Odd Headline Mews #humor + Friendly Fill-ins

Hello, Kittens & Dawgs! How was your week? Mine was good. I’m getting thing accomplished around the house and am prepping for April’s A-Z Challenge.  Speaking of the latter, I’m thinking about putting all my Friday material in one post in March while I work to bring my A-Zing together. What can I say, I’m here to keep you on your toes and mine, too. 🙂  I’m glad you came by this morning for your weekly dose of laughs. Set your coffee down and let’s get started Odd Headline Mews!

Let’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with Annie and Ellen. Every 1FFBadge

Thursday four fun and easy blank statements are posted for us to borrow, complete, and share on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

(1)  I wish the days where men were more masculine and women were more feminine would come back in style.  I blame liberal indoctrination.

(2)  I always have a flashlight in my purse (or wallet for men).

(3)  I think that I will have oatmeal with cinnamon and pecan pieces for breakfast this morning or eggs and toast; I’m undecided. Alternating between cereal (hot or cold) and eggs each day keeps me from getting bored.

(4)  The casual use of the f-word in our culture is a pet peeve of mine. I can’t stress how much it annoys me to hear the unnecessary use of this word in movies. It doesn’t add any value to the story and it takes away my enjoyment.

Friday Sillies: What news is making the headlines?

I shared last week some crazy headlines that a friend sent us in an email. Here are a few more…

Looks like the editor didn’t know how to spell this state with the time-old trick of … M.I. Crooked letter, Crooked letter. I. Crooked letter, Crooked letter. I. Humpback, Humpback. I.

Also, study finds… Spelling is an obstacle!

Dah…what were you expecting to find?

Yeah, but sometimes homicide victims will talk to a medium.

What about his head? You know that’s gotta hurt!

Who would have thought?

That’s your birds and the bees lesson for today… too much sex may make it easier to get pregnant. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

You have to wonder about the editors who come up with these headlines. Don’t they EVER read what’s going to press?

Rounding things up for the weekend with Hilary now in… Follow Friday Four Fill-In Fun!

  1. I would like to have a lovely dinner out,  but not while it’s winter, as I can’t get dressed up the way I want or else I will freeze to death!
  2. Photography is my favorite hobby of choice and I love sharing my views through the lens with you.  Don’t forget to take a peek at this week’s photos ops with Skywatch Friday & Wordless Wednesday, if you get a chance.
  3. When it comes to stupidity,  I have little tolerance for it! (It’s quite obvious with the above headlines there was a lot of stupidity going on, so in this case I got a good laugh over this kind of stupidity. )
  4. Once upon a time my little children played quietly & peacefully (for the most part)with my 4-walls, but now they are grown, living on their own, with the world as their playground.

Keep smiling and a have laughtastic weekend!

Skywatch, Sillies, and Fill-ins Fun

Skywatch Friday contribution

Fort Loudon Lake in Concord, Tennessee just outside of Knoxville on the west side. Skywatch Friday contribution

I captured this gorgeous East Tennessee sunset with my big girl camera in November 2012. This is a late fall sunset but looking at the sun’s glow in this image warms me.

It’s time for a dose of humor. Louis la Vache’s @Friday Funnies made me laugh recently and I want to make you laugh, too.

The below video should be called, Why people from India can’t rob a bank, but regardless what it’s called it deserves to be shared with you.

A friend sent an email chockfull of crazy headlines. Here is a sample of just a few…

Finishing things up today, here’s my response to Hilary’s Follow Friday Four Fill-In Fun statements.

  1. Tomorrow is World Thinking Day did you know such a national day existed? Not me! To learn more, click here.
  2. I really think I need a real get-away vacation to someplace very special! Say…Bar Harbor, Maine, but not this time of the year.
  3. I would never own a fur coat of any kind. I think they are beautiful, but I can’t stand the smell of animal fur or for that matter tanned leather apparel.
  4. The craziest gift I ever got was an under pillow stereo speaker. DH got me this for our first Christmas when we were dating. It wasn’t crazy, but the build up was. I asked for a hint and this is what he told me, your present is 20-feet long.  I actually loved the under pillow stereo speaker. It was just what I needed to listen to music at night to help me fall asleep without bothering anyone else. He is a creative gift-giver!

Keep smiling and a have laughtastic weekend!

Friday Sillies # 63 – Weird News

News is just way too serious. Who wants that? Especially since it’s Friday and our mind is geared for fun. Let’s enjoy some giggles with odd headlines and videos for today’s sillies!

Christmas is saved!

Not Santa! German fire brigade rescue naked man from chimney

Felines are sneaky and here’s proof.

Cat caught sneaking saw, phone into Brazil prison

Someone has too much time on his hands, but oh the expressions are priceless!

Can you imagine this?

I stumbled upon this definitely older weird news. I always say you gotta listen to your body but to learn of this discovery?

