Thursday Art Date

#Procreate realistic lips illustrations for today’s #art date

Thanks for stopping in with your morning coffee for a peek at my latest illustration. This week Rain challenged us to sketch a facial feature. In September she gave a similar prompt. You might recall I attempted to draw realistic eyes and ears. I didn’t master it but I had fun. I think I’ll try illustrate realistic lips using these step-by-step instructions.

I am going to share two drawings.  First I will show you my black and white illustration, followed by the same drawing except in color.

While my realistic lips aren’t 100%, I am pleased with how both sketches turned out.  I find I do better when I try to not do exactly as another artist does but to use what I learn as guidelines. That takes away the pressure of trying to get mine to match precisely.

This week’s Thankful Thursday I’m thankful DS is making good progress in repairing his car after sliding into a ditch on Christmas eve.  He’s very handy working with his hands which is another reason to be thankful. I’m thankful for the extra long holiday weekend to spend with DH.  I’m even thankful for the return of being back to my old schedule again.  I continue to be thankful for our good health. We’re holding out very well totally Covid-free and that’s precisely how I plan to keep us.

Last month I felt too pressed to do everything in Blogosphere and I fell out of step with Kat’s writing prompts which I barely began again after years of being away from her workshop.  Writing was my first creative passion. Hopefully in this new year I can waken that side of me before it becomes lost altogether. This week I’m using Kat’s prompt What were you blogging about a year ago? What has changed since then?

January 7, 2020 fell on a Tuesday.  That’s my time slot for Tickle Me Tuesdays and on this date,  I shared with everyone about the amazing SlingTV stand along service. We’re still enjoy using the streaming option when possible. They do have on-demand content but what I like is we can record a program to watch later when it’s convenient.  Over the holiday weekend, we finally got to watch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on FX New Year’s Eve.  Friday night, we recorded Equalizer 2 and watched it Saturday.  All December we enjoyed streaming the Food Network: Christmas Cookie Challenge episodes on SlingTV, too. That’s been such fun. The featured bakers’ talent is crazy amazing!  In Blogosphere I would say very little has changed in the past year but I’m feeling like change is needed to get everything I want to done in a day’s time.  I hope 2021 is the year I see many of my dreams bloom and my desire for you is that you’ll see yours come true, too.

That winds things up for today. You’re welcome to follow me over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry on display.  I’ll be back tomorrow to announce the winner in last week’s BoTB in my edition of Friday Fun Stuff. Come join the fun! X💋X💋, Cathy

You say that your lips aren’t 100% but they are far greater than anything I could have drawn! I’m in awe with just how realistic they are. I love the way that you have used highlights to give them depth.

      Britt,

Thanks I really appreciate your kindness. I am happy with how they turned out but I’ve seen some drawings that look like photos. I’d love to sketch like that!

Your luscious lips are beautiful … movie starish. Using your own well developed talents certainly works for you. I have a hard time with lips … not just any lips, but I find when I am doing a portrait of sorts, the mouth is the hardest part and I rarely get it right even after multiple tries. I sure admire you for your ability 🙂

Love your artwork, Cathy! I do a bit myself and always feel that putting your own creative spin on a piece is important. Also, I’ve always disliked having to “follow” the art guidelines that were laid out when I was in school, just HAD to step outside of the box. And always got in trouble for not conforming.

Whatever. Do what you do, it’s great!

    Stay safe!

      Patty,

Thank you! Doing things your own way is the right approach. It doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong, just different to achieve your goal and it removes frustration. Looking back on how we are taught in school I realize that every child is different and has their own way of learning. Often teachers didn’t understand forcing the unique few into the box with the others is the right way for a child to learn. Thanks for visiting and please come again!

Oh those LIPS, Cathy. They are simply incredible and so well drawn. I can’t draw anything, and you did a fabulous job.

I’d like to learn more about Sling TV. I know nothing about it, and am sure I’d save a fortune over what I’m paying for cable.

      Elizabeth,

I’m happy I provided you some valuable info on Sling TV. We have basic cable but only because it allows us to get our high speed internet at a discount but never really used it until we got our streaming devices: Apple TV and Roku. We were able to use our sign-in info to access some of the cable channels. Sling TV offers what we want considerably less and we don’t need any special equipment which is super cool! Thanks for the kind things you said about my drawings.

First, super excited you posted about writing and shared the Writing Workshop. Much needed as I seek to get back to writing this year. I miss blogging and seeing what others are doing around the world. Second, hopefully car repair will continue to progress and congrats on being Covid free. That’s always a bright spot!

      Christy,

Thanks for joining me. I wish for you the best to get back into writing. That’s one of my goals. I hope to use each post prompt as a means to share lost memories as I reconnect to creative writing again. Have a good 2021!

Kissable lips..if I was a guy:) I love the shiny look of lip gloss you created in the coloured drawing. You did a nice shading. I am glad your hubby was not hurt and that all is well. I am thankful for my hubby, warts and all. Well, he is my prince and does so much despite his rheumatoid arthritis.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Birgit,

If Katie Perry can kiss a girl then so can you, right? lol I appreciate your compliments on my drawings. The DS and DH was a bit confusing in the same paragraph. It was our son who had the accident.;) Ahh, that’s so sweet that your hubby is your prince warts and all! lol It’s nice to have the love of a good man.

  • John Holton

First of all, nice lips! Maybe not totally realistic, but maybe 80%, which is pretty darn good!

As to your email: I haven’t figured out what to do about Battle of the Bands. My guess is that I’ll jump back in February 1 and attempt to do one every two weeks, but don’t hold me to that. 😉

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

You’re right, my lips aren’t totally realistic so I will need to keep at it. The best part is, it was a fun exercise that challenged me. Anything I do that brings me joy then I’m all for it. Thanks for sharing your plans for future BoTB showdowns. Have a good day!

  • Astrid

These are some great thankfuls! So glad DS is working on repairing his car. I also love your look back at last year’s post.

    • Cathy Kennedy

The prompt I picked from Kat’s list was a great tie for me this week. I ought think more about what I was doing last year this time with the object to inspire more content or simply to remind myself of what was going on. Thanks for visiting.

  • Rain Frances

Hi Cathy 🙂 Your lips are sensational…they are so creative and original AND realistic!!! Very well done, I have to say with colour they look even better!!! 🙂 I’d love to sit on the couch and watch the Food Network for the entire weekend!!! I think that’s the only thing I miss about television. I used to watch so many cooking shows!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Rain,

I bet you can subscribe to any of the streaming services on your computer if you’re interested in watching any of these shows. Snuggling in the living room on the weekends binging watching our favorite TV series or some good movies is a good way for us to unwind in the evenings. We’re looking forward to doing more of it this evening. It’s been an exhausting week with getting back into the work groove, as well as the disturbing current events. All I can say is “Jesus take the wheel!” 🙂 Thanks for visiting, dearie.
