#WW Cherohala Parkway Mountain View + #BoTB results

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Howdy, Kittens & Dawgs! Last year this time, DH and I were enjoying a drive in the mountains. It was a gorgeous spring day but the wind had a nippy bite. We stopped at an overlook along the Cherohala Parkway and walked the very short trail to the observation deck.

The panoramic view is nice but what really caught my eye as we were leaving were the trees. What character, I thought and had to snap a shot.  Now, looking at it doesn’t look like much but I played with the image coming up with a new photo artwork which I really like and I’ll share it on Friday.

Do you see a shot like this and think I can use this scene in my photo editor for something really cool or do you just say, Nah, I don’t like that so much and go on?

Let’s move on to my last week’s BoTB.  The song choice was John Fogerty’s Have You Ever Seen The Rain covered by Belinda Carlisle and Karen Souza.  At firs,t both contestants were at even keel but then Carlisle pulled out taking the lead and stayed in front of the showdown by a big margin.  While I liked Belinda, Karen’s slow jazzy tempo seemed to suit my mood but casting a vote for Souza still left her with less than half the number of tallies. The gal earning the golden mic with a 9 to 4 victory is…

Check with Stephen to see how the other BoTB showdowns went down last week.   I’m undecided on what to do about April 1st BoTB. It’s sorta up in the air with the A-Z Challenge but if I can swing it, then I’ll do it. 🙂 I’ll leave you with this bonus track, and just a short reminder that next week I’ll be away from Blogosphere mostly while I pull together my A2Z posts set to begin March 31. I hope you’ll hop over for your weekly dose of giggles with Friday Sillies!

Mt. Mitchell State Park Visitors Center View #WW #SWF

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good morning, kittens and dawgs! We had a gorgeous day last month in the mountains while on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is the visitors center near the Mt. Mitchell State Park summit. We were on our way back down to the parkway when we saw a picture we wanted to get.

ww-10-12-2016-dsc_7060

This is the view we saw that we wanted to try to capture.  I love how the wildflowers and fence frame the bottom of this shot!

I thought the hillside with its large flat boulders and low-growing shrubs in the foreground against ginormous fluffy clouds and swatches of blue sky overhead was dynamic! dsc_7062

On the other side of the boulders in the previous picture is Radio Station Road (not paved). It’s usually gated off. I walked up it and took this picture of the opposite valley looking back toward the Smoky’s.

I did a screen grab of a satellite view of the area. I placed a star where we parked our car to give you a better sense of where I snapped these pictures.

Watauga Lake #WW #SWF

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Thank you for joining in another week of not-so Wordless Wednesday. Today, I’m taking you to Watauga Lake in the Appalachian mountains between Elizabethton Tennessee and Boone North Carolina.

ww-10-5-16-dsc_6905

This is one of the prettiest lakes in our area or at least that’s what I think. The waterway traffic is usually not busy like many other lakes and nestled in the mountains conditions are generally cooler than most. It’s a beautifully refreshing spot to visit every time we go to Boone.

ww-10-5-16-dsc_6902

The clouds hung low over us on our drive but lacked interest. I altered these images using the haze remover which makes the sky more dramatic and below I didn’t have the depth of field in my original so I manipulated the Affinity Photo to put the focus on my feathered friends. This one never lost sight of me.

Fingers of God and elk sighting #WW

Good morning, kittens and dawgs. I’m happy you decided to join this week’s not-so Wordless Wednesday! dsc_6986

I took this photo from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had just left Water Rock Knob heading south toward Cherokee, North Carolina when we noticed the beautiful fingers of God shining through the clouds. I love how the Jerusalem Artichoke flowers (I think that’s what they are) frame the bottom.

It’s mid-September and before long we will see autumn changes but I can’t wait so I photo edited the next image because it really needs a fall touch.

dsc_6959-affinity-autumn-transition2

Using Affinity Photo, I applied the basic techniques found at this site.

Elk sightings scream autumn and September is a good time to spot them. We were fortunate to see these beautiful creatures in the big field near the North Carolina Smoky Mountains Visitors Center in Cherokee the weekend we went to watch for shooting stars.

I’m making headway on repairing broken links and videos, but it’s not getting done fast enough to suit me. Next week, I’m thinking about stepping away for just a bit to try to get this job done.  Today’s photo contribution for (not-so) Wordless Wednesday I plan to share with photo enthusiasts from around the globe participating in Skywatch Friday.

Photo-editing Water Rock Knob image #WW

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs to this week’s edition of not-so Wordless Wednesday. I’m once again photo-editing an archived photo. Today’s featured image is from Water Rock Knob Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

DSC_4866 originial

This is the original image, no photo-editing except for adding my copyright info. Nice, but ordinary, wouldn’t you agree?

I used two programs creating different images with the above picture. You decide which you like the best.

DSC_4866 Water Rock Knob(Afinity)

In Affinity Photo using the Haze Removal tool I adjusted the distance, strength, and exposure correction making the sky more interesting.

DSC_4866 Water Rock Knob (pixelmator)

In Pixelmator from the Color Adjustments part of the program, I selected “Curves”, then “RGB” setting pulled line to lower right side achieving desired look – silhouettes and dramatic sky.

One of these days, I need to actually do a tutorial to learn more about these features. There is so much more I can do, if I just learn. *sigh* Oh well, I like the feel of these new images. The sky looks a lot more interesting in both pictures over the original.  A few tweaks here and there can really change the mood of a photo, can’t it?

Suzanne from McClendon Villa asked if she could photo-edit a couple of my images and I said, “Why sure!” So here’s are her creations.

Triple_Edit_King_Kong

You can see my original image, here, that Suzanne used to create this new picture. Incidentally, I took a few new pictures of King Kong over the weekend with my big girl camera. I will try to share those soon.

The below image she used Topaz filters in her photo-editing software, but I can’t remember which one she has now. *slap forehead* If you like what she’s done then please hop over to see her and beg her to tell you her secrets. 😀

You can find the original and my photo-edits of this image, here.

You did a great job, Suzie-Q and I really appreciate you sharing these with me!

In case you missed the mews I’m working on my site, repairing broken links and videos while summer blog traffic is slow. What this means is I’m minimizing my content by combining posts that are very similar such as (Not-so) Wordless Wednesday and Skywatch Friday.

You can find more photo hops listed under Daily Hops at the top of this page.
