#WW A tiny piece of the moon + #BoTB results

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs!  It’s not often I get a chance to photograph the night sky or in this case an early morning sky.  The first light was beginning to peak above the horizon when I noticed a tiny piece of the moon in the sky.  I snapped on my longest lens, zooming to 300mm cranked my ISO to 1600 preparing to shoot with a slow shutter speed to try to avoid camera shake handholding for the shot and I managed to do okay at one-fifteen to capture the awesome view.

Last week, I invited you not-so WW crowd to vote right along with my fellow BoTBers in my March 1st showdown.  For a time I thought this was going to be a total shut-out but then the other guy got a vote just like that.  Like the majority, the strong resemblance of Elvis of Ricky Shayne pulled me in and he had a landslide victory; tipping the ballot box 12 to 3!

The golden mic award goes to…

You can see how the other battles went down last time by visiting Stephen for the list of active BoTBers.  ?

I’ll leave you with another listen to Ricky Shayne but this time he’s singing in English!

I am going to sit out “Thursday Movie Picks” until June but I hope you’ll come back for all kinds of fun including some giggles with Friday Sillies!

Love Me Tender #WW An Italian Vs a Frenchman in #BoTB

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs! It looks Wednesdays this month is going to another dual blog post. That’s ok, it’s all about the love and fun we share for one another anyhow, right? ;  Getting my beautiful Valentine’s Day rose provided a good photo-op using it as a prop in these shots.  For a long time, I wanted to photograph a single red rose with my pearls DH got me for our 30th anniversary and finally I got it!

The following image, I shared the week before last in the CTST part of my post. I opened it in Pixelmator to give it a makeover adding an antique overlay to the background, then applying the Bouvardia Vignette effect.

Below, I added an icy heart overlay, a freebie resource I downloaded, here.  I put our initials in the frosty heart giving my creation a special touch.

Here’s another image I shared on Friday in CTST but I reinvented that photo-art creation with new effects today.  Which do you like the best this one or the one from Friday?

Okay, you not-so WW crowd, you’re here and there’s no need to rush off just yet. I invite you to stick around for the second half to help pick the next winner in March 1st Battle of the Bands.

All the love I feel thanks to DH gave me the purrfect song choice. I’m going with the King of Rock n’ Roll’s classic hit Love Me Tender, a re-work of Aura Lee first performed by Frances Farmer in 1936.  Just for the fun, I thought I’d use two foreign mewsicians to perform Elvis’s song in An Italian VS a Frenchman in BoTB!

Representing Italy, Ricky Shayne.

France’s singer, Johnny Hallyday.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional).

Which artist gets your vote, Italy (Ricky Shayne) or France (Johnny Hallyday)?

The fun continues with more epic battles underway and I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.  Check back, next week same place and time to see if your pick gets named the winner! ?

I hope you’ll join me noon tomorrow for Thursday Movie Picks!

(not-so) #WW Middle Prong Little River & #BoTB results

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good morning, kittens and dawgs! This is another WW and #BoTB double feature post. Last week, I asked y’all to cast your vote in the Santana Battles Toto covering While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

This was a very tight showdown. The tightest battle I’ve had in a long time.  In the beginning, I thought I knew which artist would get my vote. I flipped back and forth between these covers both stirring me differently. I gave both songs one more listen yesterday and I decided Toto’s vocals were a closer match to the Beatles’ original touching on my emotions the same and earning my vote. The winner is….

The finally tally, Santana  9; Toto  8!

Thanks for y’all votes. It truly adds to the fun of each showdown. Please join me on the March 1st for another battle! 😉

Ok, moving along to my regularly scheduled post. Last year about this time, we spent the day in the Great Smoky Mountains in the Upper Tremont area.  By the time we stopped beside the Middle Prong Little River, the sun was slipping farther west creating shadows in the already heavily shaded area I stood to the picture.

It was a gorgeous February day spent in the mountains as you can tell how the sunlight hits the water, especially in the first photo. I did a little photo play with my image. First I converted it to B&W format which is nice and I thought I’d love to draw this but I’m not that talented yet. *hee-hee*

So, in Pixelmator, I applied the sketch effect.  Now, if only I could doodle as good as this photo-art creation!

*all images captured with my big girl camera, Nikon D7000 18-105mm Nikkor lens.*

Let It Snow Photo-edit Fun With Free Falling Snow Overlay + #BoTB results

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs!  Let me begin with announcing the results of last week’s BoTB.  I did another Sunny cover song between three Johns, which I thought was sorta clever.   I liked the three styles that were different enough but maintaining a resemblance to Hebb’s original.  I picked Johnny Mathis mostly because I love his smooth style but a little because his version is more unique. Here’s how the voting went. Mathis – 2,  Rivers – 1, and Walker – 5. Walker is the John winning this battle!

Please don’t be mad at me. It’s not snowing here but when nature doesn’t dish it out then I decided to make some winter magic.  You might recall a few weeks ago, I turned spring photo of a church into a snowy winter scene.  In part that’s  what inspired me for this little photo-edit fun session.  I took a few photos of my Christmas Village. Hey, don’t judge! I still have it up but in my defense, it’s winter and it totally works! Anywho, I thought why not get creative by making my scenes look fabulous wintry and snowy. Oh baby, let it snow, Let It Snow!

Both originals looked okay but since I took them during the day the mood just didn’t work for me. I’ll share those in a bit.

In Pixelmator, I applied a Falling Snowing overlay (freebie photo-edit resource) on both images. The top photo I used two different overlays from the same download bundle, which came with a total of four overlays.  I had loads of fun making these! Doesn’t it look like it’s snowing?

Now, here are the originals.

Don’t they just scream, DO SOMETHING NEAT WITH ME?

Usually, I like sharing another mewsic vid of the BoTB winner but the best I can do this time is to give you John as part of The Walker Brothers band.

Next showdown is February 15th. I hope you mark your calendasmiley-icon-w_camerar to come to cast your vote! Don’t forget to join me tomorrow  for another peek through my lens with my newest edition of Skywatch Friday and CTST now on Thursdays!

Have a fototastic day!

Photo-art: Historic Rugby Church

Welcome, Kittens & Dawgs! I mentioned last week I’m not a big fan of winter and unless the sun is shining to make the day feel more comfortable you won’t find me outdoors.  Naturally, the holidays and DH’s work schedule prevented us from enjoying some day trips which means missed photo-ops.  That’s okay because I have plenty of archived photos that didn’t make the cut to fool with in one of my photo-editing programs.

In 2011 we ventured to historic Rugby, Tennessee.  It’s a living Victorian community originally founded by the British in the late 1800s.  I thought I shared photos from our trip but I can’t seem to find them on my site.  I think I understand why.  This picture didn’t turn out very well.  It was blurry but I kept it as memory shot (below).

This is a pretty little church.  With it being the dead of winter, I thought why not attempt to transform the original spring scene to a snowy one.  The first thing I did was crop and convert the image to B&W. The final step was I added a layer using the above free texture grab borrowed from Insight Designs, here.  These changes really gave my image a wintry sense.  I went a step further with this second creation.

I adjusted the blues and reds in the photo.  It gives the image an overall colder effect. It’s a bit surreal but then again it’s meant to be a fantasy creation.  What do you think? If you’d like here’s a real snowy photo shot of the church.

Come back for another peek through my lens with my newest edition of Skywatch Friday and get in on the Friday social media action. Have a fototastic day.
