Monday's Music Moves Me

A 10-song playlist of Four 80s Bands I don’t remember

Awww Mondays sponsored by Sandee at Comedy Plus

On Thursday, my dentist fixed that chipped tooth I mentioned but in the examination he discovered decay underneath one of my bridges.  This is the bridge I had replaced two years ago.  The surfaces beneath were exposed and unprotected making it easy for bacteria to attack. At my appointment, the bridge will need to be cut away and repairs made to the teeth.  I hope the damage is on the surface.  I hate the thoughts of having implants. Please keep those prayers going!🙏

Okay moving along….here it is the last Monday of the month.  March went by fast, didn’t it?  Alrighty, this week’s theme is whatever music moves you! I’m going fishing in my pool of YT videos saved for times like today.  I built my playlist using four artists from the 80s I don’t remember.  I grouped the songs by artist and the first song of each got my attention.  This song set has the party dance vibe from the era and while I never went clubbing, I sure love movin’ to the music.  Are you ready to get this party started?

Tracks: 1. Under The Influence (VANITY) 2. Pretty Mess (VANITY) 3. 7th Heaven (VANITY) 4. Hooked On You (SWEET SENSATION) 5. If Wishes Came True (SWEET SENSATION) 6. Don’t Make A Foo Of Yourself (STACEY Q) 7. Two Of Hearts (STACEY Q) 8. Don’t Break My Heart (STACEY Q) 9. Operator (MIDNIGHT STAR) 10. No Parking On The Dance Floor (MIDNIGHT STAR) 10.

This is a music link up.  Your 4M party hostess are now featured in my right side menu near the top.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Themes aren’t mandatory to gain access to the dance floor but failure to meet the basic guideline (post must contain music) puts your URL in danger of being labeled – NO MUSIC.

💫This month’s spotlight dancer is Ramblin’ with AM!💫

For curious minds, I wanted to let you know that I will not take part in the A to Z Challenge next month.  Perhaps next year will be a better time. I want to give special thanks to Alana for coming up with two excellent music prompts.  What a pal! It’s not too late to submit ideas for the dance party and there’s no commitment to fill in as honorary co-host this year.  Suggestions are greatly appreciated and credit will be given to anyone who contributes.

Watch for my latest edition of my Maine photo memories to publish on Wednesday. This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

OMC Granny doesn’t remember these songs, but she remembers Vanity 6, the same Vanity…MOL….from the early 80ties and she had something to do with Prince. Nasty girl was a hit, and that is the only song we remember🙈 We love the quote, that is so true and Snoopy sure knows how to say goodbye to a peep March😸Healing Pawkisses on your tooth issues and hope there’ll be a way to save them🙏🐾😽💞

    Hello sweet sunshine,
We are in the same boat with our teeth-exactly the same story here too. I’ll need an implant too of a bridge – a very old one at that. I’ve been postponing it for too long but now have no other choice but to dive in. Keep the healing angels close to you when you go through the procedure, love.

I adore Snoppy and love that image.

I have some Brain Fever ticking in my neck of woods, take a look. 😉

    Hugs and love

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Natasha,

Oh my implant work needed! DH has four or five implants. I know that’s not only expensive but time consuming and nerve racking. I’m praying for a better outcome than I first thought. My dentist is going to try to fill the part of my teeth with decay without removing the bridge. I’m still stupefied how this happened only within the last two years nonetheless. That’s when I had my very old bridge replaced. It was porcelain and metal. I wanted to get away from the metal because of sensitivity issues and what ever other unknowns it was causing. In hindsight, I wonder if I did the right thing now faced with this problem. Oh well…I won’t be so quick to get the other bridge replaced anytime soon. 🙂 Thanks for joining the party. Have a boogietastic week!

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

My favorite was the last song. I also liked a couple of the Stacey Q songs. I knew absolutely none of these singers/groups, maybe because I’m not a clubber, either. Never have been. Nor am I a fan of dental work, which reminds me, I find out Thursday exactly what they need to do to one of my bottom teeth. (Isn’t hurting but something needs to be done). I’m preparing my wallet with a good pep talk and some tunes. I feel some of your pain in the meantime. Alana ramblinwitham

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

I’m sorry to hear you also have dental issues. We seem to neglect that part of our healthy care all too often. I hope your problem is easily fixed and not so costly in the process but everything related to dental care is expensive. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me!

