Thanksgiving #humor, #CTST, & #FriendlyFillins

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  I debated on posting today but since DH is at work and most of next I’m spending with him then I thought I’d share a mixture of giggles with these Friday Sillies. Enjoy!

This week I went for my last dental post-op appointment for this year and while I was there I had the doctor fix my front tooth. The same place chipped again.

Early night fall makes me think the evenings are longer than they are and am more than ready by 8:30 to hit the hay.

I’m linking Skywatch Friday and if you’re here for a peek at this week’s contribution, kindly click here.

What are you celebrating?  Today, I Celebrate The Small Things with Lexa.  Today, I’m joyfully celebrating DD#2 & DSIL got moved into their new apartment in Brunswick, Maine on Tuesday after spending almost two weeks in a motel.  I know they are more thrilled than me. I celebrate the age of technology all the more and thanks to text and FaceTime we can stay connected with them. Who knows we may become closer despite the distance that now separates us.

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

1. I can’t wait to eat all the desserts on Thanksgiving. Speaking of desserts I found a really yummy cookie recipe at Ida’s place, Wishes, Dreams, & Other Things, and I made it just the other day and mmm, good!

Brown Sugar Pecan Cookies

Category: dessert

Brown Sugar Pecan Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 36 pecan halves or chopped pecans, toasted, optional

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
  2. Add in flour, baking soda, and salt beat until combined. Stir in chopped pecans.
  3. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes (or more).
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  5. Shape into 1" balls (I used a 1 tbsp cookie scoop) and place a couple inches apart on lightly greased
  6. cookie sheets or parchment paper. Bake 10 minutes or until set (not glossy at all in the middle) and lightly browned at the edges. Cool before frosting (see below).

Notes

Frosting: 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted.

First, combine brown sugar and milk in a small pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil and boil 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in butter. Second, stir in 1½ cups powdered sugar and whisk or beat with a mixer until smooth. If frosting is too thin, add more sugar, but keep in mind it will firm up dramatically within a few minutes. Finally, spread each cookie with about 1 tablespoon of frosting and top with a pecan or chopped pecans. Let frosting set before storing.

SUGGESTIONS:

These cookies spread rather thin when baked. If you prefer a thicker cookie similar to Pecan Sandies then I recommend either decreasing butter or increasing flour. I will make this adjustment the next time I make this recipe.

Also, a trick for frosting the cookies is to keep frosting on burner after you turn it off and frost one cookie at a time because the frosting cools off too quickly to spread. We feel like the cookies probably would be better if I had not added quite so much frosting, so I'll scale back on the frosting next go around.

2. My favorite kind of pie is pecan but I’ve grown to love pumpkin pie over the years which is especially good with lots of Reddi Wipp piled on top.

3. This year, I am particularly thankful for DH’s eye sight after such a scare  earlier in the year with the detached retina.

4. A funny holiday tradition in my/our house is we don’t have one. Yeah, that’s sad, I know, but now I’m eager to read what everyone’s funny holiday traditions are….wait! there is funny tradition in my family. We don’t do it so much except I might if it crosses my mind but this is something my grandpa used to do every year and don’t ask me what it means because I really have no clue. Maybe, you know and can enlighten me.  Anywho, he used to call us first thing or greet us when we walked into their home on Christmas by being the first person to say, “Christmas gift!” FYI, I found the why to this strange custom here if you’re interested.

That’s a wrap for now but I hope to see you on the dance floor for Thanksgiving/Thankful mewsic on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me!

Cute Images of Kids in #DIY Costumes to Make You Smile #FridaySillies #SWF #CTST #FriendlyFillins

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  I realize that Halloween is now past us but I got to poking around on Google when I stumbled across a cute DIY costumes worn by kids and I knew I just had to share them with you in my Friday Sillies spot. Enjoy!

Too cute, right? Which is your favorite? Did you have any “Trick or Treaters”?

I’m re-sharing a piece of fall splendor captured on my street a few years ago with the participators of Skywatch Friday and other photo enthusiasts. Unfortunately, we did not get this kind of show this year.

Did you have pretty fall colors in your area? Are all the leaves down?

