Saturday Songsuasion #JakeOwen & Sillies #BadLipReading #s-ART-urday summer magic

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! How was your work week? Mine about average. It’s hard to get things done in the evenings, but DH and I are making headway at tackling chores that need our attention. Wouldn’t it be grand, if we had all the money in the world to do whatever we want, when ever we wanted? Yep, it sure would! I heard a song recently, which resonates these sorta sentiments.

Florida born Jake Owens must have thought his destiny lied in professional golf, but a wakeboard accident in college left him unable to return to the sport. What a bummer! However, while recuperating from reconstructive surgery Jake taught himself to play a neighbor’s guitar. I always wanted to learn. My hands are too small, though. Any who, his first gig was playing at a campus bar where he eventually became a regular performer and began writing his own songs.

Owen moved to Nashville like most serious artists do to pursue his dreams. To make a long story short the ice breaker for his career came when a bank teller asked for one of his CDs who then sent it to Warner/Chapell Music publishing company. They didn’t give him a contract, instead it opened the door for Jake to meet Jimmy Ritchey, record producer/songwriter and with his collaboration along with songwriter, Chuck Jones wrote Ghosts. The song was written for Kenny Chesney, but he never recorded the track. However in 2005 the song drew Nashville executives attention from Sony BMG who did sign Owen under their RCA label.  Owen’s music hit the Country charts throughout the years, but it wasn’t until 2011 that he got his #1 hit with his third album and lead title song.

I like Jake’s new clean, cut image. I think he’s more attractive below than with the long locks in these vids, but I find this true of all men.

Are you familiar with Jake Owen? Do you have a favorite song? Are you a new-country music fan?  Interesting tidbit: Did you know Jake has a twin brother? It’s true. They aren’t identical, so I know they couldn’t blame the other for things gone wrong very easy. lol

Speaking of twins, I went to school with identical twin boys ~ Ronnie and Donnie. The first time I met them I had no clue. It was like I did a double take…”Didn’t I just see you see you going the opposite way?”  It took me half the school year to figure out the difference between the brothers and they were full of mischief all throughout our school years. I wonder what became of them? Hmmm, oh well this morning country music inspiration came from a funny video DH showed me earlier in the week. I know you die-hard Avenger fans (you don’t have like Marvel comics to enjoy this) are gonna love it!

Other than this vid, what made you laugh last? Do you have giggles to share?

#HandsOfTime Songsuasion/Sillies & s-ART-urday

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good morning, kittens & dawgs! I stumbled upon this morning’s artist when I went in search of songs with a particular theme. I knew after hearing a few bars it was worthy of my time to keep listening.

Groove Armada (new-to-me) sounds like a cool name, but Groove isn’t just a person. Groove Armada is a two person electronic band formed by Andy Cato and Tom Findlay from London, England. This music style in itself isn’t something I listen to normally, but set with the right voice and lyrics then it holds promise like with Richie Havens Hands of Time.

Normally, I stick with a single artist, but this morning I’m going with a song message on #HandsOfTime Saturday Songsuasions/Sillies & s-ART-urday!

Rachel Diggs is another new find. I think she’s an uncharted singer and has recorded two albums. I don’t know anything about the rest of her music, but she has a song bearing the name of my theme and after hearing it I wanted to share it.

Hey Rach, you might want to expand your reach with Facebook and Twitter. Just a saying.

Next up is my last artist discovery who has a matching song title. It has a kind of techno electric sound to it, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting to you feet with this one. I present to you  Hellberg & Rich Edwards (ft. Jonny Rose)!

I did a little digging. Hellberg (Stockhom) & Rose (USA) are musicians, and Edwards (Sweden) is a producer. Hellberg is making a place for himself in the industry. He brags (and rightfully so) of 1M music downloads (I’m not sure, if it’s with this song or not). That sounds awesome to me. The cool thing is social media and the internet unlocked the hidden talent like these I featured today from around the world for our discovery. Thanks to technology, reaching one’s dreams is a little easier now.

Tell me, which Hands of Time song did you like the best?

Okay, I haven’t forgotten. It’s time for your weekly dose of humor. There’s nothing like a good belly laugh or at least a big smile to make you feel better.

Today’s artwork is a mash-up of two of my original photos (using Pixelmator) ~ the moon (used in two previous creations) and mountains. I borrowed the image of the clock face, here, and the quote is from the Medium TV series season 5 episode 10. Join Claudia for another edition of #s-ART-urday!

3-for-1 Saturday Special: Songsuasion/Sillies & s-ART-urday #ToveLo

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

The Swedish born singer/songwriter, Tove Lo, rose to fame in 2013 with “Habits (Stay High)” and hit the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in April of last year ranking #3 on the list. She is the highest charting Swedish singer since Ace of Base #1 song “The Sign” in 1994. I invite you to enjoy one of the best Tove YouTube song compilations this morning!

