Jack’s Patch #WW #SWF #Hodgepodge Q&A #BoTB Results

Hello, Kittens & Pups! There’s too much to do with the upcoming holidays and making everything into a chore just isn’t fun, so the rest of the year I’m taking things slow in Blogosphere.  Smartphone technology is just super cool with a camera on-the-go right in your pocket. Even old technology is awesome. I used my previous iPhone 5s for the last time to capture this photo (near the Target on Northshore Drive just off south I-140 (Pellissippi Parkway) in Knoxville) in September.

Next is my Wednesday Hodgepodge segment hosted by Joyce. This is an excellent way to get to know your fellow blogger and you’re invited to play alone.

1.  In a rut, in a jam, in the groove, out of synch, off-balance, out of touch…which saying best fits some area of your life currently (or recently)? Explain. I think I can apply each of these to my life but if I had to pick one maybe, I’d say I’m “off-balance“. The approaching holidays always make me off-balance to a degree. That’s why I try to do a little every few days to prepare for the big event. On top of the normal stuff this time of year, I’m helping DD#2 and DSIL from afar with their transition to Maine. Stuck in limbo waiting for their apartment which won’t be ready until next week Wednesday. The place they are staying previously booked their room and there are no other openings. They have to move to another motel and that’s where I come in. I spent a several hours Monday locating a place that’s affordable and pet-friendly.  This was not an easy task but I found a place for them.  Normally, I don’t think finding a place would be difficult but Maine had a horrible storm knocking power out and many still do not have electricity, so locals are taking up the hotel rooms. The demand for materials due to the storm is what’s causing the renovation work lag. Please prayer their apartment is ready soon. The expense is too much for them.

2. What is it about somebody else’s style of work (coworker/employee/shared volunteer project/household chore) that makes you crazy? Why?  Not having been in the corporate world in years and I’m sure there was plenty former co-workers did that drove me crazy but persnickety traits of how you want something done is often engrained in one’s behavior. It used to make my skin crawl when I let anyone help me with anything around the house. I only relinquished to teach my children the basic life skills and responsibilities. It was all I could do to keep myself from going behind them to redo what they did. DH often helped to ease my housework chores by pitching in but it made me feel out of control. I know that’s crazy but I felt that way. Anyhow, it took me years to relax and accept the help. It didn’t matter that the person wasn’t doing it the way I do it what mattered is the job got done freeing up some of my time.

3. What’s a tradition that always makes you feel at home? I feel at home no matter what but I think I know where you’re going with this question. Years ago, I wrote My Heart is Well Content which describes that homey sort of sense.

4. A favorite song with a girl’s name in the title or lyrics? Any reason why this is a particular favorite?  Bread was our favorite band during our dating years.I’m not sure why it is now but “Aubrey” became our song. DH even dubbed me his “Aubrey”. This song is still one of my favorites and I can’t help think on those tender years of two young hearts growing a relationship. It’s been 40 years since those early years and our hearts are still growing…closer!

5. Share a favorite quote, verse, or saying relating to gratitude or thanksgiving. When you realize others don’t have it so good that’s when you see things through new eyes and God’s blessings all around you. This is a lesson I learned many years ago during one of DH’s periods of unemployment and since that time I never take what I have for granted.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I like sketching during my waiting time period for DH while at his appointments with his eye surgeon. This is a good use of time. I rediscovered  the joy of drawing in this past April A-Z Challenge in which I picked Art Sketching Through the Alphabet as my theme and if you’re interested you can read my reflections post that lists all my A-Z prompts. Anyway, while I waited I decided to sketch a barn. In September and October I shared in my not-so Wordless Wednesday contributions a mini series on barns I photographed over the years.

