My December #BOTB results

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

dsc_7425

Hello, Kittens and dawgs!  Yesterday DH and I spent the whole day in the mountains. We ventured to a few of our favorite western North Carolina mountain communities – Bryson City and Dillsboro and on our way home we stopped in Pigeon Forge to see the lights at The Island (picture above is a tiny sample).  I will share more pictures either for Skywatch Friday or next week’s edition of Wordless Wednesday or maybe both times. I’ll just keep you guessing so you’ll have to keep a close tab on my site. 😀 Yes, I’m sneaking like that.  Now on to why you’re really here and that’s to learn the outcome of My December #BoTB showdown.

In this round, I pitted Josh Groban against Scala & Kolacny Brothers covering Linkin’ Parks My December.  The battle tipped heavily to one side and if you’ve followed comments then you know already who the winner is.  I preferred Josh Groban’s cover just like nearly everyone else giving him a decisive victory of 11 to 2!

To learn how other BoTBs turned out, I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.

I hope you’ll join tomorrow for Friday Sillies and other Friday fun stuff.  This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with the sound of Christmas with Josh Groban.

My December #BOTB showdown

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Welcome to My December, Kittens and Dawgs! This is my favorite time of the year. December is my birth month and is the month for my favorite holiday. Not worry, though. I won’t be doing a showdown featuring a Christmas tune. I admit I was tempted but I decided to do something different.

In this first battle of December, I’m using Linkin Park’s My December. Written by band member, Mike Shinoda, while on the road this song captures a guy’s heartache after a fight with his girlfriend and how he wants her back.

The thing I like about this somewhat new-to-me song is the music more than the lyrics.

The first contender is a very well-known artist with awesome smooth vocals with a very calming cover. Please listen to Josh Groban.

The second contender is a new-to-me discovery and their mewsic style covering My December is rather nice and soothing, which almost makes me think of Christmas. Please listen to Scala & Kolacny Brothers.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. Who gets your vote, Josh Groban or Scala & Kolacny Brothers?  Please tell me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional)! 😉

The fun continues with more epic battles underway and I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players. I hope you’ll join me tomorrow for a few laughs with Friday Sillies and more Friday fun stuff. I’ll leave you with yet another cover (not included in the showdown) of an unknown artist who closely matches Linkin Park. What do you think?

Have a songtastic day!

Victory songs #BOTB showdown

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Hello Kittens and dawgs! I’m feeling pretty good with the way things went down in last week’s presidential election. I can tell you a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders, too.

In today’s BoTB edition, I’m going to throw two different victory songs at you and ask you to pick the one that best describes how you feel.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional).

Who gets your vote, the theme song from Rocky, Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti or the theme song from Chariots of Fire by Vangelis?

The fun continues with more epic battles underway and I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for the update list of players.

Thanks for stopping by and you’re invited to join me tomorrow for Not-so Wordless Wednesday.

Have a songtastic day!

Revolution #BoTB showdown

Good morning, kittens & dawgs! It’s November. Election day is 7 days from now. Have you voted? Speaking of which I know some of you voted in my October 15th BoTB while I was on hiatus and I didn’t make it back to share the results.

In the Pink Moon #BoTB showdown, I asked you to pick your favorite artist between Meshell Ndegeocello and Walt Mink. The vote was tight. I went with Mink. I preferred his vocals and uptempo over his rival but in the end, Ndegeocello clinched the victory with only a two point lead.

I thought with the fate of America waiting in the balance on November 8th, I thought today’s BoTB song choice is a perfect fit, the Beatles Revolution (reference only, please don’t vote on the original version).

Contender #1 is an English Pop Supergroup started in 1985 by Genesis founding member, Mike Rutherford.

Contender #2 covers this popular song country-pop style.

Who gets your vote, Mike & The Mechanics or Rascal Flatts?

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional). Are ya going with

The fun continues with more epic battles underway below.

I invite you to visit, Stephen (at the top of the list), if you’d like to know how this works and/or ask how to join all this madness fun.

A little later in the morning, I plan to throw together a Cathy Chats edition which is a first in a long time post and I’m joining some of my routine random blogging pals.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Pink Moon #BoTB showdown

Hello, kittens & dawgs! It’s mid-month which means it’s time for a new ropinkribbonund of Battle of the Bands. I wanted to spotlight Breast Cancer Awareness by using a song title with “pink” in the title and I decided to go with a new-to-me tune, Pink Moon.

Listed on Rolling Stones Magazine 500 Definitive albums of all time you’ll find Pink Moon at 321. Nike Drake first released this song in 1972. I don’t recall this artist but learned this tidbit interesting about him from RSM….”Drake recorded his last album in a couple of nights, delivered the tapes to Island Records and checked himself into a psychiatric ward. If the music were as dark as the lyrics, it might be unlistenable. But Drake’s soothing vocals and unadorned acoustic picking make Moon unfold with supernatural tenderness.” I won’t be using the original in the showdown but here it is for your enjoyment and reference.

Contender #1 recorded Pink Moon in 2012 and I have not heard of this artist before now. I sought Wikipedia to know more about Meshell Ndegeocello. This is what I found out….“Born Michelle Lynn Johnson is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, bassist, and vocalist. Her music incorporates a wide variety of influences, including funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, reggae, and rock. She has received significant critical acclaim throughout her career and has had ten career Grammy Award nominations. She has been credited for having “sparked the neo-soul movement.” If I read this beforehand then I’d be a little skeptical about listening to her cover. Please, listen to Meshell Ndegeocello (song begins at 0.35 seconds)!

Meshell did a nice job. I liked the slow tempo and her vocals surprised me. With this song, she sounded nothing like her talking voice. Meshell’s rendition is a bit boomy but there’s something almost enthralling about her cover.

The rival, another new-to-me, artist recorded their cover in 1992 and being curious naturally I turned to Wikipedia to learn… “Walt Mink was an American alternative rock power trio formed in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1989 by guitarist/singer/songwriter John Kimbrough, drummer Joey Waronker and bassist Candice Belanoff. The band released four studio albums over the course of their eight-year career.” Turn your attention now to… Walt Mink!

Walt Mink’s uptempo version compared with Meshell Ndegeocello kinda makes me think happy thoughts and gets me movin’ in my chair. I like their cover but I’m gonna let both versions churn awhile inside my head before I decide who gets my vote. Do you know who you like best?

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which artist you like best and why (optional). Are ya going with Meshell or Walt Mink?

The fun continues with more epic battles underway below.

I invite you to visit, Stephen (at the top of the list), if you’d like to know how this works and/or ask how to join all this madness fun.

Thanks for joining in on the fun. I’m still on blog hiatus and I’m thinking about extending it because I’m not able to simply have fun. I need to re-energize! I’ll do my best to make my rounds and if I decide to break just a little longer then I’ll post an announcement on the 18th. Meanwhile, this is Curious as a Cathy signing off with a live performance of Krystle Warren and Teddy Thompson singing Pink Moon and I am giving you the option to include it in today’s battle if you want. It’s up to you! 😉

Have a bandtastic day!
