Thursday Art Date

My lil cupcake

Good-morning, my lovelies!  I’m not a fan of cupcakes these days.  It seems they are a totally in thing or at least before the pandemic.  I couldn’t tell you now.  I think bakery cupcakes are pretty but I seriously doubt they can match a home baked cake. Besides, the cost of a single cupcake is ridiculously high and frustrating because let’s face it, one cupcake isn’t the same as big slice of cake.

As you might have guessed Rain’s art prompt is ‘cupcake’.  What am I to do with this, I thought.  I was going to sketch a single cupcake but decided I wanted to draw something more lively and went with a little girl holding a plate of cupcakes.

This week’s Thankful Thursday…  I have to include my health.  A week ago this past Friday I injured my lower back while doing yard work.  The pain I experienced according to my Internet diagnosis could’ve been my sciatic nerve.  It took me a few days to figure out what was the best way to treat this but once I did I began sensing a remarkable improvement and today I’m much, much better.  It’s not 100% relieved but it won’t be long.   For those who suffer with sciatic nerve pain let me encourage you to keep moving.  Sitting is the worse thing you can do.  Also, maintain good posture at all times, sitting, standing, and sleeping.  I found sleeping flat on my back with a heating pad on low placed under my lower back extremely helpful and if I needed to roller over to sleep on the opposite side of my pain kind of on my tummy with my right left bent at the knee so to not put any pressure on my lower back.  During the day, I did a lot of standing when possible.  All of these things with the good Lord’s touch I contribute to my recovery.

I’m winding things up today with Kat’s Writing Workshop. I’m going with the summer is coming and tell you what I’m looking forward to prompt.  This might seem boring to some but the first thing I’m looking forward to is new blogging regime.  It’ll be nice to not feel like I have to do anything in Blogosphere that I don’t want to do other than to post once per week and make my rounds.  I also have plans to get my life back on track with exercising.  I started this week and have managed to squeeze in time each day.  In recent days I’ve come to understand that burying myself into my blog was a way for me to cope with the pandemic.  I’m ready to move forward. Push the dread far, far behind me and resume normal, healthy, active life again.    In fact, we are talking about taking that New England vacation later in the summer.  We want to see how businesses are bouncing back, restrictions being fully lifted, accommodation availability, and so forth. THIS has me quite excited!  We aren’t big on taking annual vacations.  The expense has always been an issue for us.  In a way that’s kind of good because when we do take one, we don’t let any opportunity pass us.  We hit the day running full speed until we lay our head touches the pillow each night.  Of course, if we find ourselves moving into a new home between now and then we will have to postpone our trip until next spring.  Either way, the possibilities on the horizon have me energized.

In keeping with this week’s art prompt, I thought it would be fun to see where my music discovery would lead me for this week TBT tune(s) and came across the legend of the swamp pop era from the 50s, Cookie and the Cupcakes.  I hope you enjoy listening to their By Request album today.

By Request playlist tracks:  Belinda, Got You On My Mind, Mathilda, Walking Down the Aisle, Even Though, I Almost Lost My Mind, Just One Kiss, Honey Hush, Sea of Love, Betty and Dupree, Shake ‘Em Up, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, I Cried, Long Time Ago, Trouble in My Life, Feel So Good, The Peanut (instrumental), Charged with Cheating, I’ve Been So Lonely, The Duck

This is my last full week for my regular scheduled blogging routine.  Starting Monday, I will roll over to my summer time schedule which pretty much means once a week.  I have plans to keep folks boogieing on the dance floor each Monday and roll out a Battle of the Bands at the beginning of the month.  Anything else I do will be frosting on the cake or cupcake.  To stay in the loop of what’s happening with me, I encourage you to join my email subscription for immediate notice of all new content that publishes.  I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse the gallery of artistry.  Have a doodletastic day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Good for you with getting away whenever, and wherever, you can! Will keep good thoughts for you with the back issues, keep up the exercise and just keep moving…period!

The pandemic definitely gave most of us a lot of time to write, forced time but still a welcome diversion from the damn virus drama. Now, as we’re all slowly coming out of hiding, there are discoveries waiting to happen everywhere. Hopefully, we’ll all stay safe while enjoying mask less-life again.

And…I think cupcakes are cute, highly overrated, but cute. Nothing, absolutely nothing, beats a homemade layer cake!

Also keeping fingers crossed that that new home will come knocking at your door…soon!

Love your sketch of the cute little cupcake girl! I’m so glad your back is getting better and hope it continues to improve. Thanks so much for the mention, and I truly appreciate it. Keep on keepin’ on! 😘

I agree that most cupcakes aren’t as good as a big slice of homemade cake. But I sure love the girl and her cupcakes she is sharing. They are cute and so is she. Sorry to read about your back. That sounds really painful. You sure diagnosed yourself well. Enjoyed hearing that old music, too. Hope you have a great weekend Cathy.

Dad says he remembers this one and we love it. What a nice sound he has and that is before all the added electronic changes they do today. We loved your cupcake gal and prefer a big slice ourselves

I enjoyed listening to the whole thing by this early group. I enjoyed it especially the Duck one..hahahaa. Love the Cupcake gal and I find cupcakes way too expensive when all you do is take cake batter and pour it into the cupcake molds. I find them too sweet as well. I hope you will still do the weekly song challenge but enjoy your blogging break. Get out in the sun, walk and enjoy what you love to do. Be conscience of your back so it doesn’t happen again. I have learned to be aware of my walking, bending etc… It’s not easy to do. I hope, as well, you find the home of your dreams this summer.

That’s so cute the picture I painted, I like the music!
Back pain is bad, I’m glad you’re feeling better.
Have a good weekend, hug Elke

I love your sketches and I’m happy your back is much better. If we exercise our core then back pain as you described is a thing of the past. So my doctor says. Must be true since I’ve not had an issue in years.

I don’t remember that group. I was but a child.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
