HS Days One-Hit Wonders #4M & Grateful for ALL Things Quote #Sparks

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! I’m taking life easy in Blogosphere. The holidays are fast approaching and instead of getting stressed about this or that, I’m just going with the flow. Our mewsic theme this week is “One-Hit Wonders from Your High School Days” submitted by today’s Spotlight Dancer, Vandy J from The Testosterone Three and Me. Very cool theme I might say, not that I’m doing a series on this subject or anything. 😉

I graduated in 1980, so my high school years spanned the late 70s. This is currently the decade I’m working on with my #1 One-Hit Wonders series, so I thought I’d pick those one-hit wonders that were a little less known to me, such as my opening song “It Must Be Love” by Alton McClain & Destiny peaking #32 on June 9, 1979 which coincidentally is our wedding date. Yeah, I was a child bride and you can read a little more about it here. Now, stroll down memory lane with my high school years one-hit wonders playlist!

  1. Summer 1976, “Save Your Kisses For Me” Brotherhood of Man, peaked #27
  2. Fall 1977 “Smoke From a Distant Fire” Sanford Townsend Band, peaked #9
  3. Summer 1978 “Dance Across the Floor” Jimmy Bo Horne, peaked #38
  4. Summer 1980 “New Romance” Spider, peaked #39

Some of these one-hit wonders I remember but most I can’t say for sure, except for the #9 charting song. Okay, it’s your turn, what mewsic moves you today?

I invite you to hit the dance floor with my dance partners XmasDolly, Stacy,  & Colette!

This is a weekly hop for mewsic enthusiasts regardless if you follow our weekly theme or not if you have mewsic to share then we’re ready to dance with you. Otherwise, I ask that you do not link non-mewsic posts below to boost traffic to your site. You’re welcome to leave your URL in comments with a brief description inviting me to check it out. Thank you!

I invite you hop over to McGuffy’s Reader for more “Sparks” of inspiraiton/encouragement. Let’s make the world a better place, one person at a time beginning with #1! 😉

I pulled together a playlist of Contemporary Christian and Country Artists with songs about blessings/gratitude prior to knowing today’s mewsic theme and instead of ditching it, I decided to share it in this segment. Hey, what can I say, I love mewsic!  This is the season of reflection and a time to express gratitude for everything in you life no matter how small or how difficult because we have it better than most. We just need to open our eyes to receive the blessings in all shapes

  1. “We Are Blessed” All Sons & Daughters
  2. “I Could Not Ask For More” Sara Evans
  3. “Blessings” Laura Story
  4. “It’s a Great Day to be Alive” Travis Tritt
  5. “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” Matt Redman
  6. “But For The Grace of God” Keith Urban
  7. “Good Good Father” Chris Tomlin
  8. “Live Like You Were Dying” Tim McGraw

I’m chillaxing in Blogosphere with the upcoming holidays. There’s no need to add stress to one’s life. This is a season of blessings and good cheer, so enjoy it – live in the moment! Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll see ya around the cyber block soon! X💋X💋, Cathy

Gorgeous Sky & Choo-Choos SWF + CTST Vol. 2

Hello, Kittens and Dawgs!  Last week, I started sharing two of my regular Friday segments, Skywatch Friday and Celebrate the Small Things on Thursday as a way to make the content more enjoyable for all who stop by.

In my Skywatch Friday section today, I’m taking a look back to our December day trip to Bryson City and Dillsboro, North Carolina.  These two towns are about 30-minutes apart.  We had a lovely time strolling around Bryson City and shared some of those photos here and here.

We were in these mountain communities in the middle of the week and there were no worries of crowds or traffic.  When we got to Dillsboro, we decided to swing by to see the left-behind movie scene props from Harrison Ford’s hit flick, The Fugitive.

I photographed this last in late fall 2013.  The angle and exposure were not the best in those shots, so I was glad to have another chance for a do-over.

This time I zoomed in more for a better view and in the below picture if you click to enlarge you should be able to read Illinois Dept. of Correction on the side of the bus.

It was a splendid day for early December to be outdoors soaking up the sunshine even with the occasional wind gusts.

After we got done in Dillsboro, we stopped off to see the Balsam Mountain Inn and as the veil of night fell, we venture to Pigeon Forge on our way home to enjoy the lights.

Today, I’m Celebrating the Small Things include…

I know I’ve said it before but I’m celebrating living in a place I love and can have many do-overs on photo-ops or moments to just soak up the beautiful mountain atmosphere.  I know there are some who visit may only have that once in a lifetime experience or perhaps an annual trip to this part of the country that we call home. I count us truly blessed to live here and do not take a moment of it for granted.

What are you celebrating?

Tomorrow, I invite you to join me for some social media fun and your weekly dose of laughter with Friday Sillies.

Now on Thursdays – Skywatch Friday & CTST Vol. 1

Hello, Kittens and Dawgs! New years mean new beginnings.  I felt for a while that my Friday posts are too long to enjoy and I decided to make some temporary changes. If these changes work then I’ll make them permanent. For now, it’s experimental, so please hang with me while I make adjustments.

