241 years of Independence!

Puritan's Pride Vitamins

We are a land built by many hands of many nationalities. My ancestors came to the modern-day Promise Land from the Isles of Ireland and Scotland. I count my blessings daily for the sweat and tears poured into this country, forging her into a great nation and making my life easier. I will never know the struggles of my forefathers and I consider it a great privilege that I was born FREE

      Barbara,

I grew up listening to Johnny & June Cash. I wasn’t a huge country fan back in those days but as I got older I came to have a greater appreciation for this genre. I actually feel Cash’s humbling spirit in some of his older stuff especially in his “Ragged Old Flag”. His story telling is amazing!

    Hi, Cathy!

This is one of the few mornings of the year I am able to sleep in and that’s exactly what I did today. I am just now having my morning Starbucks and enjoying the batch of patriotic anthems you selected as America observes the Independence Day holiday. It was great to hear that U2 song again. Upon its release, Mrs. Shady and I saw Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York at one of those “Mugs and Movies” theaters where you sit at a table and order from an expanded menu of foods and beverages while you watch the film. Kid Rock’s freedom song and video were inspiring and it was fun to watch James Brown doing his big comeback hit “Living in America” from the movie Rocky IV. My favorite is the spoken word song delivered in inimitable style by the one and only Johnny Cash – an ideal choice as Americans celebrate their freedom this weekend.

I wish you and your family a happy, restful and thankful 4th, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Good to hear you were able to catch some extra Zs this morning. DH works today but has tomorrow off at which time we will sleep in a bit. Last Thursday evening we got up with DD#1 to give her her bday cake and we stayed out too late which then put us in bed even later resulting in only 3 hours sleep. I was a wreck all weekend and am still feeling tired. It takes longer to bounce back. I may grab a nap in a little before I exercise. It’ll do me good. I’m glad you stopped by this morning to enjoy my patriotic mewsic. Here’s to America’s 241 years of Independence – let FREEDOM ring from sea to shining sea!

    Hey Cathy,
Great songs you presented here! I love U2 and haven’t heard this song in so long. I also like Kid Rock, at least most of the songs I hear by him. Great video. Johnny Cash is so cool.

Well, with my business I never get holidays really. I’ll be home dogsitting 14 dogs… Big weekend!
And although I LOVE fireworks, I hope we don’t hear too many because it scares the dogs… 🙁

Happy 4th! Hope you have a fabulous holiday.
    And Happy Anniversary!

      Michele,

I didn’t know too much about Kid Rock before a couple of years ago when DD#2’s husband won a Harley motorcycle and part of the prize included a concert where they saw Kid Rock. He got to go on stage with him, too. That was a neat experience – an all paid trip to Wisconsin or Minnesota. I can’t remember which now. lol I didn’t realize that you are also a dogsitter. I bet you don’t have worry about bad guys trying to come in on you, huh? Thanks for stopping by for a dance!

Indeed America is a great country. If we will step back and see clearly. However it’s sad to see all the hate and filth between the sandwich of it all.
I hope we’ll teach our children the importance of standing strong for our country and to not take it’s freedoms lightly.

It’s always great to dance with you Cathy. Have a wonderful Independence Day celebration! *HUGS*

      Colette,

Unfortunately, as long as the world stands there will always be division and hatred. On top of that mess, we have a generation of entitled people who take America’s freedoms for granted. They think it’s horrible when they can’t get their way 100%. They do not understand what it means to sacrifice. In my opinion, America is the most blessed country in the world. It’s high time people realize this and stop bellyaching about how they have it so bad (they really don’t have it bad like folks from the depression era), looking for others to fix their problems. Thank you for dancing with me!

      Ellen,

Staying home is a good idea considering how bad traffic can be. We got out for a short while yesterday and travels on the Interstate was congested. Downtown Knoxville hosts an annual 4th celebration at the World’s Fair Park but I don’t like being around a huge crowd. I’d rather enjoy the festivities from the comfort of my home, which we did!
