Battle of the Bands

#BoTB 2021 Round 4 Showdown – Photograph

This battle was another double booked post that I had originally set to share last September.  Oh my wacky crazy mind! There’s no use in wasting a good showdown so I decided to present it today.  I found inspiration for today’s battle song from my Procreate recreation of my pinup girl, Pose.  I based my drawing on an old photograph.  I thought why not use ‘photograph’ as my song choice, except use different songs with the same title and to make it interesting cover artists recordings instead of the original. You don’t have to know the tunes or singers, if you love mewsic then that’s all you need. Listen and tell me in comments who’s your favorite.

First up is the most recent Photograph song title written and recorded by Ed Sheeran in 2014.  This song has the most covers of any of the seven songs sharing the same title. Rolling my eyes over the 41 artists, I knew who I wanted to use without listening to a single other and that is the version recorded by legendary, Engelbert Humperdinck.

Ella Fitzgerald recorded Photograph in 1981 the English version of  Fotografia (first recorded by Silvia Telles in 1959) written by Antonio Carlos Jombim and Ray Gilbert.

Def Leppard wrote and recorded Photograph in 1983 which might be my favorite of the originals. That’s weird considering they’re a metal group but anyhow, their song generated interest from 16 other artists. Surprisingly, I found a few covers I really liked but when I spotted the next act, I knew I didn’t need to look any further. Let’s give it for Santana featuring Chris Daughtry

You’ll find more awesome battles underway at some of these blog listed below and if you’d like to be included in the fun, then contact Stephen requesting to be added to the list.

Polls close noon (EST) on Feb. 21st

Who gets your vote Humpredinck, Fitzgerald, or Santana ft. Daughtry?

Next week, I’ll be back to announce the winner in this round, probably in my 4M post for simplicity, so mark your calendar to see if your favorite artist wins in this showdown.  Don’t cut away now, folks. The mewsic continues with the best cyberblock dance party right after this with Monday’s Music Moves Me!  X💋X💋, Cathy

    CAThy, it’s that you?

Oh, shoot, ELLA & JOE by a country mile and a half!

This is the second time today that I have “boted” for Joe Pass in a BOTB. He was so dang good, and when you add Ella… ain’t nuttin’ to think about here, folks – move along.

Bless And Be Blessed, My Friend!!

      Stephen,

How are you doing? You vote is the tie breaker putting ELLA & JOE ahead! If this holds and probably will this late in the game then they will win this battle by a hair. I was really surprised to see Mike Mike use Joe Pass this time, too. He’s really amazing. Of course Ella isn’t that shabby, either. Stay safe and be well. Thanks for dropping by, my friend.

I didn’t realize that Ella had done a Songbook album on Antonio Carlos Jobim. It certainly made my job much easier, and the thing that sewed it up for me was Joe Pass on guitar. Ella all the way!

      John,

Your vote for ELLA now has my battle at a three-way tie. WOW! Unless more people stop in to vote then this might be how my showdown goes down, too. Thanks for taking time to play along, my friend.

I know the 3rd song well and they did ok but I have to give it to Engelbert who did put emotion into the words and song. I didn’t care for Ella because she sounded too monotone for me.

Not Ella’s best and I usually love all of her music. I’m going with Santana. It’s so upbeat and I was looking for that this morning.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

      Sandee,

Vocally Ella isn’t on target but the music arrangement makes her song special but it’s really hard to not be blown away by SANTANA in this round, though.

      Mike,

Thanks for voting for ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK. I zipped by your place earlier this morning. Isn’t it interesting that we both picked songs featuring Joe Pass?

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy BOTB Day, dear friend. I hope you and DH had a nice weekend. Yessum, I’ll BOLO for your second post, the 4M, later this morning.

I appreciate your Six Degrees variation of the original BOTB concept, in this case using two different songs with the same name and also posting cover versions, not the originals of those respective songs.

I can’t say that Engelbert is one of my favorite artists. I found his “Photograph” song a little too melancholy and mushy for my taste. I strongly prefer the zesty, up tempo Latin jazz sound on the second song along with the artists who recorded it. With The First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald, doing the vocal, accompanied by Joe Pass, a jazz guitarist who often worked with Ella, the “Photograph” song penned by Brazilian bossa nova pioneer Antônio Carlos Jobim simply has a lot more going for it. I give my vote to Ella & Joe!

WOW! – Santana & Chris laid down a cover of Def Leppard’s “Photograph” that easily rivals the original. I love it!

It’s funny, but when I saw the title of the song you were using in your band battle today, the first “Photograph” that came to my mind was the hit by Ringo Starr.

Thanks for the great mewsic to start the day and week, dear friend Cathy!
