#AtoZChallenge Art Sketching Through the Alphabet Reflections

A word to the A2Z Team…

Before I get started, let me say one thing. Many people didn’t like that there was no linky and felt lost doing so in comments. I was right there with them but I did not allow that to get in the way. I did what I could and maintained a routine of visiting a few before or after me (if interested) and made sure to revisit all those who visited me. This kept me plenty busy.

Here’s a tip for the A2Z team, instead of one big linky like you’ve done for years until now, you may want to consider having a similar link up for each alphabet prompt with theme code key. I think this will help others to not only see who actually is playing along each day but it offers a clear idea to the players of what each blogger is blogging about in the challenge. This is my suggestion to you and regardless of what you choose to do next year, I plan to join the fun. 😉

My A to Z Reflections

It all began in February when I started thinking about the April challenge. At first, I thought I’d continue with last year’s theme on All Things Vintage but my heart just wasn’t into it and I began to second guess joining this round.  But, then just like that, an idea sparked my enthusiasm to make the journey through the alphabet with art sketching as my theme.

My plan

With my theme in mind, I began my illustrations immediately. I didn’t want my art sketches to appear like a drawing class. I’m neither qualified or skilled to do that sort of thing. I decided to share my finished inspired illustrations for each daily alpha-prompt offering reference sites or images for others. My artwork included people, animals, and things. Whatever moved me, I sketched it.

Sketching new pictures each day didn’t need any motivation, I became enthralled with my project completely all 26 letters in the alphabet before April 1st with images uploaded and posts created, an accomplishment I’m proudly achieved in my 4th year of the A to Z Challenge for the first time.

What I learned

Following the step-by-step instructions, I felt like a diamond in the rough and the potential I had only needed polishing. Why I couldn’t see this in me years ago is beyond me but I honestly believed it had everything to do with low self-esteem.  Luckily, DH brings out the best in me and over the years I’ve gone to that girl with no confidence to a girl who can go anything! Isn’t it amazing what you can do when you believe in yourself?

Future goals

Every day of the challenge I saw the possibilities of where my new art passion can lead.  One thing I hope to do is to finish a children’s story inspired by my late brother when he was a little boy and to complete the story with my illustrations.  I shelved the idea years ago because it needed pictures and I didn’t feel comfortable to draw them. Pushing myself to sketch for the A to Z Challenge gave me the confidence needed and I’m ready to step my game up.

I have plans to continue drawing and experimenting various techniques and mediums. The free resources available online to learn how to draw is amazing.  I will share the good and not-so-good with you.  This will be an experience we can share together because if it weren’t for you folks and DH then I don’t know if I’d be taking this bold step. Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll see you in 2018 for the April A to Z Challenge! 😉

Did you follow my month-long art sketching journey?  Any last suggestions for my next sketch project?

2016 #AprilA2Z Reflections

Good-morning, kittens and dawgs! First of, I want to say thank you to all of my faithful readers. You made it all well worth the effort. Looking back on last month’s escapades I see room for improvement. There I admit I have flaws. Who knew right?

I started off strong with more than two weeks worth of posts scheduled, I kept up with commenting on the comments, making return visits, and leaving comments on visited sites, and then I hit a brick wall. The alphabet caught up with me!

From that point forward I struggled, but I managed to finish the challenge. I swear up and down every year I will write all posts in advance, then life steps in, and blocks my way. All I can say is I’ll keep trying until I get it right. I won’t let this slow me down.

Despite the chaos, I plan to step up to the A2Z plate again next year. That being said, I launched into getting things in order now. Hey, I figured I’d best start now instead of waiting for the 2017 sign up announcement. 😀 Meanwhile, if you’re like me “playing catch up”, then here are all of my A2Z posts for your convenience.

In the spirit of a good things. I honestly had a lot of fun putting together my All Things Vintage posts despite the hair pulling near the end. It was difficult, but I didn’t stress over it. That defeats the fun. There is no place for being stressed in this blog hop unless it’s desserts.

Thanks again to the amazing A2Z team for all their hard work and for making this a blog challenge a huge success. What’s next? Hit the dance floor with me tomorrow for Mewsic Moves Me. Happy blogging, my friend! 😉

iTunes Weekly Top 50 – Pop #music & #AprilA2Z afterthoughts

Good morning, kittens & dawg! I have to admit I could not listen to one of Zara’s albums in its entirety. She’s a talented, cutie pie, but there are only a few female voices I can listen to for long period. That’s all good and fine because today is Freebie pick.  Join me on Monday’s Mewzik Music Moves Me for more iTunes Weekly Top 50 – Pop rock hit songs!

I thought while I have you here listening to my song choices this morning that I’d take a look back on my #AprilA2Z experience with you.  Taking part in a month-long blogging challenge is daunting. This is my third go at it and my second year to finish it back-to-back. First up, congrats to all who made it this time! And second, for your listening pleasure enjoy the groove of the mewzik!

Last year my focus was on photography and this time it was on music.  My initial thoughts on how to approach A2Z was to incorporate my daily song or artist choice in with the things surrounding my life or a memory or my passion for photography.

My idea worked somewhat but in retrospect, I see that some of my posts were missing these personal elements that I feel is what I’m about and instead, you got a post about music. Boring?! Well…I hope not, but on these days I feel the flavor was lost somewhat and was less interesting than if I had spiced it up with pieces of who I am or where my memories took me or what I was doing. How well did you enjoy my personal tidbits mixed in with my daily song/artists feature?

