Drops of Jupiter #BOTB showdown

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Happy June 1st, kittens and dawgs!  I’m a fly by the seat kinda gal, as you know and I don’t have a song title to feature in my battles until days before I roll out my post. I look for inspiration that surrounds me in the moment and I found just that with summer’s unofficial kick off this past weekend.

Normally, my song selection is a retro tune done by current or more recent artists/bands. However, I’m going to go in reverse in Drops of Jupiter #BoTB showdown.

Pat Monahan, lead singer of Train, wrote today’s BoTB song choice after the passing of his mother in 1998 from lung cancer. From Monahan’s healing process flowed the lyrics for Drops of Jupiter.

Now that she’s back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there’s time to change, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Now that she’s back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey
She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo
Reminds me that there’s room to grow, hey, hey

Now that she’s back in the atmosphere
I’m afraid that she might think of me as plain ol’ Jane
Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the milky way
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind
Was it everything you wanted to find
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you’re wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me

Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way

And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall from a shooting star
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

The words are beautifully airy touching my senses with the essences of summer. I’m sharing for your reference and pleasure only Train’s original cut.

Okay, Train is what I call a current artist/band. A few other artists covered Drops of Jupiter, which I was sorta surprised to find out and a couple of them are retro artists.

The contenders are Judy Collins VS Eddie Money.  Listen and decide who gets your vote!

[socialpoll id=”2363254″ path=”/polls/2363254″ width=”500″]

Who did you pick Judy Collins or Eddie Money? There’s no right or wrong vote, except for a no vote. After you vote, if you have time then we’d all love to know what made your artist choice your favorite.

The fun continues with more epic battles underway; I invite you to visit, Stephen, for a complete list of BoTB players and a special thanks to the brain child of this music meme, Fae.

I will share the results of this competition a week from day, so mark your calendar and stop by to see if your pick gets named! Thanks for joining in on the fun and I hope you’ll hop back over a little later today for my newest edition of Not-so-Wordless Wednesday. This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with have a bandtastic day!

June has vanished like a snap of the finger. I’m feeling refreshed from my little hiatus, but  just a bit out of sorts on what today’s theme. Hey, that doesn’t bother me, though. I know it’s all about the tunes and none of us are music snobs here. Without further ado, let’s get this party celebration on!

Before you leave, I’d like to share one last song. It’s not a dance song. My MIL sang this to our children when they were small. Why she did, I can’t tell you. It doesn’t matter they loved listening to their her voice.

Last Monday, we laid her to rest and I’m certain the angels sang this very tune, as they carried her home. God-bye, Dorothy! You’ll be missed, but I know you’re in heaven. What a spectacular reunion it must have been for you on the other side. You were a wonderful mother to me and I love you! Thanks, dear friends for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. They were very much felt and appreciated. Please continue to keep my sweet FIL lifted up. He really needs them.

WW: Summertime fun

Summertime fun is being shared with the other Skywatch Friday contributors.  (Nikon D7000 with attached 18-105mm Nikkor lens)

I captured this image in July 2012 after I got my big girl camera. I altered the photo using Fotor editor applying the horizontal tilt-shift effect taking the eye to the kayaks across the water.

Another of my firsts is this close up shot….

The First Day of Summer and Silly Love Song seems right for 4M freebie picks!

I am so happy to co-host the best virtual dance party in Blogosphere with my lovelies XmasDolly, JAmericanSpice, Stacy Uncorked, and this month’s honorary co-host.

This week’s Monday’s Music Moves Me edition, we’re partying to “freebie” picks.  That’s right, whatever tunes are getting your groove on then we want to hear them right here!

My brain has been so wasted for months. First from being so sick and then from the recovery process (pain meds) that I let the first day of summer slipped in undetected. Geez! Every day is a step toward a healthier, newly improved me who’s so ready to get rocking again with life.  While most of the reason I’m moving at a snail pace to get dancing this morning is due to my brain fog, the other thing that had me slow on the take is I went for my post-op appointment with my surgeon and GI doctor. I got a terrific report from both! Yee-haw!

Funny, this song popped in my head at the last moment and I had to put it up.

The previous song mentions “hot summer nights”. It was a scorcher today! Phew, I’m happy to be back home cooling down. You know whenever I think of summer, this song always pops in my head. I don’t know why. Actually, yes I know why because it reminds me of when I was a teenager. In the mid-70s this song played on the airwave two or three summers back to back frequently or so it seemed. When I hear this tune, I always think of the of my summer vacation in ’76 that I spent with my uncle and his wife in Ohio. What flashbacks does this song draw for you?

Are you ready to get started? Admission to this awesome dance party is totally doable. Just grab XmasDolly…well not XmasDolly, but her button here and display it somewhere on your blog and put up your favorite YouTube video (you’ll find the weekly musical themes posted in her sidebar) for everyone to enjoy.

Now link up and shake your bootie with the rockin’ bloggers below. Oh yeah, if you wanna put a smile on someone’s face today then be sure to leave a comment!

See you Monday WOO HOO!!!