One more piece of randomness, the results of “Up In A Puff Of Smoke” #BoTB showdown clearly was a decisive win for The Rubinoos earning my vote for a victory of 7 to 2. I’ll leave with another sample of the winner’s mewsic. Join me in the next battle on the 15th! 😉

That’s it for now. I’m taking blogging life easy peasy with it being the holiday season. I encourage you to sign up for the latest Curious as a Cathy mews to deliver straight to your in-box!  Have a good day! Save Save Save

10 Get-to-know Cathy facts #AtoZRoadTrip #music

Good-morning kittens & dawgs! Usually, I like to pull together a random chat on Tuesday mornings, but I shared my new blog friend’s upcoming book release to announce. Anywho, I promised Les @ Time Out For Mom that I’d answer her questions (below).

I thought this would be good for newbie’s to Curious as a Cathy to learn more about me with these 10 get-to-know Cathy facts!

  1. Nicknames didn’t get pinned to me all that much, as a kid. My childhood BFF gave me one. You can find out what it is if you want by reading 10 Cathy Facts. My favorite is the one DH gave me. Legs. No, I don’t have long legs. He just likes them.  I love it and it’s a lot better than the ole ball and chain! 😉
  2. I have hazel eyes. Sometimes they appear green and other times they look like chestnut. But, I have yet to see a blue reflection like some people do with their hazel eyes. I’m actually a little jealous.
  3. Do we have to talk hair color? Well…it’s more or less a sandy blonde with shimmering white flecks. I would color my hair, but nothing ever works (OTC) to mask it. So, I think I’m slowly accepting this is the way it’s meant and move on.
  4. I’m truly a girly girl. I love all things girly ~ from a man opening a door for me to wearing heels. There is a lot of in-between stuff that comes with being a girly girl. I make no apologies or excuses for the way I am. I totally embrace being a soft woman and having others see me this way.
  5. My absolute favorite color is soft pink. Nothing says femininity like soft pink does, except maybe white and I do love those colors together.
  6. I’m not sure how to answer the question on my favorite place. Are we talking about vacation place or just in general? I’m going to go with a vacation because that’s simple. I love the New England area, especially the coastline of Maine with all those lighthouses. If you’ve read my blog for a while, then you already know this little tidbit. Maine is a beautiful state and I really want to go back!
  7. Many of the celebs I enjoy watching are from the 80s ~ Tom Selleck, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Pierce Bronson, and Tom Cruise. This list is by no means complete.  I have a soft spot for all these aging actors. The new (or not-so-new) popular actors I like are Antonio Banderas (Assassins, The Legend of Zorro, Expendables 3 )Hugh Jackman (Kate & Leopold),  John Hamm (Mad Men), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Ryan Reynolds (The In-laws & The Proposal), Chris Evans ( The Losers and The Iceman), Jason Statham (Chaos & The Italian Job), George Clooney (O’ Brother Where Art Thou & Ocean series), … If I think about it enough, I can add more names. Maybe, I’ll have to do this as feature post sometime soon to give all my favorites recognition.
  8. I’m a fan of all animals in general, but if I had to pick one maybe a moose or black bear. I have yet to see a moose in life. I became kinda fascinated with them since our first visit to Maine. Unfortunately, we didn’t go to the best part of the state for moose watching. On occasion, we spot a black bear and some elk (the closest thing to a moose I’ve seen) in the Smoky’s. It never fails to make me giddy as a school girl to see woodland creatures in the wild.
  9. Are you kidding me…a favorite song? I don’t know that I have just one favorite tune. You gotta remember this is coming from someone who does two music related posts each week and most days I include a song with my writing. But…I have a very special place in my heart Bread’s music (listen to the full album The Best of Bread below)
  10. Reader’s Digest? lol Actually, reading anything longer than a magazine article is about all I have done for many years. I never read a lot and after I had kids my focus for sitting down with a good book vanished…completely.  I buy interesting e-books with the hopes of changing my crazy mind now the children are all out of the house. Hopefully, the passion others experience for literature will ignite with me.

NOTE: The above hyperlinks are my posts that I thought you might like.

What’s your nickname? Do you have a favorite song? Tell me something new about you!

