little somethings sweet every day so that you won’t do something stupid like binge eat a whole bag of cookies or something equally dumb.

3. I hesitate to somewhat eat desserts because I hate scaling back on other yummy foods and I hate having to work extra hard to burn those calories. The real thing is keep everything in moderation. I learned a long time ago, it’s best to not deny my sweet tooth for fear that I’d binge another time which isn’t a good thing to do.

4. Is it time for me to take another blog hiatus yet? While on my so-called “semi-hiatus” this summer, I stayed very busy working on future posts to make life a little easier for my return and I did other related bloggy stuff. I never really felt like I was taking a break. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it is nice to time completely away from the norm.

Sharing with Friendship Friday Ramona @Create with Joy

This week for Friendship Friday, I want to share with you. One of the things I got started doing over the summer was to convert old handwritten recipes into digital format with the hope of making my job easier to find a recipe I usually have trouble finding when I need it and the ability to share it quicker with friends. One recipe I had forgotten about and haven’t made in years is Guacamole Dip. It’s quite simple and yummy. Now, I’m passing it on to you.

Have a funtastic Friday, dear friends! X💋X💋, Cathy

In case you missed the news, I deleted my Twitter account. I appreciate those of you who followed me over the years there but honestly I never liked the platform and in recent years it has gotten pretty ugly. I never experienced the back lashing from others but there’s way too much negativity brewing and my views don’t line with the company’s. What really did it for me is the aggressive targeting to block conservatives. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m taking the necessary steps to severe ties with other social platforms that I do not find beneficial who are equally as bad as twitter. Trust this when I say you and I may differ in our beliefs – political, spiritual, lifestyle. You and I can like one another regardless. You and I have a bond, a friendship I enjoy. You, I will not disconnect from!

Okay, nuff said on this subject. Let’s move on. Yesterday on the 4M dance floor, I introduced to you The Star Sisters with an Andrew Sisters Medley. I really enjoy when modern artists mimic sounds from the past. They do a beautiful job and have great voices. I don’t know why I’ve not heard of them before Mr. Shady’s shared them with me but I’m glad that he did. I hope you enjoy the ear/eye candy of The Star Sisters!

Song tracks:

 1. He’s the One I Love
 2. Are You Ready For My Love,
 3. The Duke of Dance
 4. Tribute to Marilyn Monroe
 5. Godzilla (Love Theme)

Recently DD#1 sent a picture of our LA playing hide n’ seek that made me smile and tickle my heart. Kids are so precious!

I remember our kids doing the same thing. 🙂

If that doesn’t make me smile then I don’t know what would?

I’m not sure if Tuesday 4 is continuing into the new year. I looked for the questions but there were none to borrow, so if this segment is blank by the time you read it then one of two things has happened. I’m working on them or there aren’t any to answer. 😉

Okay, I’m subbing today’s Tuesday 4s for Sunday Stealing.

1. What are your plans for January? To get the Christmas decoration taken down and put away, kick start my exercise routine, and to get a few necessary chores done that got put off during the holiday season.

2. What do you want to see happen in 2021? Like most of you, I’d like to see this pandemic go away. Mostly I’d like for people to open their eyes to the truth around them and how everything we love about this country is slipping from our grasp.

3. What would you give a 5 star rating? I’m cheating here as I read someone’s response but it certain the best to receive a 5-star rating GOD. He never changes. The only constant in my life and the world will ever know.

4. Do you have writing goals for 2021? In a way, yes. I hope to continue massaging my writing skills using Q&A sessions like this, use various meme prompts to pull a memory out of hiding to incorporate into my post, and to join Kat’s Writing Shop on Thursdays.

5. How do you feel about memoirs? Mine? I’m at the point to where I want to write more about the things I remember to share with my kids and grand kids someday. No one is asking anything now but there may come day when they are interested and that’s when I’m afraid I won’t remember.

6. If you could join any musical group who would you choose? I haven’t really given such thought to being a part of a band. In fact, I’d rather not be. That’s a hard life to be on the road touring and performing all the time.

7. What are your favorite genres across all media? I’m stumped on this because I can narrow down a genre for music or movies but all media? Could it be you’re asking what is my favorite media? If that’s the question and I’m not 100% sure that is then I’d have to say music. I listen to music frequently throughout the day. Music moves me in many ways during the day. It lifts my mood and invigorates my body. Music makes the day better.

8. What candle scents are your favorite? I’m not overly fond of scented candles. They are pretty and nice but I don’t want them in my home. That being said, I think I prefer mild scents such as vanilla.

9. How well can you mimic other accents or voices? I am so-so doing a British accent but don’t put me to the test by asking a Brit how I sound.

10. What books are on your TBR list in 2021? Nothing.

11. When do you decide it’s time to upgrade/buy something new? Usually when it’s broken or too old to work efficiently.

12. Why is your favorite color your favorite color? Pink is my favorite color because it’s feminine.

13. Who understands you the best? Aside from God I’d have to say my DH.

14. Do you write letters? I usually put out an annual Christmas letter when I send Christmas cards and occasionally when an old pen pal drops in my mailbox then I will respond. I don’t write often, though.

