Balsam Mountain Inn #WW

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Welcome, Kittens & Dawgs! Last month on one of our day trips to Dillsboro, North Carolina reminded us of a place we wanted to see for years but never got around to it.  Unlike today, finding these out-of-the-way places without was once tricky and perhaps one reason we didn’t visit before now.  Stroll with me through time at the Balsam Mountain Inn.

dsc_7373

Built in the early 1900s. The inn is now a registered historical landmark  The 100-foot front porch is spacious and offers an awesome view of the mountains.   The inn became known as “Grand Old Lady of Balsam”.

The front entrance to the inn has double doors leading into this amazingly cozy lobby area.

dsc_7385

The wide-built corridors were for steamer trunks that traveled with extended summer guests of the inn as seen in the below picture.  Nowadays,  this space is used for local craftsmen to sell their products.  What got my attention here is the water cooler on the left, isn’t that coolest thing?  I’ve not seen one of these before, have you?

Another view of the lobby area from the other end with the front desk in the far right corner of this picture.

This is one of the dining areas with only two small tables. I love the amber light in this room. I’m shooting toward one of those long, wide corridors and if you turn right it’ll take you back to the lobby.

Here I’m just outside this room ⬆︎ looking into this huge sunroom dining area.  The light is harsh compared to the room above even with the sun making its way over the horizon.

The next room’s view is on the sunroom side and this really transported my mind to another time.  I could almost see ghosts of Christmas past dancing or dining in this room.

I altered the exposure in some of these pictures with a Pixmelator photo editing software, like the one below.  This place was really hard to photograph.

ww-01-05-2017-dsc_7400I’m standing at the main entrance taking one last look at the great dining room.

It’s was dark by the time we left the inn but I had one last opportunity for a neat shot.

I hope you liked the tour of Balsam Mountain Inn.  Perhaps, we’ll have a chance to visit another time.  I would love to capture it at various points in the different seasons.  Can you just imagine how gorgeous it is here when it snows or when the tree buds begin to show or in when the mountains display her fall colors?

Something About December & more Monday Mewsic

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

afterxmas1

Good morning, kittens & dawgs!  How was y’all Christmas?  December is really scooting by, isn’t it?  It’s funny as a kid, I remember when the calendar flipped to December that it took forever for Christmas to arrive but this month is anything other than a long December.

This December is flying by faster than Santa’s reindeer but honestly, there’s something magical about December, don’t you agree?

While we had a rather mild Christmas weekend we have had some cold December nights and in my opinion, that really makes the season all the more Christmasy.

Because this month zipped just like a snap of a finger it’s now late December!

I guess I can share one more peek at some beautiful Christmas lights, though.  This is the Christmas Village in Pigeon Forge.  It looks like Christmas all year round there but during the holidays they make it even more festive.   Do you see the small lighted buildings just above the garland?  One of the product lines The Christmas Village carries is Department 56.  This is where DH bought my first pieces of my New England Christmas Village.  I’d love to expand my collection so I can put a bit in every room of the house. Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?

I hope you enjoyed this morning’s mewsic collection.  Are you still listening to Christmas tunes or have you moved on to other mewsic?

Thank you for including me in your Monday. 😉 My friend, XmasDolly who puts on the Monday’s Music Moves Me 🎶 linky party is a bit short-handed and I volunteered to co-host as long for as long as she needs me.  You’re invited to hit the dance floor.  This month’s theme is Christmas anything!

I’m taking a break from Blogosphere until after the New Year.  My schedule posts are set and I plan to pop in to respond to comments and do return visits as time permits. You’re welcome to hop back for not-so Wordless Wednesday!

