Mid-Dec #BoTB showdown & more Friday Fun Stuff!

Hello Kittens & Dawgs! This is my last BoTB for the year. I can’t believe how fast 2017 went and I’m not hopeful that the upcoming year will be any different. Time stands still for no one!

Last time I kicked off the month with A Twisted Christmas Carols showdown and this time I did the exact opposite in choosing my all-time favorite classic Christmas carol, Silent Night. Instead, of using the typical vocal arrangement I went with three instrumental covers.

Contender #1 Rafael Scarfullery strumming a classical guitar.

Contender #2 Michael Lynch on picking a Ukulele.

Contender #3 Taylor Davis duet with herself playing the violin.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional).  Which string artist gets your vote –  guitar, ukulele, or violin?

I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players for more spectacular showdowns.  Next Friday, I’ll share the results along with my vote and I hope you’ll check back to see if your pick wins.

Next, let’s have a little get-to-know-Cathy-better time with these Friendly Fill-Ins shared by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. Snow oh no, not here which is purrfectly alright by me.
  1. I am ready for spring. Are you?
  1. One holiday memory that I cherish is the collection of memories from my childhood mostly of my brother. He loved Christmas. This will be his 11th Christmas in heaven. I sure do miss him a lot.
  1. I always thought that Santa left lumps of coal or a bundle of twigs for bad children. I never wanted to find these things under the tree on Christmas morning. Thankfully, I was a good girl most of the time and didn’t receive either. Of course, it might have been a clever way to get kindling for the furnance each year. Maybe it was job of the parents to be naughty so he’d leave them coal and twigs.

Aren’t you glad hung around for that? 😉

I believe everything in life is worth celebrating big or small and am playing alone with Lexa and her hostess in Celebrate The Small Things.

I am celebrating the new Christmas mewsic, Gwen Stefani’s You Make It Feel Like Christmas album that DH got me from iTunes this week after we watched her TV special.  Incidentally, I shared Gwen’s complete album on Tuesday if you’re interested in listening for yourself. 😉

I’m celebrating my birthday. Actually, it was yesterday. I’m another year older which is good considering the alternative. I don’t feel any different. My brain keeps telling me I’m 18 or 20 or 30. I’m blessed with good health and can do most things that I did in my 30s. The mirror however always has something else to say about my age….if I stay in front of it long enough. I try to not hang around it too much because I’m afraid I won’t like what it has to say. 🙂 DH made me a Duncan Hines chocolate cake with caramel frosting.  I wanted to try that combo for a while and was more than happy that he did it just for me and it was good. He got me an Apple Pencil that I hinted at wanting after he got me my iPad back in June which I’m love, love, lovin’! He made this gal really happy by surprising me with it. I mean, how did he know THAT was exactly what I wanted? I can’t say my husband doesn’t listen to me now, can I? lol But, he’s a darling sweetheart and I wouldn’t take anything in the world for him!

I am celebrating the completion of my Christmas shopping and cards sent out.  I celebrate a little every day as I make a dish or dessert for our Christmas dinner. It helps to do these things in stages, storing it away in the freezer for the big day. It makes life so much easier! We’re in the final countdown with 10 days to go!!

What are you celebrating?

Finally, a little humor with Friday Sillies Christmas edition on “Silent Night”.

That’s all the laughs for now. Have a songtastic day; don’t forget to hit the dance floor with Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me where we’re celebrating all things Christmas!

FYI Jingle Cats is not a contender in this edition of BoTB, so please refrain from voting on it. I couldn’t resist sharing this with you! 😉

A Twisted Christmas #BoTB Showdown + Friday Fun Stuff Mashup #humor #CTST #fillins

Merry Christmas, Kittens & Dawgs! Can you believe it’s that time of the year again? Not me! I debated whether to pull together a post today but I thought why not. It’ll be great fun to roll together some Friday Fun Stuff with some sillies and a whole lot more including a funny BoTB showdown!

Today’s battle I’m using two different Bob Rivers songs and if you’re familiar with the songwriter then you know he adds a twist to classics that sure to make you smile or laugh out loud.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which songs gets your vote “Carol of the Bartenders” or “Police Stop My Car” and why (optional). If you enjoyed this battle, then I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for a complete list of BoTBers.

Today, I’m playing alone with Lexa and her hostess in Celebrate The Small Things.

I’m celebrating the determination DD#2 shows in keeping us in her life. Sunday, she and DSIL Facetimed with us from a view overlooking Camden, Maine from Mt. Battie. It was gorgeous. The sun was setting as we talked, so we had to cut it short so they could hike back to the car while they had some light. Ain’t technology cool?

I’m celebrating having lunch with DD#1 on Monday. We had a lovely time. I hope we can do that again before the weather gets too cool, as I have to walk to meet up with her. Thankfully, she lives about a mile and a half from us, so it’s not a bad walk then there are some places near her we can grab something to eat. 🙂

I’m celebrating getting my chocolate (both milk and white chocolate) peanut butter balls (also called ‘Buckeyes’) and dark chocolate covered cherries made this week. DH says they are some of the best I’ve made, too. Yay, me!

