10 Cathy Facts #AprilA2Z

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

This month, I’m participating in the A-Z Blog Challenge. I signed on for the music and photography, but the music group stuck and that’s okay. I’m about the tunes anyhow.  Let’s start things off this morning with some catchy, annoying songs!

I know you’re gonna hate me for getting these tunes stuck in your head, but hate me in a loving kinda way, ok? Which catchy song drives you the craziest? Although everyone of these songs get me to my feet and put a little boogie in my move, I still cringe every time I hear Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass.

Let’s see if I can smooth things over. How about, I tell you 10 little known Cathy facts.

  1. I had a dog when I was a little girl named Sugarfoot. I named him this because he liked candy and in my youthful ignorance I happily shared my sweets with my pup. I had no clue that candy was bad for animals.
  2. I have a birthmark on the inside of my left leg near my knee that makes me think of a bear’s face. To be precise it has always made me think of a panda for some reason. Yeah, no one else sees it (the face) other than me!
  3. I got into a fight when I was in junior high school, but not on school property. The confrontation started on the bus and when we got off that’s when the cat fight started. It was a stupid thing to do and in the following weeks, we were friends again.
  4. I had a huge crush on Vince Van Patton from the 70s TV series Apple’s Way. I remember writing a letter one summer announcing to him my undying love. It’s a good thing he didn’t respond or I would have missed my real prince charming DH. Actually, I felt embarrassed for days and days after sending that ridiculous thing out. Now, I just smile because it’s funny.
  5. I pulled firefly’s bellies off and stuck them to my face when I was a kid. Just so I could glow. I know that’s gross, but kids are weird.
  6. Another weird thing from my childhood, I believed if you poured salt on a snail that it would rain and wouldn’t you know it actually rained the first time I put it to the test!
  7. I’m almost 54 and still kinda naïve about the ways of the world or lets just say I don’t think the way a lot of people do. I’m blissful ignorant! DH says I’m sweet and I think he’s sweet for saying I’m sweet. Yeah, I know…that’s sappy.
  8. A not-so-exciting fact is I have been in every state along the eastern coast at least once.
  9. I was a preemie. I came about a month early. My mom told me they had to keep me in an incubator for 24-hours. I weighted 5 pounds 7 ounces, but I imagine by the time I left the hospital I was closer to 5 pounds, though. This isn’t preemie small like some cases, but still that’s tiny.
  10.  My best girlfriend from my childhood nicknamed me Caffey. I think it was because when I was little that’s the way I pronounced my name, so it stuck.

There you have it! Now, you can say, darn I know that gal better today than I did yesterday. 😉 Why not tell me something new about you? Thanks for stopping by. You’re welcome to follow along with me

A show of hands #life #snowday

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

tired+Of+snow+imageGood-afternoon,  kittens and dawg! Geez, Louise a second snow day in one week! Why can’t Mother Nature bring the white stuff at a time when we all really, really want to see it…. like Christmas?!

We got more snow with this system, then we did Monday night. I roughly guess we got 6″-7″ of accumulation. It’s really beautiful and it’s a gorgeous winter wonderland outside, but everyone in our neighborhood is kinda trapped. The city keeps the main arteries clear and the secondary streets are left at the mercy of Mother Nature. Yeah, like she’s gonna help! Well…not today!

DH will go out in short order to shovel the fluff…okay it’s not fluffy! This storm dumped the wet, good-for-packing snow on us this go around. DH is in for a better than usual driveway workout.

The forecast shows promises of warmer temps starting Saturday and carrying into next week. If this pans out then maybe the worst of winter has passed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Say, Aaaaah! 4 – internet resources, tricks, and tips on surviving an adult tonsillectomy #T2Q #random

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! This morning DD#2 is having a tonsillectomy. DH and I still have our tonsils, so I have no idea what she’s up against. Naturally, you would expect nothing less of me so you know I asked Google for a little help. I got hundreds of hits, but I narrowed it down to four internet resources, tricks, and tips on surviving an adult tonsillectomy from different bloggers first-hand experiences with this matter.

I’m totally ignorant on this subject, but found what the info these bloggers shared important and useful, if faced with the removal of my tonsils. I plan to text these links to her with the hope it makes life a bit easier for her in the coming days. Maybe this info will benefit you or someone you know to get through this common childhood procedure, as an adult. This is supposedly a difficult undertaking as a grown up. So, please say a little prayer for her! 😉

Do you have your tonsils?  If not, did you have them removed as a child or an adult? What type of experience did you have?

