Monday's Music Moves Me

Playing Rhythm and Blues

This is a Google image borrow in which I included the caption to share with Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus 🙂

Howdy-hi, folks!  The new work week has started.  Perhaps, you haven’t clocked in yet or maybe you’re just getting off.  Whatever time it is, it’s always a good time for music.  Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me!

This is a no-themed week which means you can pick your own songs.  Every other week unless I’m inspired, I hit my go-to ‘YouTube Music Video links” I keep stashed in a folder to use when I’m stuck, short on time, or just too lazy to do anything. It’s summer so I’m probably a bit more of the later than anything making this is a great opportunity to share some of these with you.

My 4M playlist consists of mostly R&B tunes I’ve collected over the past 2 to 3 years which includes these song titles.

1.  Kinderspel by Birds of Chicago  2. Love Song by Anderlin   3.  I’m Gonna Make It ~Billy Paul  4.  Can’t Stop Loving You ~Phil Collins  5.  River In The Pines ~The Deep Dark Woods  6. Big Sky ~The Wild Feathers  7. Ten Million Slaves ~Public Enemies Soundtrack  8.  Misty Blue ~Dorothy Moore   9. Pray ~Sam Smith  10. My Revival ~Brandon Taz Niederauer

I think some of these artist came from you and others I stumbled upon but these discoveries were made before I decided to keep track of whole shared what.  Please let me know if you’re introduced any of these to me.  Alrighty, are you ready for some music?  Hit play to enjoy now!

This month’s honorary co-hostess is Alana from Ramblin with AM

❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I haven’t forgotten.  It’s time to announce the winner of last week’s The Man With the Golden Gun BOTB Showdown, but first let me say thanks to everyone who took part in the voting process.  This is what makes doing these battles fun – your participation!  After tallying the votes, this battle ended in a gridlock.  Both artist received 7 votes each.  No winner this round but WOW, I didn’t see this coming! Did you?

This is how the votes went.

The Bond…James Bond Tribute Band collected votes from Mary, Mimi, Brian, Ellen, John, Eugenia, and Mike.

Jennifer Rush got votes from Tom, Nicole, Sandee, Birgit, Aaron, Diedre, & Jennifer.

My next BOTB showdown is scheduled for September 1st, so mark your calendar!  I can’t leave you empty handed.  I’m going to wrap things up with Alice Cooper’s Man With the Golden Gun!

Some of you have asked about Marie.  I spoke with her last week.  She’s dealing with her chronic back pain and it has her knocked out of commission.  On Friday she was scheduled to have her back shot so hopefully by now she’s getting some relief.  Her blog problems can’t be fixed while she’s not feeling well, so I told her to not to worry about and that when she’s more like her self again that we’d try to get things ironed out.  Keep our gal in your thoughts and prayers.  😉   I’ll see you next week, same time.  Alana wants us to build a playlist of song for a decade that was so much fun that you’d want to do it again.   That’s it for today.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

Back pain ugh, it can be so debilitating. I hope Marie is feeling better by now and can join us with a decade playlist. I only knew a couple of the songs on your playlist. I know (definitely) one of the Music Moves Me group introduced us to Birds of Chicago. Phil Collins I knew, but not this song. Sam Smith, I knew, but not this song. I knew the original Cure song but not the cover. Nice and relaxing background playlist. I listened to part of it and will save the rest for when I do laundry later today.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

Yeah, someone in the group introduce us to Birds of Chicago. I thought John might have brought this band to our attention but he says they are new to him. Oh well…maybe the mystery will be solved sometime soon.

Now that’s a bikini line we only could wish for…MOL…Great songs, CK, we liked the cover of The Cure. The first and the last songs are completely new to us and there was another one, the girl who looked like Randy Crawford…in a way. The last one sure is one reminder. We’ll purray for Mary and leave some Healing Pawkisses too for her and hope she feels better soon🙏🙏🙏And for you, CK, a lot of Pawkisses for a Happy Day🐾😽💞

      Binky,

It’s such a pleasure to have you hit the dance floor. I’m glad you enjoyed my music set. Thanks for sending up those prayers for Marie. She’s doing better. There is power in prayer!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Hey Natasha,

I’m slow to respond. It was great having you stop by the dance floor last week. You’re welcome to join the party anytime, my friend!

  • John Holton

Excellent playlist, first of all. I really liked the song by Birds of Chicago. I had never heard of them, if you can believe that. The young woman, Allison Russell (assuming Wikipedia is correct), has a great voice.

