Alf, Woman’s Personality, You Are What You Eat, Alt. Meanings for Common Words, & more Friday Fun Stuff!

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  Every time I see an “Alf” meme it makes me wanna watch that show. You gotta love laugh at an alien whose favorite snack food is a cat. Now, enjoy a few more Friday Sillies!

I lifted the next bit of giggles from a good pal, Stacy Uncorked. 😉

What’s got you laughing/smiling today?

Okay, it’s been a long while since I’ve participated in the Skywatch Friday link up and so I’m excited to share my first image with the group for the new year.  I snapped this last fall shortly after getting my iPhone 8.

How’s the sky looking over you?

Today, I Celebrate The Small Things

I’m celebrating the return of warmer weather even if it’s brief. I’m not a winter person and while I’m trying to not wish my days away, I find it hard to not say things like “I’m ready for spring.” The truth of the matter is,  I am ready for it.   Tomorrow, I may not be celebrating so much  since the cold temps are expected to move into the area tonight. 🙁

I’m celebrating the possibility of snow tonight. Yeah, I don’t make a lot of sense but I do get a bit giddy when the white stuff is in the air especially when it happens on the weekend with no worries of having to get out in it. This is when I can “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” 😀

I’m celebrating for posting each day this week. The weekends I still reserve for downtime, though. I really don’t want to break that cycle. I find it hard enough keeping up with Friday comments and visits.

I’m celebrating the idea of participating in the April A-Z Challenge. I have my theme determined and I probably will begin on it so to make life easier. Are you planning on going another round in the annual event?

What are you celebrating?

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. I would like to ask young people why are you so easy to fall for the latest trends? What happened to being your own person? Isn’t that the point of rebellion to stand apart from others? If you’re following the herd, you are not being unique. You’re just like everyone else!
  2. My favorite fast food restaurant is Chick-Fil-A.
  3. If I could go to any concert of someone still performing, it would be I have no clue because I’m not a concert person. This environment is too loud and crowded to suit me.
  4. My Winter pastime is usually doing more of the same thing I already, because of the obvious, it’s too cold to be outdoors more than I want.

That’s a wrap for now but I hope to see you on the dance floor with a double whammy of Monday mewsic with the 4M gang (theme: Colors in Song Titles) & January Round 2 of #BoTB!

Garfield, Alf, Stupid People, Grumpy Cat, New Year’s Resolutions, & Weird Al

Greetings, Kittens & Dawgs!  How’s the first four days of the new year treating you? This is not only DH’s off Friday but it was a short work week. Whoo-hoo! Now, it’s time for nothing but giggles with some Friday Sillies!

Dear Diet Diary

As a Christmas present this year, my daughter, Cresley [what a thoughtful darling] bought for me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in reasonable shape since being a high school cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Juan Antonio [ooh what a name] who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

Monday

Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Juan Antonio waiting for me.   He is something of a Greek god: he has curly hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Yippee!

Juan Antonio gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skilful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Juan Antonio [call me Tony by now] was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my stomach was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FABULOUS week!   My New Year resolutions will be easy.

Tuesday

I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out of the door. Tony made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air. Later he put weights on it. My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Tony’s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It’s a whole new life for me.

Wednesday

The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. Tony was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for early in the morning; and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Tony put me on the stair ‘monster’. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Tony told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other garbage too.

Thursday

Tony was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late; it took me that long to tie my shoes. That man then took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent a skinny woman to find me. Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine – which I sank.

Friday

I hate that man, Toady or whatever his name is, more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. He is a stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little bighead. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it. Toady wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the flippin’ barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on the health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

Saturday

That person, that Toady, left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing him made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

Sunday

I’m having the Church bus collect me up so I can go to services today and thank God that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter Cresley [the cruel, whingeing creep] will choose a gift for me that is fun: like root canal treatment or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!

Dear Diet Diary sourc credit, here.

And just because it’s been one of those week’s….

I’m really not cut out for winters!

New Year’s Resolution Giggles

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  This is the last Friday Sillies contribution for the year and to kick of the new year off early I’m sharing with you my thoughts on New Year’s resolutions. Enjoy!

