Changing Seasons, Coloring Apps, and @LisaJStansfield

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Oh, my Cathy! Can you believe this is the last week of September, Kittens & Dawgs?

Time can tear down a building or destroy a woman’s face
Hours are like diamonds, don’t let them waste
Time waits for no one, no favours has he
Time waits for no one, and he won’t wait for me

Time truly does not wait for no one. Although, I’m NOT looking forward to winter I am happy that it’s autumn again. Our expected forecast for this week will feel like summer but a cooling tread is heading this way by Friday. But, you didn’t tune into the weather channel, did you?

What do you think about the new look of today post spot? I’m changing things a bit. For months I used the adorable kitten in a tea-cup for my Cathy Chats but I love all things feminine and vintage or retro images of women says “Me!”

I don’t think I want to live in the past but there are things about the past I love and that being women being women. In the past 30+ years I’ve seen roles reverse in the sexes with women progressing farther away from their womanhood but that’s my opinion. I know some agree with me and others see it different.

This is my day to get random, even rant without repercussions, right? I can do that with my blog…just saying is all.  Anywho….do you like to color? I do. That’s one of the many reasons why I enjoy rubberstamp art. There are a lot of free resources online where you can download images to color but I discovered a few coloring apps for my iPad that I’m reviewing. I don’t like paying for an app unless I’m confident I’m really going to love it and I’m even less inclined to get the add-ons to the freebies. These are ones I’m using the free version of with no upgrades and I will tell you what I like and don’t.  I’m sharing this with you as one friend to another and this is not a sponsored post. 😉

Color Therapy offers plenty of coloring pages with a limited coloring palette. Every day they make available a free coloring page. It’s more important to me to have a bigger selection of colors than coloring pages.

Pigment offers a lot of different coloring palettes with few coloring pages and various brushes like pencil, marker, airbrush, as well you can choice to fill a complete area of color. The cool thing is you can layer the colors and technique style brush strokes over filled areas. As you can see with the shading I did. This app is best used with a stylus but I don’t have one. It’s an okay program and I certainly plan to keep it on my device because I’m hoping Santa will bring me the Apple Pencil for Christmas. Did you hear that Santa? Just checking. 🙂

Recolor is my favorite of the tree.  It has a nice array of coloring options with daily freebie pages to choice. It has several coloring pages in different categories to use at no charge, too.  In my recent upgrade to iOS 11 I discovered the pages I colored vanished. Either I did something wrong or the upgrade wiped them out. Luckily I can get to most of them again to color again. I can’t complain about this since it’s free. However had I paid for it then I might be a little sore but…I’d also have access to everything to do over anyhow so no harm done and it’s fun to color right?

All three apps use a watermark to identify their program. Color Therapy is a little less intrusive. I don’t like any of them but that’s what you get with the free version and so I can live with it. I noticed Recolor saves the coloring pages as a larger file size than the others. I hope this means the print quality is better.

Do you like to print and color? Yes. I thought so. On The Balance, Stacy Fisher shares Free Printable Coloring Pages for Adults listing several sources.  Color Book Addict  is another site with tons of links to browse for free coloring pages. Finally, I found came across Just Color.  I want to return to these sites when I have more time but wanted to let y’all know about them.

If you’ve read “Curious as a Cathy” for a while then you know mewsic is a big part of my life and I love to share whatever moves me.  For a time I even shared weekly new mewsical discoveries. Time being what it is and I find multi-posts on a single day is not only hard for me but often become over-sights by others.  I figured it best to incorporate my finds in random share such as here which brings me to my point. Yes, I’m a little long wind. Please indulge me. 🙂 While researching song choices for my October 1st BoTB I came across an 80s artist. Her name didn’t resonate with me but  I think the reason is her success fell at the end of the decade and that’s when I entered my early years as a new mother. Do I need to explain further? I didn’t think so. Anywho, I liked her contemporary R&B sound in “My Apple Heart” from 1989 and so I invite you to please listen to Lisa Stansfield.