15. How do you keep going when times are hard? I remind myself that God is in control. I can do all that I know to but if things fall through the cracks as they have done over the past year then I cling to Proverbs 3:5 to trust the Lord with all my heart even though I do not know what’s going on.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) #BoTB showdown https://curiousasacathy.com/christmas-baby-please-come-home-botb-showdown/ https://curiousasacathy.com/christmas-baby-please-come-home-botb-showdown/#comments Tue, 01 Dec 2020 11:00:00 +0000 https://curiousasacathy.com/?p=45742 Continue reading Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) #BoTB showdown]]> I didn’t know that Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) was originally recorded by Darlene Love much less that it’s an oldie (release date Nov. 1963). I made this discovery while looking for tunes to share this holiday season.

SecondHandSongs lists more than 100 covers of Miss Love’s vintage hit. I’m not sure which artist cover I know best. The truth is classic Christmas mewsic is my preference but in recent years I’ve come to enjoy the contemporary holiday songs to spice up my listening pleasure during the season.

In today’s battle of the sexes, I picked two groups with a throw-back vibe from yesteryear. For the ladies, I’m using the new-to-me band, Good Lovelies. You have to love that name! In fact, it was the group’s name that caught my attention.

GOOD LOVLIES

Although I notice the next band on the SHS list, I didn’t click on their verison. It was while at YouTube listening to another rendition that I spotted their video preview which caught my eye and interest to listen. Check out Band #2, Human Nature!

HUMAN NATURE

You’ll find more awesome battles underway at some of these blog listed below and if you’d like to be included in the fun, then contact Stephen requesting to be added to the list.

POLLS CLOSE NOON (EST) on DEC. 7th

Who gets your vote Good Lovelies or Human Nature?

I’ll be back right here next week to announce the winner in this round, so be sure to mark your calendar to see if your favorite artist wins in this showdown.

How was your Labor Day weekend? We kept to our usual traditions. DH’s Friday off coincided with Labor Day so we enjoyed a 4-day weekend which made it especially nice. 🙂

I got to try out a new recipe, No Churn Cookies and Cream ice cream I discovered in June. I tried a no churn recipe in recent years but wasn’t impressed with the outcome but this homemade, no churn version came pretty darn close to some of the premium ice cream brands you can get in the grocery store. I definitely plan to make this one again. I didn’t snap any pictures because I couldn’t get the ice cream out in pretty rounds. I had to use my spade. It really set up hard after 24+ hours in the freezer.

We did taste comparisons of a few products this weekend. We tried two different turkey wieners and two different potato chips. I bought some Oscar Myer Turkey wieners and Ball Park Turkey wieners for our Labor Day dinner. I thought hotdogs were fitting for the holiday. How’s that you ask, simple to honor DH who works like a dog. lol And to all other hard working Americans. 😉 We wanted to try the turkey wieners for a healthier version to traditional hotdogs. I like regular hotdogs better but both of the turkey dogs were good. I can’t say for sure if I have a favorite but if I were to pick one based on calories alone then I’d definitely pick the Ball Park. Each wiener (50g) is only 45 calories (0 from fat) whereas the O.M. dogs (45g) are 100 calories (60 from fat) each. I figured the O.M. dogs would be tastier but they weren’t.

Trying out two brands of potato chips had nothing to do with the need to cut calories back. We get on these kicks sometimes where we like sampling two or more of the same product. Actually, DH got into a potato chip mood after reading an article featuring locally made chips in various towns. We found two of them on the list Utz and Golden Flake, both classic style chips. The Utz chips are thinner, more fragile, and the potato flavor sort of lost. Maybe it’s the type of oil used. The Golden Flake chips are thicker, more hardy, and tasted like potatoes. The winner clearly according to our taste buds is Golden Flake. We bought two other bags of potato chips but haven’t tried them yet. That comparison and review will happen another time.

Alright enough yammering about food. Let me fill in on how my two cover artists, Phoebe Bridgers and Salvio Bartolomucci did in last week’s Summer’s End BoTB.

The majority spoke, the ballots reveal a 7 to 4 victory for Phoebe Bridgers !

I like sharing another sample of the winning artist. I have to be honest I couldn’t find anything I was crazy about. Her lyrics tend to be too dark to suit my taste or sometimes it just doesn’t make sense or a poor word (curse) choice. Phoebe has a dreamy vocal quality. Her mewsic arrangements often sound pleasing to the ear but her material (lyrics) stinks. That’s my opinion, though. In the end, I just went with a YouTube playlist of songs from her latest album, Punisher.

Please check with Stephen for a complete list of BoTBers with possible result posts. Mark your calendar for my next battle on Tuesday, September 15th so to not miss out on the fun.

I’m a day behind in Blogosphere and I suspect this pattern will follow me all week. Oh well, I’ll do the best I can. Meanwhile, it’s time to grab a cup of coffee, then I’m heading off to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-PlusRandom Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and checking out this week’s word prompt found at Eugi’s Causerie for the wannabe poet buried inside. That’s a wrap for now but come back tomorrow for Wild Wednesdays where just about anything goes! 😉 X💋X💋, Cathy