      Mimi,

Ahhh, you’re so sweet! It’s so nice to spend a few minutes with you at the start of every week and I’m delighted you enjoy coming by to see what I share. 😉

  • Brian

I totally agree with you, I don’t know those bands either. Prayers for an easy dental thing. Our Dad has 5 implants so he knows what you are talking about.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Ooo, 5 implants! DH has about the same as your dad. I’m lucky I don’t have any yet. I spoke with my dentist coordinator to see if this bridge falls under a warranty but unfortunately because it’s not a faulty bridge but restorative work to the teeth then there isn’t any warranty. However, the dentist did say he would first try to make the repairs without cutting away the bridge. If that works then it will save us a lot of money. We’ll see how things go. My appointment is set for the end of April.

    • Birgit

How these songs bring back memories. I wouldn’t buy her records but it was fun to listen to. I love the quote but sorry to hear about your teeth. I hope it’s not too bad. I hate the dentist.

      • Cathy Kennedy

        Birgit,

Going to the dentist isn’t my favorite thing to do but it’s not his fault. Had I taken better care of my teeth as a kid then maybe I wouldn’t have these problems. I certainly wouldn’t have lost the teeth which required a dental bridge in the first place not to mention the fillings beneath it. We stressed to our kids the importance of brushing, flossing, blah-blah-blah. We never had to take the kids to the dentist, other than not having straight teeth, they had no signs or problems of decay. They are adults still with no fillings. This is one thing they took heed to and followed our advice. I’m really glad that they did, too. 🙂

  • XmasDolly aka Marie

Hello my southern Sista!!! I was missing you so I decided to come over and see what you were up too! What’s the matter? Don’t you like me no more? 🙁 I’m sure that’s not true. You don’t have a unliking bone in your body! I’ve been missing you lately. I haven’t heard from you or talked to you lately. Well, I had to move again because this company kept hounding me to pay for my location/and they said I couldn’t keep my name & I had to pay for it, but our friend Sandee got me outta there and legally, so if you come & visit you’ll see where I’m at and where I’ll be staying! I miss you, my dearest friend and yes, you’re also like my lil’ sista because you took good care of me when I needed it. To have two such great friends I’m the richest girl in the world. I pray every night for such two great friends! I’m the luckiest girl in the world. Love you dear friend, truly I do! Never doubt that….. EVER! I’ll send you an email soon to let you know what happened. I will tell you one thing so everyone will know… there’s this company that was hounding me telling me I could NOT have my name, “XmasDolly”, cuz someone else had it already so they wanted me to pay! HOGWASH I SAYS… So anyway, I’m through with those maroons, hahahaha!!! Hugs!!!! Hope you’re having a great day! Loved booging with you! HUGS, MARIE

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Oh you’re so silly! Of course, I like you!! Why wouldn’t I? I came by your blog yesterday but your post wasn’t published yet. I got busy yesterday and forgot to try again. I did find it up this morning, though. I’m happy Sandee is helping you with your blog. I know you’re excited about being back in Blogosphere. Thanks for visiting, my dear!

  • csuhpat1

Sending positive thoughts on your upcoming dental work. I do remember these songs and artists as they were from when I was super into music. Very nice playlist.

  • Stacy Uncorked

Oh maaaaan! Sorry about the impending dental work – I can empathize, I’ve been putting off calling the dentist after I chipped a small chunk out of one of my molars, then recently a small piece came right out of the back of one of my front teeth (both times while eating soft foods, no less!) My hubby keeps asking if I’ve called the dentist yet – I haven’t, but you inspire me to do so. Keeping you in my prayers that they’re able to address the issues from your bridge and that you don’t have to get implants! Hugs to you!

80s music is one of my favorite eras (is eras the right word here?) At any rate, thanks for the throwback introduction to Vanity – while I love 80s music, I never heard of her! I know, right?!! 🙂 Thanks for the dance, Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Stacy,

Yes, do call your dentist. The longer you put it off, the more expense and inconvenience it’ll cause you. I have a lot of filling, crowns, and two bridges. My concern is as I age how well will my filled teeth handle the stress of chewing. It seems my teeth are more fragile than they used to be. Getting older brings some undesirable changes.

