Sand Beach #AcadiaNationalPark 1997

Last week, I shared views from Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park from our 1997 family vacation. We spent a few days in Bar Harbor late October. You can see the fall colors in the trees. Everyone told us the foliage was past peak but we loved it – it was beautiful!

To get here, we first started on the beach from the far right corner or least I think that’s the way I remember as seen in the next image.
I don’t know who these kids are but they aren’t ours. If I’m right, we came down a flight of steps to the beach just to the right of these trees.

A similar view from the first. I have a picture of the kids sitting on some rocks with this scene behind them but I haven’t come across that photograph yet.
The hardest part about the trail was climbing from the side of the mountain in the previous picture. Here the trail goes back into the woods along the coast. The path is a bit irregular but manageable. I’m sure the next time we visit Maine, we won’t want to try to scale the side of the mountain like we did 20+ years ago. Who knows maybe they put in some steps now and if so then I’d like to retrace our footsteps.
The trail circled back to the parking lot. We took one last look at Sand Beach before we left. This is a gorgeous spot. I can’t wait to return. Hopefully next year about this time we can make it there again!

Join my #WildWednesdays linky party where just about anything goes! The concept for this mid-week blog hop was conceived as I found myself moving farther away from photography and more toward art. Of course, that’s not what this party is about. You’re invited to share anything – artwork, DIY projects, photos, music, musings, randomness, recipes, and more!

I’m linking with these Wordless Wednesday Communities… Sandee, Natasha,  Marie, & Wordless Wednesday! 😉

[tweetthis]#WildWednesdays the linky party where just about anything goes is now open. Promote your favorite post! #photography #music #musings #creativewriting #art[/tweetthis]

I’ll be back tomorrow to join Rain’s Garden in her Thursday Art Date challenge with a brand new pencil sketch, so please drop by to check out my crops & farming illustration.

Thanks for joining me today and may you have a blessed day! X💋X💋, Cathy

      Hey Bud,

Thanks for the invite to these fun memes. I will certainly entertain the idea. Actually, I’ve missed doing these sorts of memes. Years ago I joined in with Hodgepodge Wednesday but I got side lined. I will try to incorporate Monday Madness in with my Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me post. As for the other two, the weekends I generally am MIA. That’s my time to spend with DH and it’s good to have down time from the Internet. Thanks for popping in for a visit. It’s always nice to make a new friend. Have wonderfully fun and Wild Wednesday!

Oh such great photos of a lovely state! As a child I spent vacation time with my family in Maine and with my sister a few years back when she lived in New Hampshire not far from York, Maine! We would drive over spend time on the beach and devour lobster at a close by restaurant! Such fun! Have a great day!

      Kathe,

In 1989 for our 10th wedding anniversary we stayed in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and crisscrossed across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. I think we raked up an additional 1000 miles on car doing that, all with an almost 1-year old. She did fabulous. We were so amazed! The last time we were in Maine (2004) we went to York to see Nubble Lighthouse from the shore. You have to take a ferry to get to the lighthouse and we didn’t have time for that since we were heading for Bar Harbor. We’d been driving all night managing to enter the Pine Tree state 16-hours after leaving our home. The only thing that kept us going was our adrenaline. That was another crazy fun vacation! When we go back, hopefully next year, we want to spend about 4-5 days in Vermont/New Hampshire before hitting the Maine coast. We want to return to Bar Harbor, maybe spend a night in Boothbay. Whatever we decide on doing will be loads of fun!

      Deb,

When we were at Sand Beach it was mid to late October, so that might be why there weren’t many people out. The day was gorgeous as you can see by the photos and there was definitely a bit of nip in the air but I couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Thanks, Brian! It’s a beautiful place. You’d like to put your little furry toes in the sand but you’ll probably want to stay away from the crashing water on the beach. 🙂

      Steve,

Maine is an amazing place to visit. I love that the state offers not only the beautiful rugged shoreline but mountains. Mount Katadhin is the highest elevation in the state at 5293′, not quite as high as our Smoky’s Clingmans Dome 6643′ but impressive still and I imagine the view is probably breathtaking from there. We haven’t been to Rangeley where you’ll find Baxter State Park home to Mount Katadhin but we hope to visit on our next trip northeast. 🙂

      Ellen,

It absolutely was fun. I remarked on this many times how despite our money situation we managed to have the best of time and the memories will always stay with me. 🙂

  • Sandee

I love being on or near the water. What a beautiful place.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless and Wild Wednesday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

I love looking through old pictures. They sure do bring back some fond memories. The spot over looking the beach was a bit challenging with three young kids with no steps but we made it. I’m not sure if I’m ready to do that again. Hopefully, they’ve carved out some foot rests in the side that hill for easier access. The rest of the hike was easy-peasy!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild & Almost Wordless Wednesday to you, dear friend!

I was so excited after seeing pictures you posted of Thunder Hole that I showed them to Mrs. Shady. I will show her today’s post as well because we are fast becoming Maine-iacs, highly motivated to visit Maine and perhaps move there someday. Clearly scenic beauty abounds. Mrs. S and I both love mountains and lakes and we also love the seashore. Maine offers all of the above, and much of the shoreline appears rugged, natural and unspoiled, not the kind of beaches that would be filled with tourists and spring breakers. That’s what we are looking for.

Thanks for posting that beautiful vocal performance by Ella Fitzgerald. The song she sings, “How Deep Is The Ocean,” was written in 1932 by Irving Berlin. The song is unique because it poses a series of questions, mostly rhetorical.

Thank you for sharing more family travel pics from long ago and for the pretty song to start my day. I’ll see you tamale for Rain Date. Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

I believe you and Mrs. S would love Maine! As you pointed out the state has the best of both worlds – the ocean and the mountains. The beaches in Maine that get a lot action are going to be the ones in the southern part of the state I’d think since they are more sandy. I’m not a water lover but I like seeing the beauty of the ocean. I think if I picked a state near the water it would certainly be Maine. I can’t wait to return to the area next year. cross fingers, say a little prayer It’ll be glorious fun!

I stumbled across Diana Krall’s cover of “How Deep Is The Ocean” and almost went with it but then I noticed Ella’s rendition which I liked better. For some reason I thought Ella did the original but I wasn’t really thinking about the time line. I looked it but at the time this song released Ella was only 16. Goodness, did you read about her life on Wiki? She had a rough upbringing.

Thanks for popping by first thing this morning. I hope you have a wonderfully fun & Wild Wednesday, my friend!