Today, I Celebrate The Small Things

I’m celebrating the time spent with DH over the long Christmas weekend and am looking forward to this weekend because it’s a holiday weekend, too. It won’t be as long but it’s still one more day I can spend with him. The good thing is next week will be a only a three day work week for him because Monday is a holiday and then Friday is his scheduled day off. Whoo-hoo!

I’m celebrating having gotten to visit Forest City, North Carolina last Friday. It’s a small community south east of Asheville about an hour. We read about it a few years ago as it was listed in one a travel magazine for having an amazing light display and it did not fail to disappoint, either. Check back next week for my not-so Wordless Wednesday post for a sample!

I’m celebrating the fun of sketching with my Apple Pencil & iPad. It’s a soothing hobby to create without having my table cluttered with drawing parenphenalia all the time. Not that I’m giving charocoal and paper up because I’m not. I like the feel of working with these mediums. Do you want to hear something funny? When I do smudging or blending with my electronic devices I catch myself blowing my finger off. lol

I’m celebrating listening to Christmas mewsic for the last week time this year. I so love, love everything about the holidays, especially the mewsic and it’s always so hard to give it up but I know it’s important to keep things in their proper place so to not wear out a good thing.

What are you celebrating?

I couldn’t resist this last bit of Christmas humor. *snicker-snicker*

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. On New Year’s Eve, I sit in the livingroom with DH to have enjoy a movie marathon evening with pizza and lots of snacks.
  2. One goal I have for 2018 is to make an effort to sketch daily either in my drawing journal or using my Apple Pencil & iPad.
  3. In 2017, I accomplished the April A-Z Challenge but that’s not as the fantasic part, it’s was my that I posted about, Art Sketching Through the Alphabet. I felt inadquate in my artistic ability, so getting over the hurdle to put pencil to paper was a challenge and then to share with the world was another. I told myself life is too short and I didn’t want to regret one day for not trying.
  4. I discovered during the April challenge I possess some art talent in 2017. I’m not a Leonardo deVinci… yet but I am having fun with it and I will never have to worry with the regret of not trying. 😉

Thanksgiving #humor, #CTST, & #FriendlyFillins

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  I debated on posting today but since DH is at work and most of next I’m spending with him then I thought I’d share a mixture of giggles with these Friday Sillies. Enjoy!

This week I went for my last dental post-op appointment for this year and while I was there I had the doctor fix my front tooth. The same place chipped again.

Early night fall makes me think the evenings are longer than they are and am more than ready by 8:30 to hit the hay.

I’m linking Skywatch Friday and if you’re here for a peek at this week’s contribution, kindly click here.

What are you celebrating?  Today, I Celebrate The Small Things with Lexa.  Today, I’m joyfully celebrating DD#2 & DSIL got moved into their new apartment in Brunswick, Maine on Tuesday after spending almost two weeks in a motel.  I know they are more thrilled than me. I celebrate the age of technology all the more and thanks to text and FaceTime we can stay connected with them. Who knows we may become closer despite the distance that now separates us.

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

1. I can’t wait to eat all the desserts on Thanksgiving. Speaking of desserts I found a really yummy cookie recipe at Ida’s place, Wishes, Dreams, & Other Things, and I made it just the other day and mmm, good!

Brown Sugar Pecan Cookies

Category: dessert

Brown Sugar Pecan Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 36 pecan halves or chopped pecans, toasted, optional

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
  • Add in flour, baking soda, and salt beat until combined. Stir in chopped pecans.
  • Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes (or more).
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Shape into 1" balls (I used a 1 tbsp cookie scoop) and place a couple inches apart on lightly greased
  • cookie sheets or parchment paper. Bake 10 minutes or until set (not glossy at all in the middle) and lightly browned at the edges. Cool before frosting (see below).

Notes

Frosting: 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted.

First, combine brown sugar and milk in a small pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil and boil 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in butter. Second, stir in 1½ cups powdered sugar and whisk or beat with a mixer until smooth. If frosting is too thin, add more sugar, but keep in mind it will firm up dramatically within a few minutes. Finally, spread each cookie with about 1 tablespoon of frosting and top with a pecan or chopped pecans. Let frosting set before storing.

SUGGESTIONS:

These cookies spread rather thin when baked. If you prefer a thicker cookie similar to Pecan Sandies then I recommend either decreasing butter or increasing flour. I will make this adjustment the next time I make this recipe.