I’m celebrating every day with Christmas mewsic. Yes, I’m beginning early but anytime I do anything Christmasy, I love to listen to mewsic.

I’m celebrating getting my handstamped Christmas cards off to a good start. I’ve nearly completed six. I am only sending these to family. I used to do them for everyone but poor returns forced me to scale back, but I enjoy doing what I do nonetheless.

What are you celebrating?

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. I can’t believe Monroe Salt Works Pottery is still sold. More accurately, MSW Pottery went out of business 10-years ago. We discovered them while vacationing in Maine in 2004 and bought a bunch of their mugs. Luckily I found Peasley Pottery last fall online and the artist, Nancy, does a great job. We got two of her moose mugs for DD#2 and her husband last Christmas which they love!
  2. I have nothing on Craigslist.
  3. Going into December, the weather outside is NOT frightful. Seriously, we’re having some mild temps but that’s supposed to change next week and I’m not looking forward to that!
  4. My current weakness is homemade candy. I’m trying to not sample it as I make it but I cave every time. I really have to stop that!

DH was supposed to work but he had a floating holiday to use before mid-December, so he elected to take it today. Naturally, you won’t find me in Blogosphere. We have some fun planned but I’ll be by to see you soon. Mark your calender to join me next week for more Friday Fun Stuff including the results of this BoTB showdown! Also, don’t forget to hit the dance floor with me for “All Things Christmas” on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me! 😉

#BOTB Results, Friday Sillies, Celebrations, & More

Okay, I changed my mind. On the 1st, I said I would wait until the 12th to share the results of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” #BoTB Showdown but I thought it was best to go ahead in bringing the outcome (as if you don’t already know) today. You can blame this on crazy female hormones. Forget the hormone imbalance, I’m just crazy!

The battle between Ali Ollie Woodson and James Durbin was a near shut out but thankfully one lone soul, other than myself saved the day.  Most of  y’all preferred Durbin for his rockabilly version and as a group collectively liked Woodson but not the length of his cut. The one thing I thought of going into this battle and wondered if it would hinder you guys mentally but no one mentioned it other than “Stephen the Neanderthal”, (Hey, I didn’t come up with the name, I’m just quoting the dude. 😀 ) and that’s getting passed a chick song sung by roosters. The honors for this round goes to….

Thank y’all for making this battle successful and fun. If it pleases you, let me give you another taste of Durbin super talents. You know heavy rock isn’t me, I prefer middle of the road rock but I found a couple of new recordings that I enjoyed from his latest album, Riot on Sunset.

The #BoTB List Master keeps and shares all players on his site, so if you want to find out how the other battles went down then hop over to visit, Stephen now.  Next battle is the 15th and I need your help picking the next winner, so mark your calendar for the next event!

Today is very special for two reasons and is why I celebrate the small things with Lexa while giving you your dose of laughs.

The first reason I celebrate is… it’s my little sister’s birthday!

Coincidentally, I honored all my siblings through mewsic on Monday. 😉

The second thing I’m celebrating is, it’s our anniversary!

In honor of our 38th wedding anniversary, I will share with you and fellow Skywatch Friday photo enthusiasts a few sky view photo memories from our 10th anniversary spent in New England.

Images from top to bottom: Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Bristol Maine, Porcupine Islands View from Cadillac Mountain – Acadia National Park, Hammond Castle Gloucester Massachusetts, and Motif No. 1 in Rockport Maine. These moments captured with my first big girl camera a Nikon FG-20 35mm camera in 1989.  I scanned the negatives a few years back to my computer but they needed a little photo touch up to mainly remove dust but I adjusted the color balance a bit in Pixelmator. This was a magical trip for us and DD#1. It was more magical for us than her since she was three weeks shy of her first birthday.

A biggest part of blogging is getting to know one another. Earlier in the week I shared, “30 Odd Questions” about me and here’s yet another way we can get better acquainted with FRIENDLY FILL-INS hosted by Annie and Ellen.

A prop from a tv show or film I would like to own is the ruby-red slippers from The Wizard of Oz.

My oldest friendship is with my two friends from Kindergarten – Anita Davis Rice and Robert Hogan. (Two kids in foreground are me and my little brother, JC. Anita and Robbie are behind us.)

Whenever I have dairy products, I always stomach problems. I’m lactose intolerant but I love cheese (which bothers me the most) and ice cream.

I wish I could show my tummy off like this but three pregnancies compounded by age sort of stands in the way.

The best part of my day is when DH comes home.

That’s a wrap for another tunetastic, giggle-filled, photo-optimistic day. Hit the dance floor “Freebie” style with the 4M gals on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Moves!