Stansfield recorded/released her first album Affections the same year from which her top charting global hit, “All Around the World” (#5 on the playlist, beginning 19:35) appeared.

Have you heard of Lisa Stansfield? If so, what songs do you like by her?

This is what the hop hostess says… I got this idea from Glamour magazine. You can link up any day of the week. All you have to do is make a list of what you’re okay about. Simple! Please do not link up a post that has nothing to do with “Hey, It’s Okay”. It’s rude.

It’s okay….

To enjoy the childhood past time of coloring. It’s truly therapeutic plus it takes me back to simpler time. I think I want my mommy! This is definitely a “Hey it’s okay” moment even when you’re 55. Trust me!

To not be in the know about every artist in one’s life. The beautiful thing is discovering new talent is like finding a lost treasure. Do I keep it to myself or http://curiousasacathy.com/2017/09/back-to-school-again/do I share? I always choose the latter.  I hope you enjoyed today’s feature and if you like mewsic, then you may want to hit the dance floor with me on Mondays. Check out yesterday’s Back To School Again mewsic.

To be excited over new iPhone arrival and then disappointed when it doesn’t show. That’s how things went down Friday. DH’s phone arrived. We ordered them on the same day but different invoices because his was showing unavailable and mine wasn’t. Then we got notice his phone prepped for shipping before mine and left the facility via FedEx Knoxville bound. My order processed a couple of hours later, handed off to the carrier but it never left Memphis. There was hiccup somewhere. It finally got in town late Friday afternoon and there was no chance it would deliver even though we remained hopeful of a miracle. It didn’t happen. The online tracking data showed my package never leaving FedEx’s airport destination. Saturday morning my package status was the same. It took calling the 800 number which on the weekends is totally run by an overseas call center. Which is another nightmare in itself. I can’t understand them, they can’t understand me but they are super polite and trying like crazy to help. I finally got someone to tell me my package was in the Knoxville main distribution center but wouldn’t deliver until Monday. DH felt the same disappointment for me as I did. I put on a good front and waved it off the best I could. Things go wrong sometime. We knocked around town a bit when DH said, let’s go by FedEx to try to pick up your phone. The worse thing that can happen is they say, no I can’t do that. A young man greeted us. After checking our tracking info, he reacted with good judgement and common sense. He saw the delay in delivery was FedEx’s bad and went against protocol to get it for us, turning our day completely around! He deserves the “Employee of the Year” award in my opinion. 😀

That’s a wrap for this morning. I’m taking a coffee break with Les from Ink Interrupted for Tuesday Coffee Chat (I’m not sure if she’s returned from her hiatus) and linking with Stacy for Random Tuesday Thoughts . You’re welcome to come with and if not, I hope you’ll come by tomorrow for not-so Wordless Wednesday.

The Best of Ray Parker Jr

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

orGood-morning, kittens & dawgs! I was close to blowing off today’s post but then I realized I had it nearly finished. I’m beginning to think with my return to “normal blogging” I’m taking on more than I can handle.   Okay, I can do this! Really, I can do this! I just need to relax. Breathe. And enjoy!

Things are just about to calm a bit in my life. I think I finally got all my necessary appointments out-of-the-way for this year.  *cross fingers* DH is a different story. He will have regular follow ups probably for many, many months to come.  We’re thinking if his eye surgeon thinks it’s a good idea to wait until next spring to have the surgery needed to remove the oil bubble (from the retina re-attachment process). Dr. P says sometimes the retina will detach after removing the oil bubble so the longer it’s left in then changes are better the retina will not separate. Our concern is his vision as his lens continues to deteriorate. It’s very frustrating for him. Kindly continue to keep him in prayer. Thanks!

We almost witnessed a wipe out on the interstate yesterday. I closed my eyes for a few seconds to catch a little nap on the way home from the store when  scary sound jolted them wide open to see a Hunda slide sideways across three lanes. All I can say, that driver is lucky because there was nothing close to him or us! He recovered avoiding a horrible accident but damage was done to his car. DH said he went up on the concrete medium nearly toppling over before sliding across the highway.  God surely had His hands on that driver and us. I shutter to think about what if traffic had been heavy.

