Skywatch Friday: Snow in the Smoky’s

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

The cold weather is keeping me indoors a lot lately, which means no new photos to share. That being said, I have a need to create and decided to use my photo-editor of choice to play with today’s picture, Snow in the Smoky’s.

Snow in the Smoky's

Photo-editing changes: cropped image, added copyright, and applied the light leak effect (that’s the light spots on my photo).

I bet you five bucks there is snow on the Smoky’s now. The weather has been perfect for it all week!

Iโ€™m linking up with the SWF team and invite you to join other photo enthusiasts across the net. Next up, Iโ€™m joining Lexa in Celebrate the small things.

I celebrate…

  • hot tea, hot chocolate, hot coffee! A hot beverage in my hand makes me warm and snugly all over.
  • cozy, fluffy socks and plush sweats! This house isn’t well insulated, so I dressing in layers helps when not active indoors.
  • well stocked pantry! It’s very good that we aren’t forced to grocery shop on the coldest days and have the luxury in picking the best day of the week to run errands.
  • not living in an area where the temperatures are colder (and stay longer), and the wind is stouter, and there’s lots of snow! I really am blessed living in East Tennessee. We generally experience mild conditions during the winter. The worse part is usually when it’s cold for a long time that any precipitation we get is in the form of ice and that’s not good. ๐Ÿ˜
  • getting rid of a little more clutter! Being stuck indoors isn’t all that bad. It forces us to do constructive things, like throw out things we don’t need anymore. lol

Life should be celebrated, even when it seems like you have no reason to. Just look around, I bet you’ll see something good! What are you celebrating?

One way to celebrate is withย  Friendship Friday and Friday Features Linky Party, where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration to boot! That’s a wrap for now. Before you go, check out my latest edition of Battle of the Bands up next. Have a fototastic day!

Cold January morn #WW

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs!ย  DH and I haven’t ventured to the mountains, since mid-December. Naturally Christmas preparations and activities surrounding the holiday kept me busy, but now the gray, cold days of winter bid me to stay indoors. This is a normal pattern.

That being said, I haven’t picked up my camera. I thought, why not reinvent some of my photos and went through my archives to play with using my photo-editor of choice. The cold is casting a mood in how I create.ย  See for yourself…

icy, snowy morning in East Tennessee

Not to worry, this isn’t our current conditions or at least I hope it isn’t! I captured this image last year. Our weather roller coaster blasts us with arctic air one minute and the next it feels like spring. It’s cold now, so I thought I’d share it with you today. I used my photo-editor of choice to amp the grey scale from this dismal day. Do you feel the chill?

This week’s featured photographer, yes, it’s back, is…

Jill @Daily Bread!

Go by to see what amazing pix she’s sharing today! Kindly include your Wordless or (not-so-wordless) Wednesday link below to join the party. It would be awesome, if you can show a little blog love by inviting your friends to join in on the fun, too! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Thanks for popping in and I hope you’ll decide to come back on Friday to vote in my newest edition of Battle of the Bands.

Have a fototastic day!

Skywatch Friday Christmas Lights in Gatlinburg, TN

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

Last week I mentioned going to two Smoky Mountain foothills communities to enjoy the beautifully decorated buildings.ย  It was a gorgeous day, as you can clearly see in this picture taken at The Apple Barn & Cider Mill in Pigeon Forge.DSC_5774

I shared some day shots of Gatlinburg on #WW The Village if you want to take a peak, but the main reason we went were to see the evening Christmas lights pageantry. The weather was mild and the crowd was light ~ prime conditions for casually walking around.

In The Village, we bought some candy at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen. A family tradition we’ve done over the years off and on. This was an on year. ๐Ÿ˜€

DSC_5898This is another shopping plaza across the street from The Village. I love the gas lanterns! It adds that old world charm, don’t you think?

There’s something magical about this place at Christmas. I love the sense of wonder that fills me; the best part is that feeling lingers on for hours and capturing the moments then lets me to relive that sense of wonder any time.

Do you have a favorite town to visit at Christmas? Is this something you do yearly?

Skywatch Friday Moonshine Ridge Country Store

Almost two years ago I shared with my Wordless Wednesday group photos of Moonshine Ridge Country Store & Cafe and I decided to revisit with a few shots that didn’t make the original post.

I love the sun glare on these two shots. I used my then new iPhone5s to get these pictures.IMG_2267

I remember it was a pretty day with a bit of nip unlike our 70ยบ we had yesterday and forecast for this weekend.

See more fabulous sky shots with the SWF team and photo enthusiasts across the net.

It’s time for Celebrate the small things.

I celebrate…

  • yesterday’s fun in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg (two Smoky Mountain foothills communities) enjoying the beautifully decorated shops and lights.
  • making our special Christmasy breakfast (Smoked Salmon Omelet, Hash Brown Potatoes with Bell Peppers & Onions, Whole Wheat Pancakes, & Blueberry Syrup ) for the first time in many years. I plan to share these recipes with you soon, so check back.
  • Christmas music! There’s nothing like the way it makes me feel no matter when I hear it playing.

Skywatch Friday Smoke on the mountains

On Wednesday I shared photos taken the day I captured today’s sky view.

DSC_5641

The early morning clouds rest between peaks giving the illusion that there’s smoke on the mountains. This is how the Smoky Mountains came to inherit its name. Shot captured from Clingmans Dome parking.

It’s time for Celebrate the small things.

I celebrate…

  • getting the car battery and engine debris shield replaced at the dealership with minimal cost.
  • sketching a Minion b-day card for our SIL (see below) and hand-stamping Christmas cards finished.
  • holiday preparation and general baking which I find relaxing.
  • more creative DIY projects in the works with excitement to try my hand at making springerle cookies. I hope to pull together a post in December on this baking artwork!
  • having a few days of beautiful weather this week because the forecast is calling for a cold weekend. The good news is it will be a nice time to do a little baking. ๐Ÿ™‚