Doctors Remove 60 Pound Tumor (link no longer works)

I hope you enjoyed my sillies. Have a good weekend and keep smiling!

Tuesday News

Image borrowed

It’s Tuesday and with that comes my morning coffee and news. This week, I’m kicking off something different. Instead of my usual randomness, I thought I would springboard my rantings from the headlines that most captured my eye.

In the news today there’s more warnings…. Too Much Too Young: Children Glued to TV & Computer Screens at Risk for Cancer and Obesity. Gee, you reckon?  I agree technology – computers & TV tends to lead to a more sedentary lifestyle this isn’t the whole problem.

Think about it, 40 years ago when I was a kid, we had TV.  We all watched our favorite programs after school or on the weekends. However, my mom along with all the other moms in the neighborhood insisted on each of us doing other things.

We played indoors and out using our brilliant imaginations to create hours upon hours of interactive play which included physical activities galore – dodge ball, softball, tag, basketball, hopscotch, bicycling, roller skating, and the list goes on. We also managed to have quiet play time – Barbie dolls, house, board games, card games, etc.

We ate junk food just like kids do today but because finances were tight then there wasn’t a lot of it in the house. Snack foods were a big treat unlike it is today. Another thing is we never ate junk food out of boredom. I mean, who had time to be bored with all the outdoor activities? This was the best calorie burner ever!

Where were the obese kids? I can tell you this, they were far and few between.

My opinion is the alarming cause of issue is poor dietary habits plus inactivity. This is what’s putting our children at risk for certain cancers and excess weight gain. Liberals are trying to make it look like technology is the evil force behind this problem, just like they try to say that guns kill people when the truth of the matter is it starts with people. I dare say these kids are only mimicking what they see in their parents. You know,  “Monkey see. Monkey do.”

Where does the real change need to begin?

Marriage or Rape? 90-Year-Old Saudi Weds 15-Year-Old Girl.   My brain will never be able to wrap around this sort the Middle East’s culture. This is simply unfathomable.

To me, it makes no difference if a man lives in a far away land where this is customary or down the street where it is illegal, the man is a pedophile. Having sex with a child wife is wrong! Love making is a beautiful thing between consenting adults but these sex acts are selfish, crude, and turn it into an ugly deed.

In yesterday’s news, the headlines read: GA Mom Shoots Intruder 5 Times Saves Children. I believe this woman deserves Mother of the Year for such heroism. Can you imagine, if she didn’t have a gun to protect herself and children? The story may not have a happy ending. Instead, the headlines may have read: Mother and Twin Sons Murdered by Home Intruder.  I, for one, am happy with the favorable outcome for this family.

This little tidbit has nothing to do with the headlines. Last Thursday, I posted these questions (revised slightly):

1. Do you think it would be a fun feature on my blog to send out birthday greetings?

2. Would you be interested in participating in this new weekly or monthly spotlight on my blog? If so, please leave your birthday (month, day,  & year or what you’re most comfortable doing) and your home page URL in my comments.
This has been a blog hop participation. Why not join me in a cup of coffee as I visit with my lovelies….

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Wayback Wednesdays…1991

It’s official!  Angela, our beautiful expecting host,  appointed me as her cohort in crime in this mid-week fun, WAYBACK WEDNESDAY, and I’d like to say, “Thanks!” Today, we’re going to travel back in time to 1991.

Personal tid bits from my memory:

  • I started international pen palling for the first time!
  • My daughters celebrated their 1st and 3rd birthdays.
  • We became a one car family when my husband’s work car (his first car) went ka-poohie.
  • I recall my traumatic feelings when Dessert Storm initiated.  My sleep became deprived as I struggled to over come the anxieties of this war. It reminded me of the Vietnam war.

U.S. headlines which resonate freshly in my mind…

Disgruntled Postal Employee Goes On Shooting Rampage Killing Former Co-workers.

Michael Landon Losses Battle With Cancer.

Gruesome Discoveries of Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmar Shock The World.

Rodney King Brutally Beaten By Police Officers Captured On Film.

Why is it the bad events are kept longer in a person’s memory than something good?  While I can’t recollect personal or social positive things from that year music I find always leaves a feel-good sensation and can bridge across time like a beautiful picture.  The top Billboard hits for that year include:

Find your favorite among the top 100 songs for 1991, here!

Good vibrations are nearly always felt when taking in a Disney cinematic presentation. Beauty and the Beast – one of my daughters’ favorites debuted that year.  This definitely brings back lots of good memories – thoughts of when my daughters were little girls again!

It’s your turn to go wayback, Wayback to 1991! What memorable events do you remember? To participate in this blog hop you don’t have to follow a bunch of rules. It’s simple! Just link up (only one please) your blog, twitter, or Facebook below. Be sure to leave a comment requesting me to pop over to read your post or to become your newest follower.  Thanks for the memories! 😉