The first thing I’m doing is presenting Skywatch Friday on Thursday and here are today’s photo contributions.  At the end of November wildfires in the Smoky Mountains did 500 million dollars worth of damage killing more than a dozen people and injuring hundreds more. These photos cannot tell the horror of this disaster but you most certainly can see the scares in its aftermath.

swf-1-5-2017-dsc_7711-exp-saturation

The above view, I’m facing the Sugarlands Valley and the below picture is to my backside. The hillsides from south of Gatlinburg going across 441 toward Cherokee you can see evidence of the wildfires.  What is surprising is you can still smell the burnt wood!

swf-1-5-2017-dsc_7710

I’m not an expert and know nothing about how firefighters battle a blaze but it seems they did a great job at containing the fire given the horrific conditions they were up against – drought and gusty winds.

Along with weekly sky view photographs, I’m including my Celebrate The Small Things segment.

I’m celebrating…the countless volunteers who fought the wildfires and to those serving the community.  I celebrate the kindhearted people who donated time, resources, and money in help with the rebuilding process. I’m thankful to not know of such things and far away from this terror.  I am more so grateful there are a lot of compassionate folks who want to help my fellow East Tennessee neighbors. I celebrate the good news that the authorities arrested two teenagers suspected of setting fire to the Smoky’s and honestly I hope the law doesn’t go easy on them.  Dolly Parton held a telethon last month and raised $9M for Her People and if you’d like to contribute funds, then you can do so through her site, here.

One last thing I’m celebrating is what I call the perfect Christmas gift, not for me or DH but DD#2 and her husband.  We knew exactly what we what to get them soon after they got home from their Maine vacation after a disappointing upset of not finding a Maine-themed, Maine-made mug. That’s when I began by asking Google and to my happy surprise found the perfect mugs from Peasley Pottery.

DD#2 and her husband went bonkers over the mugs.  She photographed her mug filled with homemade hazelnut hot chocolate with whipped topping for me to use on my blog. Looks delicious, eh? Yum!  The owner and potter, Nancy Peasley, was wonderful to work with.  There was a hiccup with our order. She did an outstanding job in making sure things got straightened out and because she did such a fantastic job, I decided to add a clickable button in my side menu for others to find Peasley Pottery. I like helping people out who deserve it, don’t you? I will tell you this, we plan to buy some of these moose mugs for ourselves. That’s how much we like them! 😉

Penguin Giggles #humor + SWF & CTST

wave-like-you-dont-care

Hello, Kittens & dawgs! This week dragged a bit since DH worked the day following Christmas. He doesn’t have any pay leave yet being an hourly employee but that’s ok.  We’re happy he has a job.  I can just say, TGIF! Whoo-hoo, let’s kick off the fun with a few cute Penguin Giggles!

I spotted this adorable video on Facebook.  If this doesn’t make you smile then you’re in serious need of help.

I’m confident that adorable video put a wide grin on your face, so let’s keep the momentum going with some fun Penguin image captions and jokes.

Religious Zookeeper

The devout zookeeper lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences out at the zoo. Three weeks later, a penguin walked up to him carrying the Bible in its beak. The zookeeper couldn’t believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the penguin’s beak, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, “It’s a miracle!” “Not really,” said the penguin. “Your name is written inside the cover.  *Joke: source

I would love to have a baby penguin because they are so darn cute.  The downside is, it would grow up and its adorableness would go away.  Maybe, I’ll just buy a Penguin stuffed toy. 🙂

1FFBadgeI’m taking a bit of blog break until the first of the new year and won’t be participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins meme hosted by Annie and Ellen. You’re certainly welcome to join in the fun and this is how it works: every Thursday four fun and easy blank statements are posted for us to borrow, complete, and share on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing. I’ll be back for the fun the first Friday in January. May 2017 hold good health, much happiness, and may the Lord grant you all your needs. God bless you, dear friends!

SWFToday’s SWF photo contribution is one more last look at Christmas 2016 from The Island in Pigeon Forge of The Wheel.   The holiday is over but the spirit of the season lives on forever, especially in the digital world.

Please note I’m making a tiny change, I’m breaking my Friday post act starting next week.  Look for my Skywatch Friday and Celebrate The Small Things contributions to roll out together on Thursdays.

I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate The Small Things. Here’s my list of celebrations!

I’m celebrating… that DD#2 and her husband loved the vintage style Christmas stockings I made them (this is the hush-hush DIY project I mentioned a time or two recently).  Last year close to Christmas DD#2 asked if I would make them but I wasn’t able to do it because I couldn’t find all the materials. I’m delighted things came together and that they love the stockings.  I am happy! I didn’t forget to take a few snapshots of the finished product to share with my peeps.

I hope to share in the future what’s needed to do this project but meanwhile feel free to ask questions in comments and I’m happy to assist!

Let’s begin celebrating with Friendship Friday and Friday Features linky parties where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration!