Also, a trick for frosting the cookies is to keep frosting on burner after you turn it off and frost one cookie at a time because the frosting cools off too quickly to spread. We feel like the cookies probably would be better if I had not added quite so much frosting, so I'll scale back on the frosting next go around.

2. My favorite kind of pie is pecan but I’ve grown to love pumpkin pie over the years which is especially good with lots of Reddi Wipp piled on top.

3. This year, I am particularly thankful for DH’s eye sight after such a scare  earlier in the year with the detached retina.

4. A funny holiday tradition in my/our house is we don’t have one. Yeah, that’s sad, I know, but now I’m eager to read what everyone’s funny holiday traditions are….wait! there is funny tradition in my family. We don’t do it so much except I might if it crosses my mind but this is something my grandpa used to do every year and don’t ask me what it means because I really have no clue. Maybe, you know and can enlighten me.  Anywho, he used to call us first thing or greet us when we walked into their home on Christmas by being the first person to say, “Christmas gift!” FYI, I found the why to this strange custom here if you’re interested.

That’s a wrap for now but I hope to see you on the dance floor for Thanksgiving/Thankful mewsic on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me!

Cute Images of Kids in #DIY Costumes to Make You Smile #FridaySillies #SWF #CTST #FriendlyFillins

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs!  I realize that Halloween is now past us but I got to poking around on Google when I stumbled across a cute DIY costumes worn by kids and I knew I just had to share them with you in my Friday Sillies spot. Enjoy!

Too cute, right? Which is your favorite? Did you have any “Trick or Treaters”?

I’m re-sharing a piece of fall splendor captured on my street a few years ago with the participators of Skywatch Friday and other photo enthusiasts. Unfortunately, we did not get this kind of show this year.

Did you have pretty fall colors in your area? Are all the leaves down?

I’m joining Lexa in I Celebrate The Small Things. Today, I’m celebrating…

  •   … sorta making contact with Lexa (yes, our host). She accepted my FB friend request and she even mentioned me in a comment, so yeah she’s still among us. I know, I know what’s one to think after a long absence? I was worried about her but hoping for the best. She’s still in the recoup mode which I totally get. That was so me about four years ago after getting horribly sick from an acute diverticulitis that resulted in 2-weeks in the hospital and surgery in the end.
  • the end of summer’s heat and return of cooler temps.  I tried living in the moment despite for the first time this summer but honestly I secretly looked forward to the nip of autumn, which we really got last weekend!
  • the holidays. Thanksgiving is three weeks away and I eager to begin prep for our feast and then all things Christmas!
  • … the continued good progress with DH’s eye after retina attachment surgery.  It looks like he can wait until next spring to have the oil bubble removal surgery (the oil bubble is used to hold the retina in place). We’re not sure if the cataract surgery will be done at the same time or separately.  There’s always the possibility that removing the oil bubble can cause the retina to detach but we’re hopeful because at the end of next March is the one year anniversary of the retina surgery and his eye will have a long healing period. This might play out favorably for him, too. *say prayers, keep fingers crossed*
  • …getting to see DD#2 off for Maine late Wednesday night.  Hopefully by the time this post goes live, she will send a text or call saying they are in Portland. The last 2 -3 weeks have been a whirlwind. I’m going to miss my baby girl!

What are you celebrating?

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

1. My favorite part of November is Thanksgiving. I love the holidays!

2. Every November, I work frantically preparing our Thanksgiving meal in advance and items like the the turkey, ham, and dressing I make enough to put in the freezer for Christmas. This makes things easier in December..

3. For me, peace is turning everything over to God. Ultimately everything is in His hands anyhow and that’s the best place for my concerns to be.

4. So far, my upcoming holiday plans  obviously is a lot of cooking, baking, and candy making. Aside those things I’m not sure what our plans will entail. DH’s weak vision limits his enjoyment but I’m sure we’ll find ways to enjoy the holidays.

I’ll leave with this new-to-me mewsic discovery at 30 Songs About November.

I decided earlier in the week that I need to scale back in Blogosphere with the holidays coming. If you don’t want to miss a single post then join my email subscription to get instant notification of the latest mews! One thing you can bank on is the rest of the year, you’ll find me consistantly on the dance floor and you’re invited to boogie with me on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me (our next theme next week is – your choice)!   X💋X💋, Cathy
