#AprilA2Z Art Sketching Through the Alphabet “A” + #BoTB

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Hello, y’all! I’m delighted you joined me. Let me being by saying if you ever land on my homepage, then you’ll notice in my side menu a list of my recent blog posts and you’ll easily spot the A2Z entries because I’ve included the hashtag at the beginning of the post title like today’s followed with the daily alphabet prompt.

Okay now that’s out-of-the-way, let me say, I am not an artist. What I mean is I did not study art other than two years in high school. I do not teach art.  In fact, I have done very little art sketches since 1980. I like to doodle. I have some artist ability.  Ever since I started blogging I’ve glimpsed at other people’s work. Sometimes people will share their poetry with their doodling and others have art journals where they get really creative.  I always felt inspired to do this but never got around to doing it and that’s where the April A to Z challenge comes in.  I decided it’s time to stop putting this off and get started, so that’s when the challenge theme was born to try my hand at art sketching through the alphabet.

For the “A” alphabet prompt, I decided to drawn an angel because I believe angels are all around us, heavenly and earthly angels.

This is my first sketch.

I titled this sketch, “Weeping Angel” Why does she weep? She weeps for the pure of heart, whose love is unconditional and their good intentions scorned by vexed words and no gratitude for the love extended.

I did two others many days later (see below) but the above sketch is my favorite. Here are the other two.

Warrior Angel

I used online images to model my angels after. Sometimes sites offered step-by-step instructions and other times I just saw a picture to go by.

Reflective Angel

**All art sketched in Mead Academie Sketch Diary with Tombow H, 3B, & 6B high-quality charcoal pencils**

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to share more than one sketch per day but I’m just drawing whatever I want as the mood moves me. I plan to draw more angels after the challenge and at which time I will share my newest sketches with you.

Hopefully, what I share every day will encourage you to do something that interests you that you put off for a long time. Maybe you feel like I did (notice past tense), that you can’t do it. My advice is, just do it because you’ll surprise yourself at what you CAN do! 🙂

I play with a group of mewsic junkies twice a month in Battle of the Bands which happens to coincide today and I invite you to weigh in with your vote. There’s not wrong way here, except if you don’t vote. *smile* Normally, I pick two artists singing the same cover song then I ask for you to pick your favorite but today I’m picking two different songs with two different artists to match my alphabet theme – Angels.

Which “Angel” song did you like best?

You can leave your answer in comments and if you feel like it, you can tell me why you liked your pick the best! Next Saturday, I’ll share the results of this showdown! If you like the idea of BoTB, then I encourage you to check with Stephen who manages the BoTB participation list on his site for more cool battles!

How many times have you participated in the A-Z Challenge? Are you a fun doodler or serious artist? Any suggestions to offer a novice? What inspirational “A” subject(s) should I sketch next?

Now, I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along.  On the weekends I unplug from the Internet to spend time with DH but I will respond to comments and do return visits ASAP. Thanks for including me in your day and I’ll see you on Monday for the next installment of Art Sketching through the Alphabet!

Love Me Tender #WW An Italian Vs a Frenchman in #BoTB

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs! It looks Wednesdays this month is going to another dual blog post. That’s ok, it’s all about the love and fun we share for one another anyhow, right? ;  Getting my beautiful Valentine’s Day rose provided a good photo-op using it as a prop in these shots.  For a long time, I wanted to photograph a single red rose with my pearls DH got me for our 30th anniversary and finally I got it!

The following image, I shared the week before last in the CTST part of my post. I opened it in Pixelmator to give it a makeover adding an antique overlay to the background, then applying the Bouvardia Vignette effect.

Below, I added an icy heart overlay, a freebie resource I downloaded, here.  I put our initials in the frosty heart giving my creation a special touch.

Here’s another image I shared on Friday in CTST but I reinvented that photo-art creation with new effects today.  Which do you like the best this one or the one from Friday?