Merry Christmas Wishes

snowy-church-christmas

We don’t have snow in East Tennessee this Christmas or at least not at our house.  I’m sure on top of ole Smoky you might find traces of the white stuff, though.  Whatever the weather is like where you are, I hope the warmth of the season fills your heart and home with love from friends and kin.  Thank you for the gift of your friendship.  I am looking forward to continuing to build on what we started this year or years past.  May God’s glory brought down from heaven and laid in a manager shine in your life always. ?

merry-christmas-messsage

DH gets me Christmas mewsic just about every year and this year is no exception.  He got me the iTunes Happy Holiday album by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, which I like a lot.  I hope you enjoy it, too!

While you listen to the Christmas cheer, I want to share with you a beautiful poem entitled “Gifts” written by my good friend.

Gifts
by: McGuffy Ann Morris

I’ve already shopped, bought gifts galore,
then wrapped them up with bows and more.
I decorated the house inside and out;
each year brighter, without a doubt.
Still, something is missing; I don’t know what;
I must figure it out: no if, and, or but.
I baked lots of goodies to give and to share,
packaged them all up with love and care.
I wrote out cards from a very long list;
I don’t think there’s anyone I may have missed.
Still, something’s missing, what can it be?
It’s Christmas Eve, around the tree!
Lights are all lit, stockings are hung;
ready for Mass as church bells are rung.
Outside, what’s missing? I finally know.
A gift from the heavens: it’s Christmas snow!
Each snowflake, a miracle sent from above;
each miracle a gift of God’s perfect love.
Silent and holy, the snow pure and white,
reflections of God’s love born Christmas night.

Merry Christmas, Kittens & Dawgs! This week zipped by like a flash.  I was so busy doing this and that, that I didn’t have time to get bored or wish for Friday or anything but here it is Friday again.  TGIF!  Let’s get this holiday weekend off right with a few Christmas giggles.

The night I photographed The Island in Pigeon Forge, we stopped at The Christmas Village.  This is the Christmas Inn across the road.  Once again my exposure was too dark.  The picture was ordinary but I saw potential.  After putting it through Pixelmator – brightening the exposure,  cropping, and adding some stars in the blank sky I am satisfied.  I know, I know I’m cheating on my sky view shot but I hope you enjoy my SWF photo contribution.

I’m celebrating… having lots of fun baking Christmas goodies and making homemade candies for the season.  This is something that gives me great joy but what makes me even happier is to share my creations.  Hopefully, I can find a few people namely DD#1, DD#2, DSIL, and DS to pass my love to and if not… we’ll just eat it all ourselves. 🙂

Redneck Christmas #humor + SWF, Fill-ins, & CTST

tgif3

Hello, Kittens & Dawgs!  For the first time in a loooong time I can say, Thank God it’s Friday!   Whoo-hoo! Yes, this is the first full week for DH to be at his new job.  Now the weekends have a new meaning for me once again.  Let’s get the show on the road with a few giggles.  Let’s kick the weekend off with a bit of Redneck Christmas humor.

redgraphic

fs-12-16-2016-red-neck-nativity

After DD#2 moved out, she told me about her best friend’s tradition of burning his Christmas tree. Up until that time I’d never heard of such a custom.  I reckon some consider it to a reckneck thing, as it came up in my search. Enjoy!

Believe it or not, burning your Christmas tree isn’t a redneck thingy but actually has a spiritual origin, which you can read about it here.   Also, you might wanna read The Night Before a Redneck Christmas just for laughs.

Next, I’m sharing with my weekly SWF contribution!

SWF

Last week, I shared a phenomenal Christmasy night shot of The Wheel at The Island in Pigeon Forge,  Tennessee.  On the same day, I took that photo we were in Bryson City, North Carolina earlier and I captured a beautiful blue sky over the Swain County Heritage Museum.

1FFBadgeLet’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with Annie and Ellen.   How does it work?  Every Thursday four fun and easy blank statements are posted for us to borrow, complete, and share on our site.  The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

1. My favorite Christmas Song(s) is/are just about everyone, so how can I name a single one, but I could do without hearing anything remotely by Miley Cyrus ever again.

2.My most meaningful Christmas ornament/decoration is naturally my Fontanini Nativity scene because it reminds us during the holiday season of our Savior’s lowly birth and the reason He came to this world.

3. My favourite holiday treat is nearly everything because I enjoy baking cookies and cakes or making homemade candies at Christmas.  It’s hard to say one’s my favorite but if you force me to pick then I’d say my Chocolate Covered Cherries.

4. A holiday tradition in my house is to go see the lights around town and/or in the Smoky Mountain communities like Dillsboro, North Carolina.   There’s something magical about seeing festive colorful lights.

Beginning next week,  I am off from blogging until after January 1st.  I’ve scheduled my regular posts but anything requiring special attention such as the Friendly Fill-ins segment I plan to not include.  I’ll be back and may you have a joyful Christmas celebration! 😉

I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate The Small Things. Here’s my list of celebrations!

I’m celebratingDH’s first week on his new job.  Yay!  It’s wonderful to resume a normal routine again and I see the delight on DH’s face each morning as he headed off to work.  We’re not just celebrating but count our blessings every single day for God’s goodness.  Another thing I’m celebrating is I finished that DIY project I mentioned in one of blog posts.  I can’t say what it is at the moment because it’s actually a surprise for someone and I never know when that said person, may read my blog.  However, I will share more after the new year.

What are you celebrating?