Thanks for visiting, kittens & dawg! I hope the weekend and the people in your life are treating you right. I mentioned the A2Z challenge caused me to question the direction of blogging. You did get that from an earlier post, didn’t you? One thing I decided to change is my weekend posts. I make time to take time off in Blogosphere even though I schedule posts, but everyone needs a day off. So, starting now my Sunday posts are suspended, as I roll that opportunity into one with the launch of 3-for-1 Special: Saturday Songsuasion/Sillies & s-ART-urday!

Bear with me, as I figure out a new blogging routine that makes me happy and hopefully you, too.

My sillies this weekend is honor of dear Mom!

Things Mom Would Never Say

  • “How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back?”
  • “Yeah, I used to skip school a lot, too”
  • “Just leave all the lights on … it makes the house look more cheery”
  • “Let me smell that shirt — Yeah, it’s good for another week”
  • “Go ahead and keep that stray dog, honey. I’ll be glad to feed and walk him every day”
  • “Well, if Rahul’s mamma says it’s OK, that’s good enough for me.”
  • “The curfew is just a general time to shoot for. It’s not like I’m running a prison around here.”
  • “I don’t have a tissue with me … just use your sleeve”
  • “Don’t bother wearing a jacket – the wind-chill is bound to improve”

With Mother’s Day tomorrow, I wanted to created some really special for my mom!

Project 4: Join Claudia this week for another addition of #s-ART-urday!

It goes without saying, Dahhh, these images weren’t snapped by me! I don’t know who was behind the camera. Let’s not worry over that for the moment. I used two vintage photos, I will display those in a moment, for creating my new masterpiece and I thanks to Obsidian Dawn for the free-use of the cool light beam brush tool!

I used this picture for my image background. Yes, that darling little girl is me. 😉

CathyAge3

In the below photo all I wanted was my mom’s image, so I used the Photoshop Elements lasso select tool to pluck her image right out of the picture like magic.

Mom&Minda copy

Merging two photos together is tricky, especially when the lightening is slightly off. I add Mom to the foreground framing the left side and placing me in the background. I applied PS Elements clone stamp tool to blend the trouble spots around Mom’s head where the light was obviously brighter. I touched up a few scratches using the PS Elements spot healing brush. The addition of the cool Light Beam brought the whole picture together.

PROJECT 4 Mom&Me 1963_beamw:Pixlrframe

I loaded my finished PS Elements image to AutoDesk Pixlr to apply dirt frame.

Which photo-art image do you like the best?

That’s a wrap for this week. I hope you enjoyed your visit and I appreciate you including me in your weekend. Feel free to invite your friends to stop in to enjoy the artwork, listen to the music, and to have a few giggles. It’s a great feeling to share! Have a songsational Saturday!

#SaturdaySongsuasion Daydream #TheLovin’Spoonful

During the British Invasion two Long Island rockers, Steve Boone and Joe Butler, got together with two folk artists, John Sebastian and Zal Yankovsky, from Greenwich Village to form The Lovin’ Spoonful.

diltzLVN SPNFLCombining the sound of rock n’ roll with a folksy-country flavor set these Yanks on the charts during the mid-60s with pop hits: Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice, Nashville Cats, and Summer in the City.

In celebration of the first day of  spring, I thought it was fitting to share a song from their album with the same name, Daydream!

#2 on 1966 Billboard Hot 100 List

#SaturdaySongsuasion presents the best of @ColbieCaillat

This morning’s amazing talent hails from Malibu, California as a self-proclaimed singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitarist. She made her debuted album Coco (this is the nickname her parents pinned on her as a baby) in 2007 and popped up on my radar in 2010 sometime after I started blogging.

She did a duet with Jason Mraz in 2008, which earned her a Grammy. Received a nomination for a Grammy as Best Pop Vocal Album in 2010 and won as part of a collective group for Album of the Year for her background vocals and writing on Taylor Swift’s Fearless album.

Selling more than 6 million albums and 10 million singles worldwide, Billboard magazine (in 2009) name her the 94th best-selling music artist of the decade (2000-2009).

Turn up the volume and enjoy the best of the incomparable Colbie Caillat right here on Saturday Songsuasion!

Another good YouTube collection is  The Best of Colbie Caillat (vid no longer available). It has many of the same songs as above, but it’s a nice listen.

Colbie’s recent album Gypsy Heart released last year includes her POP hit, Try. The essences of the song to a girl/woman is, you gotta like yourself the way you are, not the way the world sees you ~ very empowering and positive message!

You can find Colbie on

A little trivia, did you know Colbie tried twice to get on American Idol? The first time, she froze up and couldn’t sing for the judges. The second time, she did an original song Bubbly and AI turned her down for a spot on the show. She blamed shyness and nervous for bombing out but her popularity on MySpace grew her profile to the #1 status for unsigned singers in her genre for 4-consecutive months.

Meme play-along suggestions:

  1. Get my badge code, here, & display on your blog
  2. Feature only one artist any genre
  3. Tell your friends about it ~ Twitter, FB share, …
  4. Join the party & have fun!