Merry Christmas Wishes

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

snowy-church-christmas

We don’t have snow in East Tennessee this Christmas or at least not at our house.  I’m sure on top of ole Smoky you might find traces of the white stuff, though.  Whatever the weather is like where you are, I hope the warmth of the season fills your heart and home with love from friends and kin.  Thank you for the gift of your friendship.  I am looking forward to continuing to build on what we started this year or years past.  May God’s glory brought down from heaven and laid in a manager shine in your life always. 😘

DH gets me Christmas mewsic just about every year and this year is no exception.  He got me the iTunes Happy Holiday album by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, which I like a lot.  I hope you enjoy it, too!

While you listen to the Christmas cheer, I want to share with you a beautiful poem entitled “Gifts” written by my good friend.

Gifts
by: McGuffy Ann Morris

I’ve already shopped, bought gifts galore,
then wrapped them up with bows and more.
I decorated the house inside and out;
each year brighter, without a doubt.
Still, something is missing; I don’t know what;
I must figure it out: no if, and, or but.
I baked lots of goodies to give and to share,
packaged them all up with love and care.
I wrote out cards from a very long list;
I don’t think there’s anyone I may have missed.
Still, something’s missing, what can it be?
It’s Christmas Eve, around the tree!
Lights are all lit, stockings are hung;
ready for Mass as church bells are rung.
Outside, what’s missing? I finally know.
A gift from the heavens: it’s Christmas snow!
Each snowflake, a miracle sent from above;
each miracle a gift of God’s perfect love.
Silent and holy, the snow pure and white,
reflections of God’s love born Christmas night.

A Storefront Christmas Display #WW

Welcome back, Kittens & Dawgs! This morning, I’m sharing a not only a sight of Christmas but the sound of the holidays, too.

In my Skywatch Friday edition, I shared a photo taken in Bryson City, North Carolina. Here is another, a storefront Christmas display.

dsc_7294-bryson-city-nc-clampitt-hardware-co

I love the vintage toys in the window, don’t you?  This photo needs to look the part, though. So,  I applied two different Pixelmator effects.  In the first photo below, I used Sepia Tone.

dsc_7294-septia-tone

In the second photo I added a Black & White finish with a bit of grain.

dsc_7294-bw-with-grain

Which of the three do you like the best?  Do you have an old fashion memory to share?  What do you want Santa to bring you this Christmas?

I’m taking a blog break until the first of the New Year.  My regular scheduled posts are set, so feel free to come back for another peek through my lens with my newest edition of Skywatch Friday and get in on the Friday social media action. Have a fototastic day and the merriest Christmas ever!

Christmas Mewsic Inspired Choices

Thank you for including me in your Monday, Kittens & Dawgs!  My friend, XmasDolly who puts on the Monday’s Music Moves Me 🎶 linky party is a bit short-handed and I volunteered to co-host as long for as long as she needs me.  You’re invited to hit the dance floor.  This month’s theme is Christmas anything!

fs-12-16-2016-elvis-no-no-no-elves

While visiting fellow bloggers last week, I was moved by the mewsic and so, I decided to share my Christmas Mewsic Inspired Choices from You today!

Ramona from ‘Create With Joy’ shared this beautiful contemporary Christian arrangement.

Transatlantic Orchestra always rocks the season and thanks to Sci-Fi author and fellow blogger Alex J. Cavanaugh for reminding me of this awesome number.  Now, I want to plot how to catch some stupid crooks  or maybe I’ll just watch Home Alone!

I stumbled upon this Romanian song shared by a fellow photographer from the Thought Traveler and you can follow along with the lyrics in English to December, here.

I borrowed the next song pick from fellow BoTBs bud, Robin.

I will close with one of my own inspirational choices from last Christmas by The Piano Guys and David Archuelette (American Idol Season 7 runner-up).

What’s your favorite Christmas mewsic to listen to, contemporary or traditional? 😉

I’m taking a break from Blogosphere until after the New Year.  My regular posts are scheduled, so I plan to pop in to respond to comments and do return visits as time permits.  I’m certain you understand and more than likely you’re doing the same thing.  Have a joyous time celebrating the holiday season!