Good grief, can you believe it Friday is the first day of autumn? WOW, this year is scooting by!  This week summer is taking its last stand with temps in the low to mid-80s.  When it’s sunny, THAT’s just too warm to suit me, too! Next week things is forecast to drop the upper 70s for the high.  I always look forward to drinking hot chocolate in the fall but I’ll have to wait a few weeks to enjoy a steaming cup piled high with miniature marshmallows or Readi Wipp.

I think I’ll bake some cookies. Which sounds the best to you, oatmeal raisin, molasses (soft ginger cookie), or chocolate chip? I think all three sound yummy and it’s going to be a tough decision! I know which ever I decide will delight DH (a.k.a. “Cookie Monster”)!

Okay enough random jabbering. It’s time for some mewsic! In Jingle, Jangle,  Jungle’s It’s All in the Name series, she reminded me that Ray Parker Jr is more than the Ghostbusters theme song singer. That being said, here’s a 9 song playlist I created for your enjoyment while you’re visiting this morning or surfing the net.

What Ray Parker, Jr song do you like? Is there another by Parker you like but didn’t make my playlist?

It’s okay….

  • to just stare at the sky looking for cool shapes in the clouds. It’s wonderful to take time to enjoy the simple things and to be a kid again. We get too busy in our grown up world to celebrate the beauty all around us.
  • to look forward to all things autumnish – baking, falling leaves, pumpkins, cinnamony scents, nippy temps, cozy fleece socks, and snugly sweats.
  • that I’m excited about getting my new iPhone. Mine is four years old. I’m afraid to upgrade to iOS 11 today because of its age and I’m certain it’ll put a huge drag on everything making it impossible to open apps properly. Also, at this stage the battery is squirrely not holding a good charge sometimes dropping sharply. One day it completely died while I  was running errands leaving me without a convenient way to communicate.

That’s a wrap for this morning. I’m hopping over to Stacy’s for Random Tuesday Thoughts and I’m going to check in with Les from Ink Interrupted for her “Tuesday Coffee Chat” link up but I’m not sure she’s back in the groove yet. You’re welcome to come with if you want. I hope to see you  back tomorrow for my mid-week fun with not-so Wordless Wednesday and the recent return of Way Back Wednesdays!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Take That

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! Between hurricane Irma and remembering 9/11 on the dance floor Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning? left me in a somber mood yesterday.

We have a number of good friends and family who live in Florida who are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.  Irma took a different path than originally expected. Naples got hit hard and we have dear friends who have a home there. They’re safe. That much I do know but we don’t know about their home yet and I guess it’ll days before we do.

The 16th anniversary of 9/11 always leaves me in a thoughtful state. I never want to forget there are people who hate America, not only outside our country but within making our way of life vulnerable. We must protect our rights and to stand against the evil!

By the name of my blog title you probably think I have a beef with someone but I don’t. Take That is the name of today’s featured artist which I hope you’ll lend your ear for a listen. Blog bud, Lee, shared this group with me in his Sept. 1st BoTB post (song #4, The Flood) and I thought I’d introduce them to you with this massive playlist I found on YouTube.

I couldn’t believe this British pop band has been around since the late 80s but that explain a lot since I was a new mother. Anywho, their first ever top 40 hit came out in 1995  (Promises #5) and I admit while listening to this playlist some of the songs sounded familiar. I guess somewhere in my sleep deprived mind in their early years I probably heard some of their tunes. 🙂

Today, I want to talk more about what I did during my blogging break this summer. I did more than just tweak things on my blog. I actually did some sketching. If you’re new here then it may interest you that I used Art Sketching for my A to Z theme this past April and if you’re curious you can check out my Reflections post.

For Father’s Day, I drew DH a lighthouse scene. I liked the way it turned out and used the same idea for my daddy’s birthday in July but for my daddy’s Father’s Day card I drew a little girl with her daddy. 🙂

I hurriedly sketched daddy’s card due to time restraints. Silly me let things slip up too quickly unprepared. I hope to doodle another similar creation in my sketch pad soon.