I’ve come to believe that ties in BotB indicate that you did a really good job picking your contestants. Well done!

Wikipedia says that Alice Cooper had actually submitted his song to the producers of the movie, but they went with Lulu’s instead. Frankly, I think they goofed.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I thought it was you who might have shared Birds of Chicago with me. Now, I’m clueless how I came to find them. Yes, Alice Cooper did submit his song but it was wee late in getting to the producers. In my opinion, Lulu’s song is a better choice anyhow.

      • John Holton

Alice Cooper, for all his craziness, is a pretty straightforward guy. He and Glen Campbell were very close. Both were Christians and recovering alcoholics, and obviously were popular musicians. I might not care for his music, but I admire him….

    Heeheehee! Bikini lines, that’s great.

As always, great music and i am very surprised how the battle turned out.

The last one reminded me of the HALT acronym, don’t let yourself get to hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. Those are times to watch your mouth as well, as i know from experience.

  • Sandee

Adorable Awww Monday contribution. Not bikini lines indeed. Cute, cute, cute.

    Love R&B. Hubby and I love R&B.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

  • Birgit

Ughh, Back pain is horrible especially if it is the sciatica. I hope it eases up soon for her because pain is just horrible. Your battle was a tie it looks like so you must have been the tie breaker. Great battle! Love the tunes you did here except for the last one…her voice started to grate on me for some reason. Oh well. Have a fantastic Monday!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Birgit,

Yes my battle was a tie but no I didn’t break the tie. I just decided to use the Alice Cooper song because it’s not a cover. Thanks for dropping in for a visit and dance, my friend!

  • DrillerAA

I’ll have to come back and listen to the rest of the playlist today. Right now I can’t get past Birds of Chicago. Thanks for the intro to a wonderful group.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Listening to a long playlist requires a little time. I find it easy to do while doing other things which I generally purposely do so I can enjoy those long playlists. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday to you, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

I wanna smooch that cute sunbathing sea lion who thinks she’s The Little Mermaid, giving new meaning to “Sealed with a Kiss.” 🙂

Just take those old records off the shelf. I am always in the mood for some good old R&B, and you delivered some fine selections in that and other categories this morning. I appreciate the introduction to Birds of Chicago, a band led by husband and wife JT Nero and Allison Russell doing a song from their 2016 debut studio album Real Midnight. Allison adds a touch of soul to songs drawn from folk, country, jazz and Americana mewsic genres. Also new to my ears is the sound of Anberlin, an alternative rock band based right here in my neck of the woods – Winter Haven, Florida. I like ’em! I well remember the hit album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul. I saw copies of it everywhere during the 70s. Billy is best known for his smooth R&B ballad “Me And Mrs. Jones,” and this song, “I’m Gonna Make It,” sounds similar. The sound of Phil Collins was ubiquitous in the 1980s. Sadly, Phil has been in poor health in recent years, walks with a cane and sits while performing. The mewsic category “alternative country” is brand new to me, and is used to classify the recordings of the Canadian band The Deep Dark Woods. They’re refreshingly different. More familiar to me is the Southern country rock style of The Wild Feathers. I thoroughly enjoyed their harmonies on “Big Sky.” I also love the raw sound of Chicago blues great Otis Taylor doing “Ten Million Slaves,” a song from the OST of the 2009 bio crime drama movie Public Enemies. Whenever I hear Dorothy Moore’s hit “Misty Blue,” I am reminded that it was the song played over and over again in the Arthur Murray Dance studio where Mrs. Shady #1 and I took dancing lessons. I also like the R&B gospel feel of English singer/songwriter Sam Smith. Wiki sez that Sam tweeted the following shortly after the release of this song “Pray”: << “I hope you love ‘Pray’, I hope it becomes your friend in those deep dark nights of confusion and loneliness. Love you all so much.” >> Pure excitement describes Brandon Taz Niederauer, a blues – soul artist who starred in the musical School of Rock on Broadway.

Thanks for reporting the result of your latest BOTB. On day one, I saw how it was seesawing, and I am therefore not surprised it ended in a tie. That’s a perfect outcome for a blogger who hosts the battle, so congratulations to you for choosing two evenly matched contestants. Prayers go out to Marie.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

I’m always delighted to introduce you to something new. It takes a lot to one over on you. My BOTB was a like a ping pong match. I really didn’t think it would end like this, though. Thanks for the prayers for Marie. She’s doing much better.
