Hometown, USA songs

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

I grew up in McDowell county in southern West Virginia. This is home of the Rocket Boys from Homer Hickam’s memoirs portrayed in the 1999 motion picture October Sky.

Are you ready to boogie? Lace up your blue suede shoes. It’s time to dance. This week’s theme is “Hometown, USA” Tell us where you are from and post your hometown bands, artists, or songs.

I have been away from home for 35 years. Needless to say, I do not know what local musicians are getting their groove on, but here are few artists/songwriters I grew up with who are still doing what they love!

To learn more about Clinton, click here.

Tony Vance was in DH’s graduating class, just like Clinton. You may remember me telling you Tony sang at our wedding. He has a singing style very similar to David Gates. Here he is singing solo.

A couple of years back, I shared that Tony plays with the contemporary Christian rock group The 5 Man Jesus Band, if not take a listen to these boys jamming for the Lord!

Show some love, Facebook Like The 5 Man Jesus Band!

There are other musical talents from back in the day, but these two are the only ones I know who are keeping the music alive. I would love to hear from friends telling me what’s going on with who!

Here’s an interesting tidbit for ya! Did you know, according to Wikipedia Christian pop artist/songwriter Michael W. Smith and Country music singer Brad Paisley are from the wild, wonderful state of West Virginia? Not me! Isn’t that cool?

One of my all-time favorite songs about wild, wonderful West Virginia is from a Rocky Mountain high folks artist. Come on sing along with me….

Before I go, I wanted to say, although I didn’t grow up in Knoxville it’s very much my new hometown after 35 years. That being said, allow me to introduce to you local talent Jason Terry.

Did you have a good time on the dance floor? I did. Why not show some blog love? Invite your friends to join the 4M crew now. There’s always room for one more!

Puritan's Pride Vitamins
Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me with Marie from Xmas Dolly,  head conductor and helping her to make sure things runs smoothly on the Love Train are co-conductors: Lorie from The Shewbridges of Central Florida, CALLIE from JAmericanSpice, and Stacy from Stacy Uncorked!

I love rockin’ on Mondays! I just love it when we can share the tunes rolling around inside our noggins, don’t you? There’s always a lot of music locked away just screaming to get out.

This week’s theme is “Songs played at your wedding (or the year of your wedding). If not married your favorite song when you were 21“.

DH and I married June 9, 1979 at Summitt Missionary Baptist Church in rural West Virginia where we attended. This is so retro, I know. Here’s to the couple!

Robin’s close friend, Tony Vance, (they were in a band together) song these two Bread songs at our ceremony.

Robin doesn’t play the drums anymore, but Tony still plays guitar and sings. He now jams for the Lord. Rock on, Tony! He’s the dude wearing glasses and a brown t-shit singing lead. Check out the video…

Cyber Party Monday w/Q&A plus music

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Let’s kick-off the work week with a little crazy fun.  Below, you’ll find my participation in two cool memes:  Meet Me On Monday and Monday’s Music Moves Me.  Be sure to click on the meme buttons, if you want to link up to be included in the blog hop on a larger scale or simply play along with me.  The weekend is over, but anytime is a good time for a party.  A party this is that wholesome, clean fun. You’re invited to a cyber party Monday!

Today, Java asks…

1. What jewelry do you wear 24/7?  The only jewelry I wear 24/7 is my wedding band & engagement ring.  I like keeping it simple.

Our hands 1979

2. Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?  I do a combo of cutting and twirling. Twirling is more fun than cutting up the noodles, but it’s also messier.

3. How many siblings do you have?  I’m the oldest of four with two younger brothers (one adoptive brother) and one sister.

Me holding baby sister, Pamela, & JC

Boone, Pamela, & JC

4. Were you named after anyone?   My grandma always told me I was named after her good friend, but my mother says I wasn’t named after anyone.
5. Coke or Pepsi?  I like both colas, but if I had to pick only one then it would be Coke.

Next up…..Photobucket

Last week, I discovered this cool Monday meme.  Music really moves my soul and my feet. {Big cheesy smile}  Anywho, let see what tunes I care to bring to this Rock n’ Roll Monday.  Almost 32 years ago by my husband’s good friend, Tony Vance, sang this song at our wedding.  He has a voice very much like David Gates.

Today, Tony still plays music. He’s a member of the 5 Man Jesus Band. As luck would have it, they have a YouTube video features him singing lead playing guitar.  This is the first time I’ve heard him perform with his Christian band and I have to say, they totally rock for the Lord.  Let’s give up for 5 Man Jesus Band!

Isn’t this incredible?  I couldn’t resist sharing this video of a friend jamming for the Lord.  Okay, it’s your turn.  What songs fill your soul this Monday?
