More Than A Name On A Wall #TheStatlerBrothers

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! I’m keeping things somber today in honor of those who gave more than just their service for this country, they gave their lives.

East TN Veterans Memorial DSC_1280

In November 2012, I snapped this photo at the World’s Fair Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was one of my first big girl camera (Nikon D7000) captures. It was a gorgeous, gorgeous day!

The Statler Brothers More Than a Name on a Wall says it all. Listen and follow the lyrics:

I saw her from a distance
As she walked up to the wall
In her hand she held some flowers
As her tears began to fall

She took out pen and paper
As to trace her memories
She looked up to Heaven
And the words she said were these

She said “Lord my boy was special
And he meant so much to me”
And oh I’d love to see him
Just one more time You see

All I have are the memories
And the moments to recall
So Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall

She said “He really missed the family
And being home on Christmas day”
And he died for God and country
In a place so far away

I remember just a little boy
Playing war since he was three
But Lord this time I know
He’s not coming home to me

She said “Lord my boy was special
And he meant so much to me”
And oh I’d love to see him
But I know it just can’t be

So I thank You for my memories
And the moments to recall
But Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall
Lord could You tell him
He’s more than a name on a wall

Lord could you tell him
He`s more than a name on a wall

More than a name on a wall

This week’s theme is “songs that are new to you that you just can’t get enough of” submitted by last month’s Spotlight Dancer Amethyst. I’m sorry I didn’t conform with today’s request as I had today’s post done ahead, but there is a new-to-me Christmas song I just could not get enough of Shout of Joy by artist Lincoln Brewster. I featured him on Saturday Song-suasion last month and if you’d like to take a listen, then you’ll find it here (number 4 on the playlist).

On behalf of the lovely Dancing Queen, Marie @XmasDolly, and her Solid Gold dancers ~ Callie @JAmericanSpice, Stacy @Stacy Uncorked, Becca @Everyday Life, & I thank you for joining us for another week of Monday’s Music Moves Me.

Now, it’s time for you to ask us to step out on the dance floor with you. By linking your musical post (all non-music link ups get labeled or removed) URL (not your main blog address) below you are inviting the 4M crew to boogie down to your tunes.

XmasDolly is trying something new to help each of us out. You can link your 4M URL here…

but, if you have a social media that needs more followers you can add it below.

Here’s hoping blogging in the New Year brings you everything you expect from it. Next stop… your place!  What music moves you?

‘a sense of greatest, even when I don’t feel so great’

Did you have a good time on the dance floor? I am looking forward to listening to your music inspired choices today. Next up… your place!  What music inspires you?

Saturday Songsuasion #21 with Kirk Franklin

JAmericanSpice shared this song recently on Monday’s Music Moves Me. Actually, she may have shared it a couple of times with us over the past year. That’s cool! The thing is, this song is one of those feel-good tunes that makes you wanna smile even when you think you can’t.

I Smile song lyrics

I dedicate this song to recession,
depression and unemployment.
This song’s for you.
Today’s a new day, but there is no sunshine.
Nothing but clouds, and it’s dark in my heart
and it feels like a cold night.
Today’s a new day, where are my blue skies,
where is the love and the joy that you promised me
you tell me it’s alright.
(I’ll be honest with you)
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain,
fell from heaven like a shower now.
(When I think how much better I’m gonna be when this is over)
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while (what you do?)
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now
You look so much better when you smile, so smile.
Today’s a new day, but there is no sunshine.
Nothing but clouds, and it’s dark in my heart,
and it feels like a cold night.
Today’s a new day, but tell me where are my blue skies,
where is the love and the joy that you promised me
you tell me it’s alright.
(the truth is)
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain (the holy ghost power, yo)
fell from heaven like a shower now.
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now
You look so much better when you smile.
Smile.. for me
Can you just smile… for me.
Smile.. for me
Can you just smile… for me.
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(and while your waiting)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(and while your praying)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(look in the mirror)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(always remember)
You look so much better when you smile
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain (but the holy ghost power, yo)
fell from heaven like a shower now.
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now.
You look so much better when you smile.
so smile.
ohohoh (Dallas) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (New Orleans) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Clevland) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Detroit) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Philay) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Jersey) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (L.A) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (all my people say) you look so much better when you
smile…
See I just don’t want you to be happy
’cause you gotta have something happening.
I want you to have joy
’cause can’t nobody take that away from you.
I see you. SMILE!!

Computer Crash/Costume Giveaway/Tax-Free Holiday/Inspiring US Capital Tour Video

One thing I learned recently is,  don’t wait for a crisis to hit – be prepared! A week ago this past Saturday our world came crashing down. Actually, it was our 2-year-old desktop that crashed. The real kicker is, it was totally unexpected and without cause. Were we ready for this? Nope, nope, nope! I hadn’t done a backup in forever or it may as well be like forever because my last known back up was in May 2011. That’s really great, Cathy!

Meanwhile, DH & I must scrap over who gets to use our sole fastest computer in the house while we’re in this out-of-our-minds limbo state.  Just continue to keep your fingers and toes crossed while thinking warm, fuzzy thoughts for all things to work out in the end with minimal heartache. I’m pretty sure, we may be able to pull our important files off.  We’ll know soon enough as we plan to attempt to retrieve the data files from the hard drive this weekend. Okay, enough about this blah-blah news.

Who wants to have some fun? I just launched my Anytime Costumes Giveaway! It  ends August 29th, so be sure to check it out.

The first weekend of the month, Tennessee had a tax-free holiday. My precious sweet DH did something very cool. Brace yourselves…oh be still my beating heart…he got me an iPad with Retina display. Like, OMC (Oh my Cathy)! How cool is that? I’ve wanted one of my own for a few years, but got the itch really bad last fall. Now, I am the proud owner of one. You can bet you’ll hear more in the coming weeks, as I explore and learn all the endless possibilities of my new toy. Yippee,  hippie, hooray!

Are you a religious or spiritual person? If you’re like me, then your folks were Christians are or at the very least strongly moral. The values my parents handed me played an instrumental part in my life. Part of my own Christian heritage brings deep thanksgiving to this nations’ founders for their courage and convictions to settle a new land to pursue their religious faith freely.

Over the years, there has been much controversial over religion and state. It’s hard to see the exactness for the smoke screen, especially those who are not persuaded as myself of the truth in our nation’s early beginnings. Perhaps you’ll find this brief, but amazing video inspiring.

Take a few minutes to enjoy a cup of coffee with your bloggy friends, as you enjoy some  random reflections, considerations, or broodings. While you’re at it, join in on the fun – create your own post and link up!