Another thing is, I failed miserably short with visiting other bloggers. I was pretty courtesy in doing return visits but I didn’t take the time to truly explore many new bloggers on the sign-up list. Sure, at first I did okay and then I gradually slipped away from my original intent. Commenting on someone’s comment or visiting someone who stopped by became a daily handful with life going on around me. Did you struggle with these things, too?

One thing I’d like to say to others doing the challenge next year. Please be sure to place your blog in a category even if it doesn’t fit your blog. Give it a  classification.  I felt overwhelmed looking at all the sites on the list with only a few music listings.

The whole A2Z affair gave me a new focus on my blog. It’s not off the mark too much from where I was going and allowed me to sweep away some of the cobwebs in my path. I haven’t decided on resuming daily posts. Maybe, I need to take a step back and post a handful of times per/week.

What are your thoughts? Do you blog every day or every other day or do you have a schedule? How do you keep up with other bloggers’ new posts? By chance or BlogLovin’ or email subscription or some other way? I know personally speaking I am more likely to visit someone after getting a new post email notification and I invite you to join my email list to get my newest mews.

Thanks for sharing this dance and for reading my A2Z musings. Let’s continue the party. If you have tunes to share then link up and join the fun with XmasDolly & company. Have a tunetastic week!

I managed to complete the A-Z challenge this go-around. I felt a bit overwhelmed in the beginning and decided the only way to stay afloat, unlike the Titanic, was to combine this blog hop with my regular scheduled hops.  This really saved the day month for me! Continue reading

The magic of Vanessa Mae

Welcome to week #158!

Today, we are partying to your choice musical theme or better known as “freebie” pick!  I stumbled upon today’s feature artist while listening to The Piano Guys on iHeartRadio when Vanessa-Mae (pronounced in Chinese as Chén Měi) popped up on my radar. Drawin instantly to her style like a bee is to honey. She’s an internationally known British violinist whose music is self-described as a violin techno-acoustic fusion which is prominently featured on several of her albums. If you like instrumental musical music set to rock, then join me on Monday’s Music Moves Me!

Our lovely hostesses, XmasDolly, had to be whisked to the hospital over the weekend. She’s dealing with infection problems.  Kindly keep her in your thoughts & prayers. My Heart is Well Content

A fellow blog writer suggested I turn to HubPages, an online publishing source, to earn money for articles submitted. I followed the lead given and I feel like an infant in this new venture but I thought I’d repost the piece here for you to read that I added to HubPages site and I invite you to read or at least leave a comment there.  😉

My Heart is Well Content

The darkness outside shadows the earth, as my clock beeps at 5 a.m. I automatically rise, walk across the bedroom to kill the blaring alarm, and then I return to my nightstand to turn off the backup clock before it screams at me. This is the start of my day.

As my husband fumbles hand-over-foot out of bed, I resume my morning ritual. In the kitchen, I prepare black liquid fuel to jump-start our day. While the coffee steeps, I busily whip up a delicious energy-packed meal to break my family period of fast.

The house soon fills with the aroma of bacon frying and home-made buttermilk biscuits baking. In these few quiet minutes, an invigorating sensation washes across my mind and I reflect on my life as a stay at home mom. I hear echoes of my daughters’ first words – “DADA”. I replay their first wobbly steps and I remember I was there to scoop them up when the fell. Their happy smiles are like painted treasures in my mind’s eye never to be forgotten and their tears I gladly brushed away. Their sweet laughter fills my heart with unmeasured loved, their arms around my neck forever felt, and their cute wet lips on my face will never dry up.

The morning starts to take shape when my little ones rise to meet the morning sun. Their precious faces never fail to beam through sleepy eyes as they give me good-morning hugs. They act as if they haven’t seen me for days or weeks when it’s only been hours.

There are times when we chase each other through the house on rainy days or we splash each other with water in the warm summer sun. We make melodious music as we sing out loud, often times out of tune. We play make-believe games for hours on end and they like to swing so high until their tiny toes touch the sky. They draw beautiful chalk masterpieces in our drive and make tasty mud pie treats that shouldn’t be eaten. In the back of my mind, I see dishes in the sink and Play-Doh squished beneath my feet, dust bunnies that multiply and watercolors sprayed across my wall. However, I don’t retreat from my post. I maintain on course with our play. Everything else can wait, I decide because I know these days can never be replaced.

And, before I can bat an eye, the day is gone and night-time falls. We, my darlings and I, lay wearily snuggled in their bed. In pint-sized, tired voices, they ask for a bedtime story with their teddy bears by their sides. A hush transpires the room into a lullaby, while droopy eyes stare at the page and as they listen closely to the rhythm of my voice they soon fall asleep.

Tenderly, I tuck the covers beneath their chins and seal a kiss upon each precious head. I stare into the faces of two little angels resting so peacefully in their bed one last time before I extinguish their bear-shaped lamp.  A warmth kindles my soul at the dear image I behold.  In that tranquil moment, thanksgiving floods my heart. I imagine all the memories that would have been lost if I hadn’t been the one to capture each collective thought. I’m blessed to watch my babies grow into small ladies, like new blades of grass in the spring. I am happy that all of my yesterdays have been joyfully spent without regret or dissent. I released a soft breath with these pleasing thoughts as a smile parts my lips. I know these days are mine for the taking and a career outside the home can wait. For now, this is where I belong and my heart is well content.