  • DrillerAA

Well, that was a fun playlist, but I can see why we don’t remember most of these artists. The electronics of much of the 80’s music doesn’t age well. Have a blessed week.

  • Sandee

Prayers that your teeth can be saved and no implants. I’ve issues with my teeth too. Trying to keep them is a challenge at times. I’m old.

    Love your playlist.

I posted Marie’s MMMM just a few ago. The one she had ready he deleted and she did another one. I cleaned it up and posted it.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks for the prayers, Sandee. I’m glad Marie has you helping her. I did visit her first thing yesterday but her post wasn’t there and wasn’t able to return again till this morning. She’ll get the hang of things if she keeps at it. 🙂

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy paw-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DJ had a nice weekend.

Awww… I just wanna smooch my pal Snoopy on the kisser! I like his meme. Even if you hadn’t posted it. I was going to remark that this year seems to be off to a faster start than any in memory. It’ll soon be April and, as my current post reminds, us, there aren’t very many shopping days left before Christmas. 🙂

I’m very sorry to hear that you suffered a disappointment at the dentist’s office. I hope the problem can be fixed with a simple and affordable procedure. I will keep those prayers coming.

I like your 80s playlist. The opening song by Prince protégé Vanity, “Under The Influence,” approached the top 5 on the Dance chart in 1986, The video is one that I have used on my own blog and one that was a big hit with viewers of the MTV station where I worked at the time. “Pretty Mess” was released as a single two years earlier and made a run at the top 10 on that same survey. “7th Heaven” is an uncharted single from the OST of the 1985 film The Last Dragon. “Vanity” (Denise Matthews) was leader of Vanity 6, the sexy group assembled by Prince. Following her success as a recording artist and sex symbol, Denise left the business and turned to religion, but died young in her 50s as a result of kidney problems brought on by years of drug addiction. As such, hers is one of the many sad stories in the history of popular music.

I am also familiar with the Bronx-based freestyle dance trio New Sensation because their vids, including the one for the first song, “Hooked On You,” were heavily requested by viewers of my music video station:

The pretty ballad “If Wishes Came True” is a chart-topping hit single from Sweet Sensation’s 1990 album Love Child.

California dance-popper Stacey Q was another very popular artist among the viewers of my station. In 1988, her song and hit video for “Don’t Make a Fool of Yourself” went top 5 on the Dance chart. I have used, or will use, Stacey Q videos at Shady’s Place, including “Two Of Hearts,” a 1984 release that matched the performance of “Don’t Make a Fool of Yourself” on the Dance survey. In addition, the catchy, danceworthy number crossed over to the top 3 on the U.S. Pop chart and reached #1 in Canada. Stacey’s “Don’t Break My Heart” is a song from her debut 1983 album Better Than Heaven.

Once again, the videos for “Operator” and “No Parking” by the electro-funk band Midnight Star from Kentucky were both huge hits played often on my MTV station, and I have run both vids over the years at Shady’s Place.

I’m delighted that you appreciated these tunes and artists so much when you discovered them that you saved them for a rainy day and presented them to us this morning. They are among my all time favorite dance songs and videos. I will be over to see you Wednesday and tag along on your trip through Maine. My current post runs until Saturday and I hope you can stop over. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Good morning, Tom! We must’ve passed each other other as we made our perspective visits. The dental repair won’t be cheap but we can manage it. DH has dental insurance, so we won’t be out the total cost and for that I’m thankful. I doubly thankful that we keep some extra in reserve for times like this. You never know when you need the money for these sorts of things. I’m dreadful of the process. It’s was a devil to cut the old bridge out two years ago and this new one is made of tougher material. I’ll survive and be happy once it’s done. My appointment is set for the end of April with my name on a cancellation waiting list should something open sooner.

I’m glad you enjoyed the music. I thought perhaps it was you who introduced Vanity to me but I couldn’t swear to it at the time that I started this post. I did read a little about Denis Matthews aka Vanity substance addiction and conviction to move close to God again before her life came to an end in her 50s. It really is sad to read of such needless deaths brought on by poor decisions in many artists’ lives. I don’t like that feeling of being out of control. There’s only been a few times that’s happened to me and both incidents happened while in the hospital as pain meds were administered. That’s when I told the nurse to not give me anything that strong again. I’d rather deal with some pain instead of feeling loopy.

Thanks for dropping by. I’ll see Wednesday. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!