I’m joining Lexa in I Celebrate The Small Things. Today, I’m celebrating…

  •   … sorta making contact with Lexa (yes, our host). She accepted my FB friend request and she even mentioned me in a comment, so yeah she’s still among us. I know, I know what’s one to think after a long absence? I was worried about her but hoping for the best. She’s still in the recoup mode which I totally get. That was so me about four years ago after getting horribly sick from an acute diverticulitis that resulted in 2-weeks in the hospital and surgery in the end.
  • the end of summer’s heat and return of cooler temps.  I tried living in the moment despite for the first time this summer but honestly I secretly looked forward to the nip of autumn, which we really got last weekend!
  • the holidays. Thanksgiving is three weeks away and I eager to begin prep for our feast and then all things Christmas!
  • … the continued good progress with DH’s eye after retina attachment surgery.  It looks like he can wait until next spring to have the oil bubble removal surgery (the oil bubble is used to hold the retina in place). We’re not sure if the cataract surgery will be done at the same time or separately.  There’s always the possibility that removing the oil bubble can cause the retina to detach but we’re hopeful because at the end of next March is the one year anniversary of the retina surgery and his eye will have a long healing period. This might play out favorably for him, too. *say prayers, keep fingers crossed*
  • …getting to see DD#2 off for Maine late Wednesday night.  Hopefully by the time this post goes live, she will send a text or call saying they are in Portland. The last 2 -3 weeks have been a whirlwind. I’m going to miss my baby girl!

What are you celebrating?

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

1. My favorite part of November is Thanksgiving. I love the holidays!

2. Every November, I work frantically preparing our Thanksgiving meal in advance and items like the the turkey, ham, and dressing I make enough to put in the freezer for Christmas. This makes things easier in December..

3. For me, peace is turning everything over to God. Ultimately everything is in His hands anyhow and that’s the best place for my concerns to be.

4. So far, my upcoming holiday plans  obviously is a lot of cooking, baking, and candy making. Aside those things I’m not sure what our plans will entail. DH’s weak vision limits his enjoyment but I’m sure we’ll find ways to enjoy the holidays.

I’ll leave with this new-to-me mewsic discovery at 30 Songs About November.

I decided earlier in the week that I need to scale back in Blogosphere with the holidays coming. If you don’t want to miss a single post then join my email subscription to get instant notification of the latest mews! One thing you can bank on is the rest of the year, you’ll find me consistantly on the dance floor and you’re invited to boogie with me on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me (our next theme next week is – your choice)!   X💋X💋, Cathy

Hee Haw #humor, Grand Ole Opry #SWF, & Friendly Fill-ins

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Purrs and howdys, Kittens & Dawgs! Last Friday, we returned to Nashville for the day. When I think of Tennessee’s capital city, I think about a big part of my childhood days spend in front of the TV watching the popular show Hee Haw.  Today’s Friday Sillies edition I thought I’d reminisce a bit with some of these giggles and hopefully bring a smile to your face.

For all you photo enthusiasts and Skywatch Friday fans, I’m sharing an iPhone8 capture from the end of last month on a gorgeous blue sky day in Nashville, Tennessee. There is just a hint of autumn color in the tops of the trees in the foreground of the Grand Ole Opry.

What are you celebrating?

Today, I Celebrate The Small Things like having a solid relationship with DH. I found out this week that some dear friends who I never thought this would happen to are divorcing. They are wonderful people and I hate this like crazy. I don’t know the situation and the details aren’t  important but we hope to continue being friends with each one regardless. No judgment here just love and prayers.

This has been one of those weeks where I know I have more reason to celebrate but because of things going on around us then it’s hard to cut through the fog to notice these blessings and giving thanks for all the small things.  That being said, I am truly blessed and am thankful for God’s goodness because without Him I don’t know how I’d make it through each day.

Might I impose on y’all one more time to say a special prayers our children? Something new with DD#1 happened this week, then as you may know DD#2 is moving to Portland Maine on Nov. 1st without housing or job. Her husband’s employer (Carmax) is opening soon up there and he’s been transferred to there. No company provisions are being made for their living arrangement or move.  They set up a GoFundMe account hopefully to offset some of their expenses. It never hurts to ask for help. Blessings to each of you!

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. If I was a ghost, I would haunt the meanest, wickedest people.
  2. I always push circumstances from my thoughts when something looks or sounds bad because giving a place in my mind for these things is exhausting emotionally and physically and leads to sickness.
  3. My favourite scary story is …hmmm, I don’t know. I don’t believe I have a favorite.
  4. I will be so glad when the clouds hanging over those I love dissipate and sunny blue skies return which in turns make my life happier, too.

That’s a wrap for now but I hope to see you on the dance floor with songs about cars or trucks on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me!  X💋X💋, Cathy!

Funny Animal Pictures #FridaySillies

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  Another week bites the dust. This is DH’s off Friday, so I’m sharing nothing but sillies with you. I hope you today’s contributions make you giggle a lot with these Friday Sillies!

