Saturday Songsuasion

Greg Kihn Band joins Saturday Songsausion

Last week, I honestly didn’t know if I’d turn around to compose another installment of Saturday Songsausion this week but today’s artist pick crossed my ears on a fellow 4Mer’s blog.  It had been years since I’d heard the song track, ‘The Breakup Song’ (#2 on playlist below).  Thanks RamblinwithAM!  Which prodded me to listen to more music by the musician.   Using Wiki, I built a playlist based on today’s artist US Hot 100 hits.  Let’s give a warm welcome to Greg Kihn!

Greg Kihn US Hot 100 Hits: 1. Remember 2. The Breakup Song 3. Shelia 4. The Girl Most Likely 5. Testify 6. Happy Man 7. Every Love Song 8. Jeopardy 9. Love Never Fails 10. Reunited 11. Rock 12. Lucky 13. Boys Won’t 14. Love and Rock and Roll

Instead of transposing the song titles in chronological order and where each placed on the charts, I did a screen grab at Wiki.  A picture paints a thousand words, right?  Who am I kidding, I’m just too lazy this morning to do it. 🙂

Greg has a fun sense of humor. During the 80s, he released a series of pun-titled albums Kilntinued (1982), Kihnspiracy (’83), Kihntagious (’84), and Citizen Kihn (’85) which you can find playlists on Greg’s YT channel.   Do you remember the Greg Kihn band?  Are you a fan?   What songs do you remember, other than his top ranking song, Jeopardy?

Thanks for including me in your Saturday morning.  This post is for your entirely for your enjoyment, so don’t feel any pressure to leave a comment but if you want to let me know you stopped by just click “Liked” and I’ll see that you stopped by. 😉

Tomorrow, I’ll be back with Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sunday with freedom of music choice and I’m saving a dance with you, so come join me on the dance floor. 😉 Have a songsational Saturday! x💋x💋, Cathy

3 of the 4 things on this list I can do easily. Right now, I’ll have to pass on number three. 🙂

Great post. I have not heard of him either. OK cut sweet sausage into bite size pieces. Cut potatoes into 1 inch chunks. If you are not using canned potatoes you would want to steam or boil them to just under done. Cook sausage the same not quite done. Put both into a pan that can go in the over. In the same pan you cooked the sausage saute some garlic and onions. Add to pot and saus, season with a bit of Italian seasoning and bake at 350°F until potatoes brown and sausage is done. For my oven that’s about 25 minutes. You can add other veggies to as well.

Greg Kihn lives in my area and was an AM drive-time DJ for a while. His stories of life on the road were always entertaining, and he liked to share his royalty report as proof that he was no longer rich from his musical endeavors. My favorites were “Sheila” and “The Breakup Song.”

      Sharon,

That’s cool! If you have his number tell me Curious as a Cathy featured him and that he ought to come by to leave a comment. 🙂 You know, Peter Noone sent me an email once thanking me for a feature many years ago. That really made my day. You know I say many of the older musicians aren’t living high on the hog anymore unless they had some super mega chart topping songs. Greg had a couple really good ones and he had a great sound but in the era of music he play there was a lot of good talent making the industry really competitive. Today’s talent, if you can call it that, is nothing to brag about if you ask me. Oh well, it’s great visiting with you, my dear. Have a wonderful weekend!

I don’t have his number, unfortunately.

You’re right about older musicians, for sure. A lot of people tend to believe they’re wealthy to this day … even if their last hit was in tthe 1970s. Most of them are forced to live pretty modestly.

    Hi, Cathy!

I hope all went well at yesterday’s eye exam, dear friend. I am here for some Saturday Songsuasion. (That pinup girl at the top of the post looks like she could do some mighty powerful Song Suading. (LOL)

Yessum, I well remember Greg Kihn and his band. Greg is four months older than Shady and was born near me in Baltimore, MD. His mewsic videos played often on the MTV station where I worked in the 1980s. I never before heard that first song “Remember.” It’s a refreshingly different sound from that which fans came to expect from this artist in later recordings. It’s structured like and was perhaps inspired by Mason Williams’ hit “Classical Gas.” WOW – I swear it has been nearly 40 years since I last heard the nostalgic “Breakup Song,” a classic example of early 80s pop rock & power pop. Wiki says: << It has been featured in several films, including Let Me In (2010), The House of the Devil (2009), The Groomsmen (2006) and Beautiful Girls (1996) as well as the hit video game Grand Theft Auto V (2013). >> This is the very first time I am hearing Greg’s cover of Tommy Roe’s biggie “Sheila.” I like it! I am starting to see how much he was influenced by the mewsic of the 60s (same as I was). As I watch the heavily played MTV video for “Jeopardy,” it seems apparent that Greg was also influenced by the 1960’s movies Night of the Living Dead and The Graduate, because the vid borrows from both. Of course, equally memorable is the video for “Weird Al” Yankovic’s parody song “I Lost On Jeopardy” which my station also played heavily. That video for “Reunited” might have played on our station or on MTV, but I honestly don’t remember it. I see that the single was a disappointment, confined to the Bubbling Under chart. I see that “Lucky (In Love)” was Greg’s last substantial hit, but I don’t remember it.

I love that kitty meme at the end. I would add a #6 to it that reads: “REPEAT.” (LOL)

I thoroughly enjoyed this mewsical trip back through the early and mid 80s, Cathy. In case you didn’t get an email notification this time, I started a new post yesterday at Shady’s Place. I hope you can swing by and do some sweatin’ to the oldies with me. Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

That pinup girl should cause a traffic jam on CAAC but folks haven’t gotten the news flash yet that Saturday Songsuasion is back. 🙂

I figured you were well acquainted with the Greg Kihn Band. I like reading your factoids and interesting points. I didn’t realize that The Breakup Song was used in several movies. Speaking of movies, it might interest you to know right now HBO Max is running a special, get six months for the price of three. The offer expires on the 26th of this month. There’s a promo banner at the top of their site. Anyway, we’ve been wanting to try them out and this persuaded us to take the deal.

I appreciated you stopping by to join me for some Saturday tunes and for the mention of your newest post publication for which no notification came through. I wonder why that is, sometimes it works and other times not. I will say sometimes the notification comes in late in the evenings but still that would’ve meant I would’ve gotten last night. Hmmm, oh well, the important thing is I know and came by earlier today to check out your fabulous post.

Have a good evening, my friend!