Okay, you not-so WW crowd, you’re here and there’s no need to rush off just yet. I invite you to stick around for the second half to help pick the next winner in March 1st Battle of the Bands.

All the love I feel thanks to DH gave me the purrfect song choice. I’m going with the King of Rock n’ Roll’s classic hit Love Me Tender, a re-work of Aura Lee first performed by Frances Farmer in 1936.  Just for the fun, I thought I’d use two foreign mewsicians to perform Elvis’s song in An Italian VS a Frenchman in BoTB!

Representing Italy, Ricky Shayne.

France’s singer, Johnny Hallyday.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional).

Which artist gets your vote, Italy (Ricky Shayne) or France (Johnny Hallyday)?

The fun continues with more epic battles underway and I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.  Check back, next week same place and time to see if your pick gets named the winner! 😉

I hope you’ll join me noon tomorrow for Thursday Movie Picks!

December Songs #BOTB Showdown Results

Puritan's Pride Vitamins
dsc_7552-dillsboro-nc

This is from our annual Dillsboro, North Carolina outing to see the beautiful luminaries and decorations from Dec. 9th. It’s a real magical treat to experience and this young gal was playing her violin lively. I don’t know how she did it with the temps being in the low 30s. My fingers were freezing off!

In last week’s BoTB, I used two December songs in my battle.  Tchaikovsky’s “December” VS Pandolfi’s “Once Upon a December”.

Tchaikovsky’s song transported me to a Christmas long ago on the dancefloor with women in long flowing dresses and men in formal attire waltzing in a beautifully decorated room whereas Pandolfi’s surreal arrangement felt soothing to the soul and I dare say if I allowed myself to listen to this mewsic at bedtime then it would lull me peacefully to sleep.

How did these two songs go head-to-head?  Like me, most preferred the soft, romantic piece of Contender # 2 nearly making this showdown a shutout with 9 to 2 victory.

To see how the other showdowns went, I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.

I’m taking a break in Blogosphere with limited activity for the holidays but plan to resume things after the first of the new year.  My scheduled posts are set and I hope you’ll come join me tomorrow for latest Friday Sillies for a few Christmas Giggles. This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with another Pandolfi song for your enjoyment.

Have a songtastic day and a very Merry Christmas!

December Songs #BoTB Showdown

Hello, Kittens and Dawgs! I went into this month with Battle of the Bands in mind I knew I wanted a motif but not a Christmas theme.  In today’s showdown, I won’t ask you to vote on a cover song by two different artists.  Instead, I’ve picked two new-to-me songs because this is my birth month (yesterday was my birthday) for you to decide on in December Songs #BoTB Showdown!

December Song #1

December Song #2

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional).

Which December song gets your vote?

The fun continues with more epic battles underway and I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.

I hope you’ll join me for Friday Sillies + a whole lot of other Friday fun stuff!

Have a songtastic day!

My December #BOTB results

dsc_7425

Hello, Kittens and dawgs!  Yesterday DH and I spent the whole day in the mountains. We ventured to a few of our favorite western North Carolina mountain communities – Bryson City and Dillsboro and on our way home we stopped in Pigeon Forge to see the lights at The Island (picture above is a tiny sample).  I will share more pictures either for Skywatch Friday or next week’s edition of Wordless Wednesday or maybe both times. I’ll just keep you guessing so you’ll have to keep a close tab on my site. 😀 Yes, I’m sneaking like that.  Now on to why you’re really here and that’s to learn the outcome of My December #BoTB showdown.

In this round, I pitted Josh Groban against Scala & Kolacny Brothers covering Linkin’ Parks My December.  The battle tipped heavily to one side and if you’ve followed comments then you know already who the winner is.  I preferred Josh Groban’s cover just like nearly everyone else giving him a decisive victory of 11 to 2!

To learn how other BoTBs turned out, I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.

I hope you’ll join tomorrow for Friday Sillies and other Friday fun stuff.  This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with the sound of Christmas with Josh Groban.

Have a songtastic day!