A blonde and a redhead have a ranch. They have just lost their bull. The women need to buy another, but only have $500. The redhead tells the blonde, “I will go to the market and see if I can find one for under that amount. If I can, I will send you a telegram.” She goes to the market and finds one for $499. Having only one dollar left, she goes to the telegraph office and finds out that it costs one dollar per word. She is stumped on how to tell the blonde to bring the truck and trailer. Finally, she tells the telegraph operator to send the word “comfortable.” Skeptical, the operator asks, “How will she know to come with the trailer from just that word?” The redhead replies, “She’s a blonde so she reads slow: ‘Come for ta bull.'” (joke credit source)

Love #humor, Patriotic Farmhouse #SWF, & #Friendly-Fillins

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  Yesterday, in my nostaglic post series, Throw Back Thursday I revisited that popular 70s singluar comic strip, “Love is”. Today, I’m sharing the funnier side of love to bring you, your weekly dose of laughs with my Friday Sillies contribution . Enjoy!

Funny Love One-liners

To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all. Source link

You know that tingly little feeling you get when you like someone? That’s your common sense leaving your body. Source link

I have never understood why women love cats. Cats are independent, they don’t listen, they don’t come in when you call, they like to stay out all night, and when they’re home they like to be left alone and sleep. In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat. Source link

Reader’s Digest Love Humor

Tailored Made

My husband and I couldn’t decide which jacket to buy our granddaughter, so we asked the young salesman.

“If you were buying a jacket for your girlfriend,” I said, “what would you get?”

“A bulletproof one,” he said. “I’m married.”

All Dolled Up

A husband and wife had been married for 60 years and had no
secrets except for one: The woman kept in her closet a shoe box that
she forbade her husband from ever opening. But when she was on her deathbed—and with her blessing—he opened the box and found a
crocheted doll and $95,000 in cash.

“My mother told me that the secret to a happy marriage was to never
argue,” she explained. “Instead, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.”

Her husband was touched. Only one doll was in the box—that meant she’d been angry with him only once in 60 years. “But what about all this money?” he asked.

“Oh,” she said, “that’s the money
I made from selling the dolls.”

Love jokes

What’s the difference between love and herpes?

Love doesn’t last forever.

Why shouldn’t you marry a tennis player?
Women Love Poems
AT WORK…
Michael: Why you white guys always so happy?
Casey: Because I make love to my wife every morning before work.
Michael: Say whaaat? You get her to make love EVERY morning? How do you do that?
Casey: It’s easy, I just say a poem, women love poems and will fall for them all the time.
Michael: Ok, what kind of poem can you say to make her make love every morning?
Casey: I say, “blonde hair, blonde hair, eyes of blue, I love to wake up and make love to you.
Michael: HAHAAA she falls for that?
Casey: yes you should try it.
NEXT DAY TYRONE COMES IN WITH BLACK EYE FAT LIP AND A TOOTH MISSING…
Casey: What happened to you?
Michael: Well, I said a poem to my wife and she didn’t like it.
Casey: She didn’t like it??? What did you say?

Michael: Nappy head, nappy head, eyes like a frog, if I could roll your fat ass over I would do you like a dog.

For all you photo enthusiasts and Skywatch Friday fans here is this week’s contribution, a Patriotic Farmhouse and more beautiful blue skies!

What are you celebrating?

Today, I Celebrate The Small Things  in life such as taking a daytrip to Nashville with DH that I shared with earlier in the week on Cathy Chats. You don’t have to have a lot of money to enjoy being with the one you love.  The biggest expense was gas. It was great to explore a new mall, try Jeni’s ice cream (Milkiest Chocolate & Salty Caramel get two thumbs up), and Five Daughters Bakery donut shop (sorry to report this shop didn’t meet our expectations earning two thumbs down).

I celebrate the generousity of DH. Earlier this week he bought me three blouses and then just the other evening he came home with a cute button down mini skirt. It’s not super short unless you’re 5’10”. I haven’t tried it on yet but it’s appears longer than most of my skirts. Yeah, I like ’em short and does DH. 🙂

I’m celebrating a small life’s obstacle removed and hope it never returns to trip things up again.

I’m celebrating being giddy. Yeah, I have a very good reason for being especially happy but can’t reveal that mews just yet. Hopefully before long I can let the Cathy out of the bag and share it with you! 😉

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. October is the perfect time to have lots of hot chocolate loaded with marshmellows!
  2. Halloween is not my favorite holiday, in fact, I can totally do without it…except for the candy. I’m all for the candy!
  3. Every October, I  begin planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas, stocking the pantry with menu items, figuring out greeting cards, and presents for family.
  4. My experience with the supernatural world is limited to TV shows and movies. The only time I had a weird encounter is when a duplicate necklace appeared along side mine. I picked it up and examined it making sure my eyes weren’t tricky me, then layed it down but when I went back to get it to show DH it was gone. Was it a dream or it did it really happen? That will be a mystery I’m sure to not solve.
