Wild Wednesdays

Another look back to 1997 at memories from West Quoddy

This is my third installment at looking back on memories from our 1997 family vacation. Today, I’m taking you north of Bar Harbor to West Quoddy.  A couple of years ago I mentioned our time spent at the lighthouse and the wild weather surrounding our visit.  Here are the pictures to back our experience.  The day was beautiful – blue skies with fluffy white clouds overhead. It couldn’t have been more picturesque!

I have another picture similar to this where DS is looking up at the sky. Years later I asked what was he doing and he said, he was catching snowflakes. I didn’t even notice. I guess a few fell before the storm blew in as you can see this is what was behind me in the next two photos.
Right after this shot, it began to hail on us. If you’ve ever been caught out in it, then you know it’s not fun having pieces of ice hit you.
The storm triggered the foghorn which was ear deafening. Afterwards, a breath-taking rainbow appeared in the sky. Awesome, huh?

We certainly weren’t Dancin’ at the Lighthouse that day but we did a workout racing back to the car.

I shared views from Sand Beach in Acadia National Park last week. I hope you’re enjoying this short travel series.

Join my #WildWednesdays linky party where just about anything goes! The concept for this mid-week blog hop was conceived as I found myself moving farther away from photography and more toward art. Of course, that’s not what this party is about. You’re invited to share anything – artwork, DIY projects, photos, music, musings, randomness, recipes, and more!

I’m linking with these Wordless Wednesday Communities… Sandee, Natasha,  Marie, & Wordless Wednesday!

It’s been a long time for me to join the Wednesday Hodgepodge but I want to get back in to the groove. Here are my responses to Joyce’s questions this week.

1. When is the last time you experienced nostalgia?  I think it was over the summer while going through old photographs to scan just like these pictures I shared with WW.

2. September 29th is National Coffee Day. Do we need this? Ha! So are you a coffee drinker? If so how many cups per day, and tell us how you like it. Is there a recipe you enjoy that calls for coffee as one of the ingredients?  I don’t have to have coffee but I enjoy drinking it each day. I have a 4-cup coffee maker. Normally I have this all to my self but with DH working from home, I share with him. I have some recipes that call for coffee but right now I can’t think what they are or even if I’ve made them. I’m horrible about collecting recipes across the net with the hopes of preparing someday.

3. Do you find praise or criticism to be more motivating? Explain.  Praise is always motivating. Criticism may or may not motivate me. That depends on how well it’s received.

4. What’s a television series you keep coming back to and re-watching?  Right now, there isn’t a series I’m re-watching but in past years a favorite would be the show 24 with Keifer Sutherland. That was an awesome series!

5. As the month of September draws to a close give us three words to describe your mood.  If I have to pick three words right now I’d have to say sleepy because I didn’t get enough rest last night. I’m excited thinking about the cooler weather with expected temperatures at night this week to get chilly and for the fall foliage which is still a ways off. Finally disbelief,  the days continues to continue to evaporate with hardly a trace and so is this year. I’m not sure why I have hard time believing how fast the calendar pages are flying off the wall but it still catches me off guard.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Yesterday, DH & I had dental appointments.  As you know I was a little concerned about mine because it involved possible dental crown damage or worse.  The dentist said he couldn’t see anything wrong for now and when I asked about the abrasion around my crowns, he gave a prescription strength toothpaste. The magic ingredient potassium nitrate to heal those troubled areas.  I’m glad that’s all for now. Hopefully I won’t have any further worries with this. Time will tell. DH’s appointment went smoothly, too. Let’s see if we can stay out of the doctor’s office the rest of the year now. 😉

Another month bites the dust! At the bottom of my post I’m gifting to  you my October calendar page creation to help you stay on top of all of your appointments in the coming new month. 😉 Tomorrow, I’ll be back with a triple play with my Battle of the Bands (BoTB), Rocktober Mewsic Fest (RMF), and a new pencil sketch design for Rain’s Thursday Art Date (TAD).  X💋X💋, Cathy

I know some of the people you know! Woo Hoo! I’m finally getting in with the “in”crowd! hahaha So my grandson eldest grandson came over with my eldest daughter to take me for a ride to get out a bit & for lunch. We went to Portillos for a delicious beef sandwich with peppers (I like green peppers sometimes & today was the day)! Woo Hoo! So until next time my friend thank you so much for stopping by! Be safe, Be healthy and most of all “BE”! Wear that mask and be safe!

      Marie,

How nice of your daughter and grandson to get your out of the house for a joy ride and lunch! 🙂 We do wear our masks while in public. I don’t think you can go in any business without one, especially to a doctor’s office. It really doesn’t make a lot sense for the dentist because 5-minutes after you get in there, then you have to remove it and then you’ve contaminated the inside of your mask. I am not going to put it back over my mouth and nose. Anyway, we’re doing our best to stay safe, my dear. Have a good day!

