Wild Wednesdays

Mid-week musings about DH Birthday weekend

Last Friday was DH’s birthday. I made a cherry cake with vanilla buttercream frosting from scratch. His mother made him a similar version except from box that he loved as boy. He’s an old softie who misses the sweet things his mother did for him as a boy and I wanted him to have a bit of that old feeling again. It’s not the same. How can it be? The thing is he really appreciated the effort and he loved the cake!

I used the same recipe I shared a few years ago except made some modifications.

Long ago, we adopted the use of a single candle on top of our cakes otherwise we’d have to set a mini fire that could go horribly wrong.

I got him a Philips Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush. This is something he’s wanted and I like the idea that I’m helping to keep his teeth and gums healthy. 🙂

For his birthday dinner he was treated to a home-made pizza one night and then another night over the weekend, I made skillet style chicken fajitas which turned out nicely.  I had left over Green Chile rice and refried beans in the freezer that I made a month or so ago when we had taco salads which went great with the fajitas!

We watched a few movies on Amazon Prime Friday night. Chasers (1994) with Tom Berenger, William McNamara, & Erika Eleniak.  This was a fun film. It’s up to two Navy SP officers to escort a beautiful female who went UA to prison and she will stop at nothing to escape!  We also saw Home Sweet Hell with Catherine Heigl, Patrick Wilson, and Jim Belushi. This one is a dark comedy which isn’t our favorite genre for us but we were able to endure to the end. This story is about Don and Mona Champagne who seem to have the picture perfect marriage until Mona learns of Don’s affair and she’ll do anything to insure this dream isn’t shattered. On Saturday night we switched to Hulu. We streamed two scary flicks – The Lodge (2019) and Feral (2017).  Neither was outstanding but we had fun settling in for an evening of spooky fun and that’s all that mattered to us. Of the four movies, Chasers, is the best of the lot. 😉

Does she look familiar? She should because I basically used my Flirt vintage pinup girl design with a few make-overs. 😉 I used the redesign for DH’s bday greeting.

I’m not hosting a WW linky party until after Labor Day because I’m not in regular groove for mid-week hops and Internet traffic is sluggish, so why worry, right? So…I grabbed the linky code from Comedy Plus’ site for y’all to join and of course when you leave a comment then I’ll know to visit ya, too. 😉  That wraps things up. I’ll be back tomorrow to join the Thursday Art Date with Rain artist community. Thanks for joining me today and may you have a blessed day! X💋X💋, Cathy

      Natasha,

The cake is yummy! Believe it or not we still have some left. 🙂 I put what we didn’t eat in the freezer for times when we, mostly DH, wants something sweet. That’s a great way to make the goodness last a little longer. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by, darlin’!

      Anne,

Ahh, you’re so sweet! Thanks for visiting. After I made DH’s bday cake I got the idea to make a blueberry version of it. I can’t wait to try making a blueberry cake with vanilla butter cream frosting. Yum, Yum! That will have to wait as I want to first try making Whoopie Pies which I’ve never done but we had these in Maine in 2004 and I have wanted more ever since that time, so it’s time to do something about it. 🙂

      Hey Marie,

Your blog is already on the linky because THIS is Sandee’s linky party. I just borrowed the code and slipped it in on my post since I’m not hosting my own for now. 😉 Nah, I don’t have any quick tips for moving your blog. I’m sure there’s an easy way to do it but I haven’t looked into it. Yell at me if you need help anyhow and I’m ready to do what I can to assist, dearie!

Happy Birthday to DH! Your movies are way too creepy for me- I like movies that are funny with a twisted sense of humor! Cheers!

Thanks for visiting me and commenting! Happy belated birthday to your DH. The cake looks yummy! PS: I’ll say the high “SHCOOL” names are a bit wrong on the billboards I shared, LOL!

      Melanie,

I had to go back to your site to look at the picture again. I guess it was too early or my coffee wasn’t working just yet for me to spot that one. LOL Thanks for dropping by!

    Hi,Cathy!

It looks like you’re slowly returning to your regular blogging schedule, dear friend. I always enjoy visiting you. Happy belated birthday to DH! I often think about the tme the three of us took part in a conference call. I am a reclusive blogger, meaning I do not meet socially with blog friends. Our 3-way call that day remains the one and only time I have spoken on the phone to another blogger. The impression I got all those years ago was that you and Robin are fine people. That impression hasn’t changed. Two cakes for Rob? What a lucky man! Plus, all those other dishes you prepared for him sound delicious. You must be quite a cook. Then there’s your talent as an artist. I love to gaze at your Flirt pinup girl fleshed out In Living Color. Her features are soft and delicate and I am sure all the men are eager to cuddle with her. Thanks for the movie reviews. I am always eager to get tips on things to watch, especially scary movies. Katherine Heigl has been knocked around quite a bit in her career. I don’t think fans ever fully forgave her for leaving Grey’s Anatomy. Several of her subsequent movie and TV projects have been unsuccessful. I liked her TV series State of Affairs but it lasted only one season. I admire Katherine for her charity work and activism on behalf of animal welfare, cancer awareness, adoption and organ donation.

Have a wonderful day, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back tamale to see your Art Date with Rain post!

      Tom,

I decided it’s best to easy into blogging now so to not get overwhelmed come September and I think I’m just missing it all a wee bit. I’m gonna try to keep from getting carried away too soon, though. The time away has done me much good. Ahh, you’re so sweet to say such kind things about us! It meant a lot to us that you agreed to speak with us since we were considering the possibility of seeking employment there when DH was out of work and it gave each of us to get to know you. I’m a bit like you, reclusive when it comes to physically meeting people. I’m content with meeting online or even talking on the phone but leaving home to do is another story. This could change at anytime and part of me hopes that it does. It would be cool to meet people I have come to know through blogging. The first thing we ever saw Katherine Heigl in was Under Siege 2. She played opposite to Steven Seagal as his niece which happens to be a good movie if you haven’t seen it. Heigl is very talented and does comedy very well. We saw another of her films the previous weekend on Amazon Prime, One For the Money, where she plays a Bail Bound Hunter. I think you’ll enjoy that one! It sounds like she’s quite involved with some good causes. It was a joy to have your visit, my friend. Have a good rest of the day!