This is daddy’s bday card. After experimenting with DH Father’s Day card I made a few design improvements if you can call it that.

Drawing landscapes is a harder job than expected, especially when adding details. I intrigued to learn how to get the shading down to make water, rocks, and trees more realistic. I certainly will do more scenes like this, though. Stay tune!

I’ve doodled some other sketches but I find I keep going back to them from time to time to touch them up.  I tried beginning artwork for my children’s book but I didn’t get far.  I think I pushed myself too soon, instead of just relaxing and having fun with it. One thing I discovered during the April challenge is I had the best success in creative energy when I removed pressure to do it.  This is a hobby for my amusement and I’m content to draw as the my mood dictates.

This is what the hop hostess says… I got this idea from Glamour magazine. You can link up any day of the week. All you have to do is make a list of what you’re okay about. Simple! Please do not link up a post that has nothing to do with “Hey, It’s Okay”. It’s rude.

Here’s my list of things I’m okay with….

That 9/11 moves me to tears every time I hear mewsic paying tribute to that fateful day.

To remember the horrors of that day because by not forgetting we can safeguard against the past repeating itself.

To take a nap during the day. This doesn’t happen often but when I’m tuckered out then I know a 20-40 minute nap is just the trick needed to fix me up.

To draw as the mood hits or while waiting for DH’s at an appointment which is an excellent use of time.

To experiment with post content and meme participation. Going through my post archives this summer I realized I’m missing something and want to get it back.

That’s a wrap for this morning. I’m hopping over to Stacy’s for Random Tuesday Thoughts . I don’t think Les from Ink Interrupted has resumed her Tuesday Coffee Chat sessions again.  You’re welcome to join me if you want. I hope you’ll hop & link up tomorrow for not-so Wordless Wednesday.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

What I did during my blogging break, Coffee Chat, & Random Thoughts!

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! My summer hiatus is officially over. The long break was VERY much-needed. Although, I wasn’t gone completely, since I hit the dance floor with the Monday Music Moves Me crew (I co-host) but I had to give myself permission to step away from my normal posting schedule .  After all, isn’t blogging supposed to be fun?

Speaking of mewsic, did you get a chance thit the dance floor yesterday? Not to worry it’s never too late to boogie with the 4M gals!

I’ve gotta mention this to ya! Last Thursday after my dental appointment I went to the mall to wait on DH. Anywho, I saw someone I least expected this guy, Richie Walls.

I met him for the first time last year. He’s a home town boy who lives in Hollywood now. He was an associate producer and worked closely with the casting department in the Burt Reynold’s movie, Dog Years filmed here last June. I rushed up, saying I believe I know you. I mentioned the movie and he smiled. I’m sure he thought I was totally crazy but then his phone rang. I told him I just wanted to say hi and left him to take his call.  The truth of the matter I totally blanked on his name and relieved our conversation got cut short. *blush* In my defense it was a dreary, rainy day. Therefore it’s Mother Nature’s fault for my lapse in memory.  😀

While I was away, I wasn’t idle during my time off. I finally got the long overdue task of cleaning up or clearing away all broken links on my site (I think).  A good blogging buddy, Steve, suggested I try the plugin Broken Links. It proved to be an invaluable tool that constantly keeps check on things and flagging me when something needs fixed. In the 7-years of blogging I didn’t have a plugin monitoring my site for YouTube videos and other URLs that no longer existed or closed blogger profiles or those set to private. If you ever make a change in your blogging status, please leave a redirect for folks to find you again. It was a huge job but it’s behind me now.

As I spent time going through all the broken links, I rediscovered past posts I enjoyed composing and it made me crave a return to my grassroots in Blogosphere. Well…sorta anyhow.  I do want to find my way back to more creative posts while mingling my favorite blog hops in the mix. I’ll talk more about this in future posts, as I continue to share what I did during my blogging break.