The photos are lovely. We should be going on a cruise to Canada/New England next year for our 50th wedding anniversary and Bar Harbor is one of the ports of call. The way things are going I don’t know if we will get there though.

I hope next year things will have settled and business opened completely without restrictions. At the onset of the pandemic they said it could take 18 months before it’s over. Our target date for our vacation is late May to early June. That’s just a little more than a year after the pandemic began shutting stuff down so hopefully it’ll be enough time for this virus to settle out. Although people still are getting sick, the number of deaths are dropping in most areas. I’m praying that this mess goes out with old year and stays away!

Dental work is some of my least favorite so glad yours wasn’t anything major. It’s nice to see you back in the HP today! Enjoy your fall weather. It’s a beautiful day here too.

      Jo,

I think everyone feels the same. Going to the dentist is the last thing anyone wants to do. When I was a kid I was terrified of dentists. I had horrible teeth, too. I suffered with really bad toothaches. By the time I was old enough to keep it together there was a lot of damage. Old crowns and bridges are potential trouble spots the longer they remain in your mouth, so I want to keep on top of anything suspicious. Oh how I wish I had had better oral hygiene as a kid but it wasn’t pushed hard enough back in those days. Thanks for the return visit, darlin’!

Your kids were cuties and I am sure they are handsome and beautiful now. We were big fans of 24, he is an amazing actor. Thanks for hosting.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

I’m a little partial but I agree our kiddoes were cuties. 🙂 I wish they’d do a reboot of “24” but I’m sure it won’t be anything like the old series and then I’d get bummed out. They did a reboot several years ago. It was okay but the main guy wasn’t as tough as Jack Bauer which spoiled some of the fun.

I love lighthouses. I never pass them up. What a fun trip and your little ones are adorable.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥

      Sandee,

It was a very fun trip and we saw several nice lighthouses while there in 2004. I’d love to revisit many of the same ones but it would be nice to see some new ones, too. It takes a lot time getting them which eats up a lot of your time, so we’ll see what we can do. We will capitalize on ever opportunity that we can because our vacations are so spread apart.

  • DrillerAA

Great series of images. Love the stormy skies and I can appreciate getting caught in a hail storm. They seem to happen pretty often during early spring in t he Ozarks.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Driller,

Weather makes a scene moody and fun for a photographer. That’s one thing I like about the Blue Ridge Parkway or even higher elevations of the Smoky’s, it can change fast.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! I am relieved to read that all went well for you and DH at the dentist’s office.

It’s wonderful to see that picture of your lovely children in 1997 as your family visited West Quoddy Head Light, the easternmost point in the contiguous U.S. Such spots fascinate me. I remember the thrill of standing on a particular patch of beach in Key West, designated as the southernmost tip of the U.S. Old lighthouses and rocky shores are definitely my thing, Mrs. Shady’s, too. She is already keen on seeing the sights at Acadia Nat’l Park that you showed us in that earlier post about your trip to Maine. We are also interested in visiting Nova Scotia, and I read that you can catch a ferry from that part of Maine over to the Canadian province. You captured excellent pictures of the dramatic sky as that storm front moved in. All types of meteorological phenomena fascinate me and I wish I had been there to experience the invigorating wind, hail and rainbow with a foghorn sounding to complete the experience. The Kim Carnes’ song “Dancin’ At The Lighthouse” is new to me and I enjoyed it. Ironically, in 1997, the same year you visited the lighthouse at West Quoddy, one of my favorite actresses, Naomi Watts, starred in one of my favorite movies, the Australian film Under the Lighthouse Dancing.

I liked your answers to the Wordless Wednesday Hodgepodge. Mrs. Shady and I both consume a lot of coffee every day. Together we drink at least three pots during the morning hours. I make mid afternoon my cut-off time, but she continues with decaf until bedtime. If you like Keifer Sutherland, then I urge you to watch his other TV series Designated Survivor. It lasted only three seasons, but Mrs. S and I loved it. I look forward to seeing the fall leaves you can show me as you get out and about, perhaps back over to the NC mountain towns that you already know are of interest to me.

A triple play tomorrow? I will be here to vote and savor your mewsic offerings and artwork. Have a terrific day, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Although, we couldn’t see it but you’re supposed to be able to see Canada’s shore from West Quoddy. The weather didn’t cooperate exactly right for seeing far distances that day. It’s also an area that’s good for whale watching if I remember correctly. I’m so happy we made every effort at seeing as many of the lighthouses that we could on that vacation. The memories are real treasures! During the day I limit myself to the one small pot of coffee but I could drink more. We started watching Designated Survivor but never finished. We’ll resume with season three at some point. It’s a good show but we like Keifer as Jack Bauer better. “24” is an awesome series!