It’s time to hit the road again and I hope you’ll hop in the backseat for the ride as I head over to meet a few of my fellow A2Zroadsters.

I saw this on FB and couldn't resist sharing. :D

What does Aubrey, Cathy’s Clown, & Rockin’ Robin have in common?

I am so happy to co-host the best virtual dance party in Blogosphere with my lovelies XmasDollyJAmericanSpiceStacy Uncorked, and this month’s honorary co-host Everyday Life.
This week for our 140th edition, we’re partying to “songs with a name of a person in the title or lyrics” as suggest per Helen’s request. Whatever tunes are getting your groove on, then we want to hear them right here on Monday’s Music Moves Me.

My featured song, Aubrey, by Bread was “our” song back in our dating years. It still is one of my favorites. This being said, I decided to make today’s song selections about “us” in bringing two oldies using “our” names from the song title.

Featuring this one and the next just seem so right together. Wouldn’t you agree?

What I like about this song is not only has DH’s first name, but he used this song every night when he signed off the radio. If you’ve followed for a while then you may remember this tid-bit that he was a DJ at a local radio station in high school. I know cool, huh?

Did you figure out what Aubrey, Cathy’s Clown, & Rockin’ Robin have in common? It’s all about us – DH & me! 😀

PhotobucketAre you ready to get started? Admission to this awesome dance party is totally doable. Just grab XmasDolly…well not XmasDolly, but her button here and display it somewhere on your blog and put up your favorite YouTube video (you’ll find the weekly musical themes posted in her sidebar) for everyone to enjoy.

A Walk Through ETN Veterans Memorial

As I walked through the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial in downtown Knoxville last Friday, all I could think about is our freedom.  Freedom is anything, but free. It comes with a very steep price.  The thousands of lives lost etched in granite before my eyes was only a sample of this nation’s rich sacrifice over the years to keep her people free.  Remember… Freedom, keep walkin’ keep on your toes and don’t you stop talkin’ about freedom…

If we stop talkin’ about freedom then we may just lose it. God bless the men and women who serve us so well!

Angela from Mommy Time Out and I would like to thank you for joining us for another edition of  Wayback Wednesdays. To participate in this blog hop you don’t have to follow a bunch of rules. It’s simple! Just link up your blog, twitter, or Facebook below (only one please).

Happy Anniversary, Darling!

Love forever and always, Cathy

The Carpenter’s 1972 #2 billboard hit did not play at our wedding but it would have been awesome had it been one of our choices. Incidentally, I stumbled upon the most interesting trivia. Did you know We Only Just Begun was originally written for a bank TV ad? Who would have guessed, huh?

Our wedding song picks were two of our favorites by Bread. One of the two was….

The line from this song, You keep your rights, I’ll take your nights. No one can lose when we turn the lights out actually embarrassed me when sung on our wedding day. That was then, this is now. I may sing these words myself…eh em…just saying.

My Wedding Music By Bread From 1979

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me with Marie from Xmas Dolly,  head conductor and helping her to make sure things runs smoothly on the Love Train are co-conductors: Lorie from The Shewbridges of Central Florida, CALLIE from JAmericanSpice, and Stacy from Stacy Uncorked!

I love rockin’ on Mondays! I just love it when we can share the tunes rolling around inside our noggins, don’t you? There’s always a lot of music locked away just screaming to get out.

This week’s theme is “Songs played at your wedding (or the year of your wedding). If not married your favorite song when you were 21“.

DH and I married June 9, 1979 at Summitt Missionary Baptist Church in rural West Virginia where we attended. This is so retro, I know. Here’s to the couple!

Robin’s close friend, Tony Vance, (they were in a band together) song these two Bread songs at our ceremony.

Robin doesn’t play the drums anymore, but Tony still plays guitar and sings. He now jams for the Lord. Rock on, Tony! He’s the dude wearing glasses and a brown t-shit singing lead. Check out the video…
