Monday's Music Moves Me

Spirit of Christmas

Good morning Kittens and Dawgs! I’m kicking off the first full week of December with the Spirit of Christmas starting with Ray Charles!

If you’re a fan of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation then you’ll recognize this touching song. The first time I heard this, it brought tears to my eyes. How about you?

Once Thanksgiving passes, then I can’t help but get That Christmas Feeling. Do you?

When it comes right down to it, There’s No Place Like Home for the Holiday with the ones I love and I know you feel the same way.

Do you have a fond Christmas memory you’d care to share?  Did you carry any of your parents’ traditions over to your own? What’s the last Christmas song you listened to prior to visiting me?

I hope you enjoyed this mornings Christmas mewsic and I appreciate you making me a part of your Monday morning.  Also one special announcement,  I offered to fill in as co-host for Monday’s Music Moves Me with XmasDolly for as long as she needs me. This month’s theme is “Christmas anything”! This is our last full week together before DH starts his new job next week, so I’ll do my level best to respond and make return visits in between our activities.  ?

Over the weekend we watched the second chapter in Dolly’s Smoky Mountain Christmas memories (you can watch it here) and her song, Circle of Love touched my heart deeply.

A personal note… Dolly sang her song at the end of the movie and I prefer her singing it best but I couldn’t find a YouTube vid to share with only her.

That’s it for today, don’t forget to join me for not-so Wordless Wednesday!

I born and raised in the Appalachian mountains of southern WV. I was a child bride when I married my high school sweetheart in 1979. We moved to Knoxville, TN to begin our life. Determined to prove nay-Sayers from our community wrong, I completed my education and went on to earn an A.S. in computer programming. From 1983-1987, I worked as a computer system’s manager. That’s a glorified title for someone who trouble shoots and maintains system back-ups. After the birth of our first child in 1988, I took early retirement. What have I been doing for the last 25+ years? I am proud to say, I am a SAHM and for most of those years I home-schooled our three children from K-12. Now, the nest is empty.

    Hi, Cathy!

I hope you and DH had a great weekend. I know you are both giddy with anticipation as his start date nears. I am very happy for you both!

Once again I was sipping my black coffee as I enjoyed your morning Christmas concert. The last Christmas songs I listened to prior to this were your twisted Xmas carols. 🙂 “That Spirit of Christmas” moved me. The voice of the late, great Ray Charles brought a tear to my eyes, especially when that churchy choir joined in. Perry Como’s rich voice was a big part of my childhood. My parents owned his records and played them often. We also watched his weekly TV show together. Perry’s calm, pleasant demeanor and soothing vocals made him an excellent role model for children. I love Dolly Parton and enjoyed this performance of “Circle of Love.” Every time I see Dolly I am reminded of last year’s TV movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors that starred Alyvia Alyn Lind as young Dolly. Alyvia is one of three talented actress daughters of Barbara Alyn Woods known for her roles on One Tree Hill and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids the TV Show.

Thank you for the inspiring mewsic and the good vibrations, dear friend Cathy!

Tom, We had a nice weekend. Things were a bit hectic from mid-week through Friday. DH had to fill out and email his new firm documents for his employer. That always takes longer than you realize but we’re happy to be doing it. Hopefully after today things will settle down and we can relax a bit. I apologize for not making it to your place after you stopped in Friday but between responding to BOTB comments, making Christmas goodies, & helping DH I’ve felt overwhelmed. I’ll be back to my A game before long, though. Anywho, I’m delighted you enjoyed today’s Christmas mewsic. We watched Christmas Vacation Friday night. Every time I hear Ray Charles sing the tune featured I tear up. It’s truly special the way it moves me the way it does. Perry Como was played in my patents’ home & I remember those Christmas TV shows he hosted, too. That’s what we need on broadcast television these days. I missed Dolly’s Coat of Many Colors. I’d really like to see it, too. I loved this year’s program! Did you watch it? If not, you can stream it from NBC’s app. Have a good evening, my friend!

💕I love comments! Have a purrfect day & thanks for stopping by!💕