In a recent Breitbart news report, DH called my attention to former Pussycat Doll singer, Kaya Jones. In this article they shared her latest song showing her support for the military which I like the more I hear it.

Not all of Jones’ tunes match my purrsonal mewsic style but I love that she found the courage to stand up for what she believes in living in a place surrounded heavily by her opposition. All I can say is, “Go girl, go!”

This is what the hop hostess says… I got this idea from Glamour magazine. You can link up any day of the week. All you have to do is make a list of what you’re okay about. Simple! Please do not link up a post that has nothing to do with “Hey, It’s Okay”. It’s rude.

It’s okay….that I wasn’t around blogosphere yesterday! I mean who was? Oh sure many of you were and that’s okay, too.  It’s just super-duper okay to feel like you don’t have to be when you don’t wanna be.  It’s quite liberating! 🙂

It’s okay…that I don’t have more “It’s okay” statments.

I’m joining Les from Ink Interrupted for Tuesday Coffee Chat. I’m not sure if she has her weekly prompts set for this month and if I’m not on topic which I’m usually not then I’ll try to get it right next time. I’m also linking up with Stacy for Random Tuesday Thoughts. You’re welcome to tag along as I visit my lovely peeps.

That’s a wrap for this morning. You’re invited to the return of my not-so Wordless Wednesday linky party!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

5 Ways To Take It Easy + #TuesdayTunesation with @WeAreGroves

Good morning, kittens & dawgs! If you’re like me after last month’s exhausting A to Z challenge then you’re ready to take it easy. Here are five ways to do just that, take it easy.

  1. Give yourself permission to unplug from the Internet for a week or two or longer if needed. A blogging hiatus can do a gal or guy wonders!
  2.   Tackle a much-needed house chore. That seems like an odd way to take it easy but failing to do things around the house mounts when spending the better part of a month engaged in Blogosphere so actually knocking a big project off my to-do is energizing.
  3. Indulge in your favorite passions. All winter and spring I’ve neglected photography for various reasons some which include preparing for my Art Sketching Through the Alphabet theme but finding myself behind the lens refreshes my mind and when I can’t do this then I like to create photo art with existing photos.
  4. Visit with a friend. This doesn’t have to be a face-to-face either. Two ways I’m trying to reclaim to stay better connected with long distant friends is regular phone conversations or to write a lengthy letter to keep her in the loop of my life, both of which are refreshing.
  5. Listening to mewsic.  You know mewsic is a big part of my life, as it yours and that’s probably what brought us together in Blogosphere in the first place. Mewsic is soothing and relaxing to the spirit even if it’s an uptempo, get-to-your-feet mewsic. Mewsic empowers the soul!

How do you take it easy?

Speaking of mewsic, let me introduced to you new-to-me band I heard on ReverbNation in February. This group got my attention with their song Ender (#3 on below playlist).  Why does this song sound familiar and yet not I haven’t heard it before? Turn up your speakers and perk your ears to Groves!

If you want to learn more about Groves, BestNewBands interviews the group last September.

I’m joining Les from Ink Interrupted for Tuesday Coffee Chat.  She’s prompting us to finish this sentence, If I had could go anywhere today…. I would head to the mountains with a cooler filled with cold soft drinks, snacks to munch on, and camera in hand to capture some beautiful scenic shots.

But…this isn’t going to happen until DH gets his visual bearing straightened out.  Although his retina is now completely attached he has little depth of field and the vision in that eye makes everything kinda greenish tint.  He needs two more surgeries (one to remove the oil bubble from the retina re-attachment procedure & cataract surgery) and then new glasses. Despite these problems, we’re very happy he can see with that eye. Years ago a person would lose their sight because they didn’t have a way to fix it.

That’s a wrap for this morning. I’m hopping over to Stacy’s for Random Tuesday Thoughts and you’re welcome to join me if you want.

Did you vote in yesterday’s 3-Way Take It Easy #BoTB showdown? Please take a moment to listen and weigh in the fun!  I hope you’ll hop back tomorrow and link up with me for not-so Wordless Wednesday.