This has been a wild week, if all goes well, I hope to share another edition of Flashback Friday tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by!

Why it is important to get enough #sleep to help with #weightloss & #BOTBresults

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! I am tired this morning, but I not too tired to forget to announce my #BOTBresults.  My last installment of the band show-down was totally lopsided, swinging heavily in favor of the Jamaican reggae duo consisted of Vernon Buckley and Gladstone Grant known as The Maytones!

On a scale from 1-10 (the higher the number, the greater your fondness is), how well do you like reggae?

Who is your favorite reggae artist/band?

Sample a taste of The Maytones Greatest hits while you visit me this morning and don’t forget the next round of BOTB will be on February 1st.

I read an interesting article on four ways your body blocks weight loss. I was aware of each point listed and had a general understanding.

The Kennedy Chocolate Taste-Off Challenge #review

Last month, I pitched a request to my Facebook friends asking their opinion of what’s the best chocolates they have tried. Most of the responses mentioned chocolatiers I knew and the few I didn’t know I investigated.

Let me begin by saying this review is not a sponsored post and I was not compensated by any of the companies that fell prey to our taste buds. We bought every last sinful bite and no doubt will regret eating too many sweets after Christmas but that’s a post for another time. This write-up is purely FYI.

I knew, since last Christmas I wanted to get Lake Champlain Chocolates. It’s been years! We got a couple of familiar boxes of chocolates that we always liked to try again.

Holiday Chocolates of Vermontholiday-chocolates-of-vermont_2 What’s in the box: 4 each Honey Caramel, Green Mountain, Maple Crunch, & Evergreen Mints.

holiday-chocolate-assortment-30pc_1Holiday Chocolate Assortment 30pc What’s in the box: milk, dark, and white assorted chocolates, including 10 truffles. (Click on the link to get full details)

Excited to try Lake Champlain Chocolates after many years, my enthusiasm quickly dwindled to discover the once superior quality has slipped. The truffle centers lacked flavor and too fluffy making them more of a meltaway chocolate instead of the consistency usually associated with truffles. The other chocolates as well were weak on flavor. It seems like they are skimping on quantity and quality of ingredients, but still charging premium prices for their product. A common flaw I see that’s practiced by many companies. I do have two good things to say about our LCC experience. The box chocolates are beautiful to receive and the chocolate’s (shells only) is satin elegance on your tongue. We have no plans to order from LCC in the immediate future. Maybe, we’ll try them again in two or three years.

The night we place our LCC order, we also bought from a new-to-us chocolate company in Maine, Dean’s Sweets, who specializes only in truffles. Perfect!

We optedboxed8_sm to get the 8-piece Maine Mix collection – link removed because as of 12-28-2016 no longer is available on their site. What’s inside the box: 2 each Maple, Blueberry, Maine Sea Salt Caramel, & Needham.

DS truffles are smaller than most and expensive considering we only got a ¼ pound of chocolates. However, we hoped the taste would make up for the quantity. The quality is good. I wouldn’t say it was exceptional but far better than LCC and of the four flavors we considered the Maine Sea Salt Caramel outstanding. The other truffles failed to meet our taste palette expectations. That being said, will we order from Dean’s Sweets again. Yes, I see another order in our future.

After sampling these chocolates, we decided to order from a very well-known chocolate company,  GODIVA, instead of being molested by Christmas shoppers at the mall. Yeah, me and my personal space issues, right? lol  I’m not gonna lie to you, we placed a sizable order AGAIN. We didn’t discriminate, either. We got dark, milk, and white chocolates ~ truffles and other chocolates. We wanted to try a variety.

Here’s what we wound up with (hey, don’t judge).

What can I say, except Godiva was FANTASTIC like always. Needless to say, Godiva wins hands down easily and you betcha we’ll continue to buy from Godiva!

Pssst… just wanted to throw this out to ya that Godiva has a little promo going on where you can receive a $10 gift certificate for every $50 you spend. This offer expires ends shortly before Christmas and I found out the GC are mailed out to you after Christmas. It’s a nice incentive, especially if you’re planning to buy anyhow. Oh yeah, you can further your savings by going through Ebates. (If you click this link & join with me, then after you make your first purchase I will receive a one- time bonus of $5 and a chance at the $10,000 sweeps.)

I have one more mail order candy review up my sleeve. Come back to see how See’s Candies fairs in the Kennedy Chocolate Taste-Off Challenge.
